General Announcements

As promised we would like to announce the winners for both the student and staff Halloween candy jars.

The winner of the student candy jar is junior Joe Miller with a guess of 61. The actual number of candy in that jar was 61! Joe please come to the library and pickup your candy pumpkin when you have a free hour!

The winner of the staff candy jar located in Main Office is Business teacher Ms. Jeannie Krueger. Ms. Krueger guessed 56 and the correctly number was 56.

Congratulations to both winners!

Delegates attending the Cherry Creek Model United Nations Conference will be meeting after school today in the library to solidify the research in preparation for the conference. Please attend!

Attention: Drama Club people! Two important items….those attending the Colorado State Thespian Conference need to see Mr. Earley today and everyone else check callboard for audition information.

On Thursday, November 1st, the Second Annual Arapahoe Band Concerto Competition will take place in the Theater. Five outstanding musicians will perform their concertos beginning at 7pm. The finalists include: Junior Pianist, Wes Leffingwell, Senior Flute Player, Roxy Steinberg; Senior Bassoonist, Matt Cullen; Senior Flute Player, Abbe Haller; and Sophomore Horn Player, Vikky DeLaTorre. A panel of Colorado Symphony Musicians will be judging the competition. Cash Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers. Tickets are just $5.00, and are available from any of the finalists, or from Dr. C. in the Band Office.

Spanish Club will be meeting today after school at 2:30 in Room C-21.

Spanish club is sponsoring a field trip after school Wednesday, November 7th to El Museo de las Americas in Denver for a Day of the Dead exhibit. The cost is $7 per student and includes a tour of the museum, learning about the significance of Day of the Dead followed by a sugar skull decorating workshop. You do not have to be a Spanish student to attend. See Ms. DiSepio or Mrs. Johns in World Language for more information. Please sign up by Friday, November 2nd.

Attention mathematicians! The University of Northern Colorado Math Competition will be held this Friday after school in Room N-2. Please give your permission forms to your math teacher today.

Congratulations to all the DECA students who competed at the Wolverine Invitational yesterday. Arapahoe once again brought home the Team Productivity Award – which means that we had more kids place than any other school! And a big shout out for Brian Craig, Raychel Hirsh and Ashley Stoneking who all received 1st place!

Hey, do you like yummy treats? Then come help support the Muse by buying yummy treats at our Bake Sale today during both lunches by the gym or after school in the cafeteria.

Did you know that the Bonfils Blood Center requires 4,350 blood donors each week to meet the needs of our community? You could be one of those necessary donors by signing up for the National Honor Society Bonfils Blood Drive, which will take place on Thursday, November 8. You must be 18 years old, or 17 with a signed parent permission form, to donate. NHS volunteers will be signing up donors during both lunches beginning November 1. Watch for posters around school, or visit the National Honor Society web page on the AHS web site for more information. Make a difference by literally giving of yourself.

Be sure to pick up the latest issue of the Arapahoe Herald, Arapahoe's student newspaper, in the news stands located at either end of the cafeteria, in most classrooms, the library or the main office.

Athletics

The football team will play Arvada West Friday night, November 2nd at 7:30 pm in the first round of state playoffs. The game will take place in Golden at the NAAC Stadium. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students and Senior Citizens. GO WARRIORS!

Winter Sports Registration will take place Monday thru Wednesday, November 5th - 7th in Room S3 at 2:30 pm each day. Please bring your completed registration packets (including driving forms) to one of these sessions. Wrestling will take place on Monday, Boys and Girls Basketball on Tuesday, and Girls Swimming and Diving on Wednesday. You cannot tryout for a winter sport without turning this packet in next week. Please stop by the Athletic Office if you have any questions.

For anyone interested in competing in track and field this spring there will be a meeting on Thursday November 1st in room 202 immediately after school. We will be discussing the upcoming season as well as winter workouts and indoor track meets, for those athletes that are not competing in a winter sport. If you are interested but unable to attend the meeting please see Coach Lienemann in the math office. Go Warriors.

Student Initiated Groups-

There will be a meeting of the Gay-Straight Alliance after school Thursday in room W-101. There will be snacks, a great time with friends, and a supportive, hate-free environment.

Male high school students were less likely than female students to wear seat belts; 12.5% of male students and 7.8% of females students don't wear their seat belts

General Announcements

Tomorrow is Halloween. Costumes will be allowed with the following restrictions: no face masks or fake weapons and all costumes must conform to the school dress code as written in the Student Code of Conduct. If you choose to wear a costume, please design it with creativity and good taste. Have fun and Happy Halloween.

On Wednesday, October 31, student council will be holding a Halloween costume contest in the cafeteria during both lunches. You will be judged on scariest, most creative, and funniest. So come dressed up and ready to have some fun. Lunch prizes will be awarded and candy given to those that dress up. Please do not wear masks.

Seniors: Graduation announcement packets can be picked up in the main office or the guidance office. Orders will be taken November 1 and November 2 in the cafeteria during lunches.

In addition to having all the materials and studying tools you need to get ready for all of your “beastly” projects, we are sponsoring a holiday contest for all students! Come check out the jar of goodies located at the Circulation counter and make your best guess. The prize for the closest guess is the jar of goodies of course! The lucky winner will be announced on Wednesday, October 31st.

Congratulations to the Varsity Warrior Cheerleaders! They traveled to Pueblo on Saturday to compete in the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Southern Regional competition. They captured the first place title in the large varsity division, and earned a bid to the National competition in Orlando, Florida in February. Way to go AHS Cheers! Stay tuned for upcoming competitions for both the JV and Varsity Cheers!

Seniors: Graduation announcement packets can be picked up in the main office or the guidance office. Orders will be taken November 1 and November 2 in the cafeteria during lunches.

Come join FBLA today for a scavenger hunt around the school. Meet in room S1 at 2:20 today. Not a member yet, still come join us for the hunt!

National Honor Society members, please remember our special NHS meeting today, today at 2:20 p.m. in the Forum. We will be discussing volunteer opportunities for our upcoming Bonfils blood drive. If you cannot attend the meeting but would still like to help with the blood drive, please talk to on of the NHS officers, or to Mr. Sale or Ms. Gaffney in the English office.

The SPEECH AND DEBATE team finished their novice season with a bang! Congratulations to all competitors who won excellent and superior ribbons (and pumpkins!) at the Great Pumpkin NFL speech tournament on Saturday.

The cast and crew of “Our Town” would like to thank you for your support…You were great audiences and we had a great time performing for you.

Athletics

Congratulations to the Freshmen Football team for their exciting 24-21 victory over Regis on Saturday. The victory earned the team the Continental League Championship with an 8 and 1 record. Great Job Freshmen! The next game is this Saturday at Overland High School at 9:00 AM.

Congratulations to the Varsity Cross Country team for their outstanding performance at the State meet on Saturday in Colorado Springs. Boys placed 2nd in the state!!! Top 7 runners were Kyle Lyons, Chris Holt, Doug Winter, Tyler Lira, Jackson Brainerd, Matt Ryan, and Jason Kearns. This is the first time since 1970 that the boys have finished as a state runner up. Girls also gave a heartfelt performance, coming in 6th place with Kayla Balciar, Christa Schaller, Emily Kirchhofer, Emily Lewis, Sarah Ray, Sarah Markisohn, and Katie Roome. A big thanks to Coach Berthold for the strong finish in his first year as head coach and we look forward to seeing you underclassmen next year.

Any cross country runners who still need to turn in uniforms may do so tomorrow or Wednesday after school.

Violations cost a teen driver 2 points on their driving record for EACH unbuckled person in the car. A teen loses their license at 6 points. That means if 3 people are unbuckled, the license is gone.

Any student who is interested in participating should come to room S-6 and see Mrs. Pepe for an application. Practices start at the end of November and the season runs through the first week of March. We practice once or twice a week at AHS in the evening.

Next Thursday, November 1, you will be quizzed on these facts for a prize, so pay attention. All drivers under 18 and their passengers must wear seat belts. It's the law. Remember to buckle up.

Do you like to debate? Do you like international politics? Would you like to represent a foreign country trying to reach solutions on global issues? Do you like to research? Then become a delegate for the Model United Nations! We are looking for delegates to represent Arapahoe High School at competitions around the state. Competitions are once a month and held at different schools. This Thursday, October 25 th at 2:30 in room C24, the AHS MUN Club will be holding an informational meeting for all those interested. We are looking for delegations for the Boulder Conference in December which deals with Humanitarian Aid in Africa. If this topic interests you then come check us out! Our first competition is Saturday, November 10 th at Cherry Creek High School. We will be representing the Russian Federation dealing with jurisdiction in the Arctic and Global Warming. Attention Personal Survival students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd hour classes. Please note: If you have not signed up for "Alive at 25", the website “locks up” 48hrs prior to the beginning of a class. Competitions are once a month and held at different schools. This Thursday, October 25 th at 2:30 in room C24, the AHS MUN Club will be holding an informational meeting for all those interested. We are looking for delegations for the Boulder Conference in December which deals with Humanitarian Aid in Africa. If this topic interests you then come check us out! Our first competition is Saturday, November 10 th at Cherry Creek High School. We will be representing the Russian Federation dealing with jurisdiction in the Arctic and Global Warming. Congratulations to all members of the Warrior Marching Band for being named the 2007 State Champion Runner-up 2nd Place 5A Marching Band at Saturday's State Championships!! This is the 2nd time Arapahoe has reached this high placement in the past 3 years!!! The Warrior Marching Band has placed no lower than 3rd, at state, since 2004!!!! Arapahoe scored 84 points on Saturday - just 2 points out of 1st place. The band would like to thank all their supportive fans who cheered them on throughout this competitive season!! You'll be able to see the Warrior Band's Championship Show at this Friday's Football Game. Congratulations Warrior Marching Band!!!!!

Congratulations to the freshmen football team for another impressive victory on Saturday over Rangeview 28-0. This was another great “TEAM” effort that pushed the teams record to 7 and 1 and sets up a league championship game this coming Saturday against the currently undefeated Regis Raiders. Please plan to come out on Saturday and support your team!!! Game time is 9:00 AM.

Congratulations to the sophomore girls’ volleyball team for their impressive win against Gateway. The team finished the season with a 12 and 7 record and won 7 of their last 9 matches. Great season ladies.

Good luck to all members of the Warrior Marching Band at tomorrow’s Pikes Peak March of Champions. Arapahoe is the defending 5A Champion 1st Place Band – Good luck Warrior Band! On Saturday, the Warrior Marching Band will be competing at the State Marching Band Championships. This will take place at Hughes Field, on the CSU Campus, in Ft. Collins. Arapahoe is going in as the second seed out of all Colorado 5A bands! The Warrior Band’s preliminary performance will be at 3:15pm, with their finals performance sometime between 8:45 and 9:30pm. You’re all invited to join the band in Ft. Collins and cheer them on at state! Good luck Warrior Marching Band!!

General Announcements

Thanks for your support Warriors! Between the “Think Pink” volleyball game and Miracle Minute lunch fundraising, we raised $1,208.66 in one day to be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Congratulations to the Warrior Marching Band for being named the Grand Champion 1st Place Band out of 28 bands at Saturday's Douglas County Marching Invitational! Arapahoe scored a season high 85.65 points!!! There was a 3 point spread between the Warrior Band and the 2nd place unit. Arapahoe received a Box 5 Superior score of 90.5 points from one of the Music General Effect Judges!! Our band won 2 caption awards - Best Music and Best Effect!!! This is the first time in school history that the Warrior Band has won 3 competitions at the start of State Championship Week!! Way to go Warrior Marching Band!!!!!

Congratulations to the Arapahoe Herald staff for their successes at the Colorado High School Press Association’s Journalism Conference at CSU last Thursday. Senior Kelley Robinson took second place for best news story, 3rd place for best feature personality story and third for best photo/graphic illustration in the state of Colorado! Junior Kelsey Schuler took third place for best personality feature in the state of Colorado. Both Kelley Robinson and Kelsey Schuler took third place for best Maestro page design in the state of Colorado! Congratulations Arapahoe Herald Staff!”

The Boy’s Varsity Tennis team took 6th place at the State Tennis Tournament over the weekend. Dan Johnson and Eric Law took 3rd place at number 1 doubles and Jeff Maxey and Wade Schutte took 4th place at the number 2 doubles position. This is the best showing for the tennis team in 10 years! Congratulations to all of the tennis team members for a great season.
