Attention National Honor Society members – we are still looking for volunteers for the LPS Foundation Silent Auction on March 14. Please contact Mr. Sale or Ms. Gaffney, by email or in person in the English office, if you are interested. Check the NHS web page for details.

AHS students did very well on the UNC Math Competition. Here are the results:
1800+ Colorado students took the First Round in November. 31 Arapahoe students participated in the First Round.
188 Colorado students qualified for the Final Round in February on the Greeley Campus. 15 Arapahoe students were invited to the Final Round. (Not all could attend).
25 Winners will be honored in April at a fancy banquet in Greeley.

Athletics
The boys basketball team takes on Mullen tonight in the Second Round of State playoffs at 7:00 pm here at Arapahoe. Admission prices will be $4 for students and Senior Citizens and $5 for adults. No student passes will be accepted at this game.

The girls basketball team advanced to the Second Round of State playoffs by defeating Pomona last night in an exciting win here at Arapahoe. They will play Denver East tomorrow night at Denver East High School with a tipoff time of 7:00 pm

Attention all you spirited Warriors out there! Next Tuesday, March 4th, there will be a mandatory informational student-athlete meeting for anyone interested in trying out for one of our Cheerleading teams for the 2008-2009 school year. It will be held in the main gym at 6:00 p.m. You and a parent must attend if you are interested in cheering next year.

The Girl’s Varsity tennis team defeated Rock Canyon 5-2 in the first match of the season. Come on out next Tuesday to support your Warriors as they have their first home match against ThunderRidge. Varsity plays at AHS, JV plays at Powell.

Tonight at 7pm is the Winter Jazz Concert in the cafeteria. We’ll feature great jazz classics as performed by our very talented musicians in Jazz II, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs, and Jazz I. This is a free concert with complimentary dessert and beverages, so don’t miss it!!

Amnesty international is challenging us to see how many bags of rice we can contribute in one hour, stop in and compete; this event is open to anyone interested.

Congratulations to all members of the Winter Guard for scoring 65 points at their first competition of the year! This took place on Saturday, at Rampart HS in Colorado Springs. Way to go ladies!!

Athletics

The Arapahoe girls swimming and diving team placed 6th at the State Championship meet on Friday. Paige Newell, Megan Peron Morgan Turley and Lauren Moehlenpah placed 8th in the 200 Medley Relay. The 200 Free relay of Sam Abrams, Lauren Moehlenpah, Emily Thompson and Devon Smith placed 6th while the 400 relay team of Paige Newell, Devon Smith, Emily Thompson and Morgan Turley finished in 8th place. Divers Dani Howe and Beth Ambrozic placed 10th and 14th while sophomore Devon Smith was 8th in the 200 Free. Paige Newell was 3rd in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 500 freestyle. Paige also broke a 25 year old team record in the 500 free by six seconds. Finally, Andrea Liley placed 16th in the 500 free while Megan Perron was 13th in the 100 breast stroke

19 members of the Arapahoe track and field team traveled this past weekend to Pocatello, Idaho to compete in one of the premier high school indoor meets in the country. The sprint medley relay team of Josh Sabey, Reger Craigo, Nick Forrest, and Kyle Lyons were crowned champions of that event. The time that they ran was not only good enough to win but it currently ranks them 3rd in the nation. Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed at the meet. Track Practice will officially start today at @ 2:45 on the track

Congratulations to the Varsity Cheers for an outstanding finish at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship this past weekend in Orlando, Florida! The girls competed in the Large Varsity division against 48 other teams from all over the country. With a near perfect performance in the semi-finals, the Warriors advanced to finals with 25 other teams. They again had an outstanding performance in finals and finished 11th in the nation! Today is the last day to buy Valentine’s cookies and chocolate hearts! They are $2 each and will be delivered in class on Valentine’s Day. You can find these across from the Deca Store. Thank you and don’t forget to buy!

Are you feeling smart or lucky? Join us during 1st lunch in the cafeteria on Tuesday and Wednesday for Business Trivia. The business department is celebrating Career and Technical Education Week and we have some great free prizes to giveaway. Come have some fun and walk away a winner!

Hey students! Be sure to pick up the latest issue of the Arapahoe Herald, Arapahoe’s award-winning student newspaper. New issues can be picked up from stands in the cafeteria. Athletics

Congratulations to the Varsity Cheers for an outstanding finish at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship this past weekend in Orlando, Florida! The girls competed in the Large Varsity division against 48 other teams from all over the country. With a near perfect performance in the semi-finals, the Warriors advanced to finals with 25 other teams. They again had an outstanding performance in finals and finished 11th in the nation! You can view the two routines at Varsity.com. Come support the Cheers as they finish out their season cheering on our girls and boys basketball teams and wrestling team! Way to go Cheers!

The boys varsity basketball team needs your support tonight when they play Highlands Ranch AT Highlands Ranch. Varsity plays at 7pm. Come cheer for your team.

Attention all girls interested in playing tennis this spring: The registration for girls’ tennis is Thursday, February 14 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm in room S-4. Registration packets can be picked up in advance from the Athletic Office. All girls intending to tryout need to have their “pink” card with them on the first day of tryouts which is Tuesday, Feb. 19.

General Announcements

This announcement is for all 17 and 18 year old young men. If you have not registered with the Selective Service, this is the time to do it. Federal law requires all men living in the US to register within a month of their 18th birthday. Registering keeps you eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs and driver’s license renewal in most states. You can get a Selective Service registration card at your local post office or register online at www.sss.gov. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Snyder in the Guidance Office. Be sure to register for Selective Service as soon as you can. Your future depends on it.

Attention mathematicians! The American Mathematics Competition is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, at 6:45 a.m. in the Forum. Please arrive on time!

Athletics

Congratulations to the freshmen girl’s basketball team for their record breaking season. They are Continental League Champions with an over all record of 19 wins and 0 losses. They also won their end of season tournament beating Heritage in the final round. Way to go Warriors!

The Arapahoe girls swimming and diving team won the Continental League Championship meet on Saturday for the 11th straight year. Leading the way for the Warriors were the following new state qualifiers: Morgan Turley, Emily Thompson, Lauren Moehlenpah, Sam Abrams, Sabrina Dermody, Brittany Knigge and Jennifer Cozzette. Sophomore Beth Ambrozic broke the team record for 11 dives Beth also was crowned the league champion in diving along with senior Elizabeth Miller in the 500 free.

Just a reminder to all spring sports athletes - registration will take place beginning tomorrow after school!!!
Boys and girls track will register at 2:30 pm in Room S4. Required paperwork can be picked up in the Athletic Office.

You’re all invited to the Annual LPS Showcase at the Powell Middle School Cafetorium tonight. All the middle and high school jazz bands will be performing from 5:30 until 8:10pm. It’s free! Our Jazz II Band will perform at 5:30pm, and our top jazz band, Jazz I, will perform at 7:35pm. Come and enjoy some great jazz tonight at Powell!

This Thursday, Feb. 7th the library will be closed until 5th hour. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Feeling sleepy? Why don’t you sleep in tomorrow!! This is a reminder that tomorrow – February 6th is a PLC Day. Classes will begin at 9:21!! So enjoy those extra hours of sleep.

Heart health trivia for today: Between birth and old age, you will walk about 70,000 miles. Walking is one of the best activities you can do to keep your heart-lung complex in good working condition. Park your car near the tennis courts tomorrow and add a few steps to your day.

General Announcements

Attention all Student Council students who are attending the Tri School Leadership Retreat today! Remember to meet by the DECA store by 11:15am TODAY.

Does your life lack culture, humor, and entertainment? Are you on a tight budget? Then come see the winter production of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” tonight and Saturday, at 7pm. Tickets are sold at lunch for only 5 dollars.

PLAN test results are in! If you took the PLAN, you can pick up your test results in the Guidance Office.

February is Heart Health Month. Cardiovascular Disease still remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Yet there are so many things we can do to prevent this from happening to us. The PE Department challenges everyone at AHS to do something more this month to care for your heart. Heart Health trivia: It takes only about 23 seconds for blood to circulate throughout your entire body.

Spanish Club will be going to the Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant next Tuesday night, February 5th for a fun night of salsa dancing! Join us in experiencing culture with rhythms and great food, and dance the night away! See Ms. DiSepio to sign up ~ all are welcome.

Congratulations to our talented mathematicians. Ryan Beckett earned a perfect score on the first round of the University of Northern Colorado Math Competition! He and 14 other AHS students are invited to participate in the Final Round on February 2nd on the Greeley Campus. Please congratulate our winning participants: Matthew Arnold, Lane Childers, Matt Cullen, Sean Egan, Kevin Fiorini, Alexis Fons, Natalie Jones, Lara McDougald, Mary Cate McPherson, Tom Roberts, Matt Schmidt, Michelle Shebowich, Kyle Stachowiak and Spencer Zepelin.
