General Announcements

Big news at Arapahoe! We won the Broncos Wives Food Drive! Yes, that means the Denver Broncos are coming to AHS. Be in the cafeteria on Tuesday, December 5th during first lunch to meet some Bronco players, cheerleaders, and Miles the mascot. It's Bronco Day on Tuesday, December 5th. Wear your blue and orange. Hope you can make it to the special recognition event. A special thank you to Mrs. Parmenters' choir classes for contributing to our success this year.

Students: In order to keep our school clean and safe after school, please remember that unless you are involved in a sport, school activity, the school band, or a rehearsal; please do not stay on campus past 3:00pm. Thank you.

Thank you to those who have brought toys for the AHS Toys for Tots Drive! We have 250 toys donated. We need another 750 toys to meet our goal. We have 7 school days to make it happen. No need to wait until the last minute. You can bring them in now!

The best Christmas trees in town will be sold at our own Arapahoe HS. Fresh Frasier Fir trees will be on sale Friday December 1st thru the 7th. The trees will benefit AHS boys swim team and the band. Our trees are priced below the competition and are a better quality. See a swim team or band member for more information.

AHS Toys for Tots Update: We are on the way to our goal of 1000 toys for Ashley Elementary and the Denver Indian Health and Family Services Center. Each day, students, staff, and parents are bringing toys to the Attendance Office and it is beginning to look like a toy store!! We currently have 300 toys in our office. We know there are toys out there – some are in classrooms, some you have already purchased, but they are in your car or at home, and some are still at the store!! We need your help. We will be collecting toys all next week through December, 8th. Think about shopping this weekend and put a smile on a child’s face. Bring your toys to the Attendance Office. Thank you Warriors! You can make it happen!

SPEECH CLUB ALERT! We are scheduled to have our club picture taken Monday afternoon around 3:20. We will have our regular speech club meeting in C15 and then move to E8. Please wear your speech T-shirts!

Your Warrior Marching Band will be one of the 10 featured marching bands in tomorrow night’s Parade of Lights in Downtown Denver. The parade starts at 8pm and will be televised live on Channel 9. Arapahoe is the 3rd band in the parade – we are unit #8. Good luck Warrior Marching Band!

Students going on the Environmental Science field trip tomorrow, please meet in Circle Dr. after 2nd period.

Key Club! Remember if you signed up to go to the Denver Rescue Mission, we meet at the Mineral light rail station on Saturday, December 2nd at 10am!! It will be a great time, can’t wait to see you there!!

Any band or swim team member that can help unload Christmas trees during their lunch hour please meet in the East parking lot on the north side. It would be greatly appreciated.

Athletics

The Arapahoe swimmers not entered in the meet with Highlands Ranch will have normal practice today. All swimmers not in the meet may practice today. This includes the JV Black team. Practice is scheduled from 5 - 7 PM. There will be no diving practice today. The meet line -up for the Highlands Ranch meet is posted on the pool window entrance. If you are sick or unable to swim let coach Richmond know as soon as possible.

Congratulations to all of the DECA competitors who competed at the District 11 Competition yesterday. Out of the 68 Arapahoe competitors, we had 39 state qualifiers and 16 alternates. These students will have the opportunity to represent Arapahoe at the State Competition in February. Great Job Warriors and Good Luck at State!

It is November 28th and the toy drive has started. We have about 150 toys in the Attendance Office. We need 850 more toys! We want to bring lots of smiles to the boys and girls of Ashley Elementary. If you want to help, please bring a new toy to the Attendance Office by December 8th. With your help we can make this happen!

Santa Claus will go down Littleton's Main Street starting at 6:30pm. The Arapahoe Brass Ensemble will be the featured entertainment for Santa, right outside Town Hall Arts Center. The festive music will continue down at Bradford Auto Body until 8pm - don't miss a fun filled evening at the Downtown Littleton Candlelight Walk this Friday night!!

Think about shopping for a boy or girl at Ashley Elementary. Our goal is 1000 NEW toys – priced $10-$15. Bring your toys to the Attendance Office after the Thanksgiving break. Let’s make it a great holiday for the kids!

Hawaii Pacific University will be holding an information session on Thursday, November 30th, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at Cherry Creek High School. Hey Arapahoe, it’s the Fraser Fir tree sale fundraiser. For a donation of $20, you will receive a credit of $20 toward the purchase of any tree on the lot at AHS between December 1st and December 5th. All proceeds directly support the activities of the School band and the Boys swim team. Pay any band or swim team member and you will receive a $20 credit and admission pass.

Two US Naval Academy cadets will be in the cafeteria today, Tuesday, during both lunches to visit with interested students. Please stop by and get your questions answered.

Seniors: Are you searching for scholarships? The Hispanic Annual Salute scholarship application is available in the Post Grad Center and also online. Begin your application today. Application deadline date is December 6, 2006. Scholarship award is $2000.00.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Varsity Cheers for their first place finish in the Northern Metro Rocky Mountain High Spirit Competition. The team performed an almost flawless routine this past Saturday to capture the title. Way to go girls! Their next competition will be the CHSAA State Spirit Championship on December 1st at the Denver Coliseum. Good luck to our Warrior Cheers and Toms at State!

Attention Students: You will be receiving your 2nd Semester Schedules tomorrow, November 17th during your third hour class. Schedule adjustments can be made by appointment only, with your counselor. The schedule adjustment period will run from Wednesday, December 6th through Thursday, December 14th. Changes will be made for the following reasons ONLY:
  • Academic misplacement

  • Over or under required hours

  • Changes in Elective courses on a space available basis

Come to the cafeteria tonight for an incredible evening of jazz! The concert starts at 7pm and features Jazz II, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs, and Jazz I. You’ll hear Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood,” Pat Matheney’s “But Beautiful,” and Louis Armstrong’s famous “West End Blues,” among others. It’s free, and complimentary dessert will be served throughout the evening.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent AHS in the 2007 Colorado All State Choir Festival: Aly Archer, Justin Dyer, Brett Evans, Jon Hallowell, Matt Gottlieb, Kara Priday. These students were selected from over 2000 that auditioned statewide.

The Biology Lab makeup for last week will be held today after school in room W205. Any student who missed lab last week, which includes those who went to Hawaii, will need to attend.

Drama Club meeting and audition workshop for the winter play, "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay", will be after school Friday Nov. 17th. Check callboard for details and other information. Those attending the Thespian conference there will be workshops for your IE's and auditions on Monday Nov. 20th at 2:30.

We will be by the pop machines at the South side of the cafeteria. Please support the art, poetry and writings of Arapahoe HS!!

General Announcements

Just a reminder: Second semester schedules will be passed out Friday, November 17th and if you have fines with the library or bookkeeping department you WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR SCHEDULE until they are resolved. It’s up to you to check the fine lists for your name. The Bookkeeping fine list is located on the bulletin board across from the Bookkeeping Office. And the Library has lists located in both the North & South hallways and in the library. The deadline to do this is tomorrow, November 15th.

Just let your server know you are supporting the band or stop by the band room to pick up a flyer. Romano’s is easy to get to- it’s right next to the theater in Highlands Ranch. Just a reminder: Second semester schedules will be passed out Friday, November 17th and if you have fines with the library or bookkeeping department you WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR SCHEDULE until they are resolved. It’s up to you to check the fine lists for your name. The Bookkeeping fine list is located on the bulletin board across from the Bookkeeping Office. And the Library has lists located in both the North & South hallways and in the library. The deadline to do this is Wednesday, November 15th.

Congratulations go to competitors at the Creek-East Turkey Speech and Debate Meet for this past weekend. Nathan Arnold and Sam Hustis were quarter-finalists in Public Forum Debate. Tony Justis and Ben Horblit were awarded excellent ribbons. This coming weekend the Arapahoe speech and debate team will be competing at the Denver Public Speech and Debate tournament. Good luck!

The girl’s swim team is having a mandatory parent’s meeting on Monday, November 13th @ 7pm in the forum. You may arrive at 6:30 if you need to attend the academic awards ceremony.

Kate Spring, a junior, plays on the Varsity Field Hockey Team for Mountain Vista High School. Kate has been selected as Honorable Mention for the All-State Field Hockey Team. Congratulations.

Reminder to boys varsity soccer players; uniform check in is today at 2:30 in room C-7.

Attention all Girls Swimmers and Divers: There is a parent meeting in the Forum tonight at 7 PM. This meeting is very important for new team members. Practice groups are posted on the pool entrance windows. The advanced training group begins at 2:30 PM and the Progressive training group starts at 5:00 PM. All pink clearance cards must be turned in before you can participate. If you do not have your pink card - you must attend practice but you cannot swim or dive.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, the Social Studies Department has invited veterans to come speak to Arapahoe students. These veterans are speaking all day long in the Forum, so if you would like to hear their stories or ask them any questions, please stop by the Forum during any of your unscheduled hours today. Thank you and remember…tomorrow, November 11 is Veteran’s Day.

Got Change! FBLA is collecting change at lunch to help a family out. Last year Adopt a Family helped a family by providing tooth brushes, snow boots, and coats. It also provided a small toy for each child. Bring your change and help a family! We will be collecting change at lunch this week.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, we would like to honor those Americans who sustained injuries or died in the defense of our nation. We would also like to honor the nurses, doctors and medics who devoted themselves to saving the lives of wounded soldiers, and making the deaths of others less painful. Please remember their contributions this Veterans’ Day. Remember that tomorrow we will have very special veterans visiting with our students in the Forum throughout the day. Please say hi and thank them for their participation in our country’s Armed Forces during difficult times.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, we would like to honor those people who made and make soldiers’ jobs possible. During WWII, nearly 3 million teenage boys and girls went to work for the US defense. They deferred their educations to make victory possible, working long hours each day in dangerous places such as shipyards and airplane fuselage plants. Please remember their contributions this Veterans’ Day. Today during both lunches, students from Ms. Parmenter’s classes will be performing patriotic music in the cafeteria. Please be there to enjoy the music and share your appreciation of Arapahoe’s talented singers.

Please join us for a great night of music in our theater starting at 7pm. It’s the First Annual Arapahoe Band Concerto Competition featuring 8 terrific finalists – Wes Leffingwell on piano, Matt Cullen on Bassoon, Jamie Stippich on Oboe, Roxy Steinberg on Flute, David Steinberg on tympani, Gabrielle Miller on clarinet, Colton Crandell on trumpet, and Sean Case on marimba. The top 3 soloists will receive cash prizes at the end of tonight’s competition. Three Colorado Symphony musicians will be judging the finalist performances. Tickets are just $2.00 – good luck to all of the finalists!!

Hey all seniors! This year seniors have a unique opportunity to get involved in a once in a lifetime senior class gift. This spring, a group of seniors will travel to the Wind River Reservation and celebrate the special bond we have with the Arapaho Tribe. If you want to be involved in the planning of this trip, please attend a meeting in room C1 tomorrow Nov. 8th at 6:45am or Wednesday Nov. 15th at 2:20pm.

This coming Saturday, November 11, is Veterans’ Day. In honor of the men and women who served and are currently serving in the US Armed Forces, Arapahoe will be celebrating for the next four days. Please stop by the military wall of honor in the cafeteria this week, and if you have time on Friday, come to the Forum and listen to a few veterans speak about their experiences. Tomorrow Ms. Parmenter and students from the Arapahoe Tour Choir will share their talent in the cafeteria during both lunches in observance of Veteran’s Week. Be sure to be there. Don’t forget to wear your Red, White, and/or Blue tomorrow! It’s Patriotic Color Day.

Cade Schacher (junior) competed at the 2006 U.S. Senior Nation Taekwondo Championships in Cleveland, OH on Friday November 3rd. His division had 17 competitors ranging from ages 18-32 yrs. Cade took the Bronze medal in the Black Belt Light weight division.

Congratulations go to the Speech and Debate Team for their success this weekend at the Chaparral Showdown Speech and Debate Tournament. Amanda Noel placed second in Dramatic Interpretation. Shamita Punjabi placed third in Humorous Interpretation. Receiving superior and excellent ribbons were Sarah Zellner, Ashleigh McCulloch, Alexa Ankele, Ashley Lambert, Ryan Foley, and Nathan Arnold. Good job!

Saturday touchdown were scored by Davis Gunter with 4, Phil Lorenzo and Cameron Durkin. A reminder to all freshmen players that equipment check-in will be after school tomorrow Tuesday November 7!

If you like humans and are ready to jam, come to Amnesty International's 2nd annual JAMNESTY. The concert will be tomorrow, November 3rd at 6pm at the Rockhouse. All proceeds go to planning our spring fundraiser which raises money for Project Education Sudan. Look for a table in the cafeteria for details and get ready to jam for a cause!

AHS Special Olympics Basketball is almost ready to start! Any seniors who are interested in participating should come to room S6 and see Mrs. Pepe. If you have previously signed up, please come in for an application. Practices start Nov. 20. The season runs through the first week of March. We practice at AHS from 7-8:30.

Hey FBLA are meeting time has been changed to today after school in S1 for adopt a family. We will be making posters and organizing the adopt-a-family drive.
