General Announcements

CSAP Testing is fast approaching. Room Assignment lists are posted in the Cafeteria by the Security Office. Please make sure your name is on the list. If not, please stop by to see Mrs. Scoglio in the Attendance Office

Are you interested in renewing a relationship with the Arapaho Indians in Wyoming? We’ll be taking a trip to the Wind River Reservation on Thursday, April 14th and Friday, April 15th. If interested, pick up an application in the Main Office at the front desk. It is due Friday, March 11th.

Congratulations to the Speech and Debate team for their success over this weekend. Bronson Dowd and Cassie Davis qualified to represent Arapahoe at State in Public Forum after going undefeated through the tournament. Bronson Dowd also competed and qualified in Extemporaneous Speaking. Nice Job, Warriors.

On Wednesday, March 2, Mimi Leonard the Littleton Public Schools Career and Technical Coordinator will be presenting in the Forum during both lunches what students will need to do to enroll in the Post Secondary Education Options (PSEO) for dual credit in college and high school coursework or the Area Career and Technical Schools (ACTS) vocational education programs. Students may bring their lunches and listen to Ms. Leonard’s presentations to gather information on both programs.

Hello Warriors, Prom is just around the corner and that means it is time for this year’s prom nominations! ALL upperclassmen come to the cafeteria and vote for your 2011 prom royalty this Tuesday and Wednesday!!

Athletics

Attention all you Warriors interested in trying out for cheerleading for the 2011-2012 school year, tryouts are just around the corner. You and a parent must attend the informational meeting on Tuesday, March 8th, in the AHS Theater at 6:00 p.m. Please see Mrs. Pramenko if you have any questions!

Attention all track and field athletes. We will meet in room W-201 for a brief meeting before practice today. Please come dressed out so you are ready for practice.

The Girls' swim team banquet will be held Tuesday, March 1 at 6:15 in the cafeteria. To save both time and money this will be a dessert only banquet. There is no cost to attend. See all you swimmers there!

If you submitted a poem, story, essay or artwork to the Muse, you can now find out if your work will be published in this year’s edition of Arapahoe’s only magazine dedicated to celebrating our creative students. Poets, artists, and prose writers who will be in the 2011 edition are posted in the Muse glass case near the Language Arts department. The judging was especially difficult this year, as we received so much good work. If your work was not accepted, please try again next year. We look forward to seeing all accepted artists at the Muse Showcase, which will be Thursday March 31st.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball Team for earning the 4th seed in their bracket of the State Tournament. That seeding allowed the Lady Warriors a bye in the 1st round and they will play here at AHS on Friday night at 7:00 PM against the Pine Creek Eagles. Come out and help your Lady Warriors get to the “Sweet 16” round by beating Pine Creek. Ticket prices will be $6 for adults and $5 for all students grades K-12. No SBA passes will be accepted at this game. Go Warriors!

Come support Boys Basketball on Saturday afternoon right here at Arapahoe as the Varsity team hosts Grand Junction at 2:00 PM in the 2nd Round of the state playoffs. Student passes are not valid for state tournament games, so keep in mind that admission for students is $5. There will be a pre-game pep rally with FREE pizza and drinks at 12:30, (while supplies last) so join in at the auxiliary gym as we get ready to treat Grand Junction to a black out -- Arapahoe style! See Austin Goerke if you are interested in a black out T-shirt. Go Warriors!

General Announcements
Hey guys…don’t let your 18th birthday go by without registering with Selective Service. There’s really nothing to it, and you’ve got to do it. After all, it’s the law and it only takes 5 minutes. Besides, you must register to be eligible for federal student loans, job training benefits, most federal employment, and enrollment in state colleges and universities. So, if you’re a guy about to turn 18, you can register at the Post Office or go online at www.sss.gov. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Snyder in the Guidance Office.

Attention all DECA members attending the state competition! There will be a mandatory meeting today at 2:20 in the Forum. Please see Mrs. Grantham ASAP if you cannot attend as important information regarding the trip will be discussed in the meeting.

Wear your TSA State T-shirt. We will have a celebration cake, pass out our state certificates/awards, and discuss Nationals. Everyone should plan on attending! Meeting should be over by 3:00 pm

The jazz studies department presents a Winter Jazz Concert, tonight at 7pm in the theater. The concert features our talented jazz students, and includes Jazz l, Jazz II, and a student combo. There is no fee, so come and enjoy this entertaining evening of toe tapping music.

Warriors come out and support the AHS Special Olympic basketball team as they go up against the Englewood High School team tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Arapahoe High School’s main gym. We will also be recognizing our senior players and partners during half time.

Congratulations to Sabrina Dermody who won The 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community President’s Volunteer Service Award. She was selected for her hours of dedication to volunteerism in her community. Congratulations for being a role model for other young people in the country

Auditions for the 2011-2012 Tom Toms will be held on March 15th through March 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gym. A mandatory parent/student meeting will be held on March 7th at 6:00 p.m. in the forum. All interested girls should attend.

General Announcements

This announcement is for all 17 and 18 year old young men. If you have not registered with the Selective Service, this is the time to do it. Federal law requires all men living in the US to register within a month of their 18th birthday. Registering keeps you eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs and driver’s license renewal in most states. You can get a Selective Service registration card at your local post office or register online at www.sss.gov. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Snyder in the Guidance Office. Be sure to register for Selective Service as soon as you can. Your future depends on it.

General Announcements
The National Honor Society children's book drive is nearing its completion. We've received lots of very kind donations of books for children aged 3-5, but the kids at the Head Start Program could definitely use a lot more of your generosity! So if you haven't done it yet, please use this long weekend to take a look through your stash of old pre-school books, and bring in any gently used books that you can spare. Remember that the donation box is located right off of the north hallway, next to the language arts office. Thanks!

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team for their convincing 54-42 win last night against Overland.
Come support the team tomorrow night here at home as they go up against Eaglecrest. JV plays at 5:30 and Varsity at 7pm.

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team for their convincing 68-35 win last night against Overland. The win moves the Team league record to 10 and 3. The Teams last league game will be at Eaglecrest tomorrow with the JV starting at 5:30 and the Varsity at 7:00. Come out and Support Lady Warriors Hoops.

Warriors come out and support the AHS Special Olympic basketball team as they go up against the Littleton High School team tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Arapahoe High School’s main gym.

Congratulations to the Winter Guard on a wonderful performance at the Arapahoe Invitational held this past Saturday night. After hosting 20 talented teams from throughout Colorado all day and night, our team went out and earned the highest score of the competition.

Congratulations to Tuba Player Tim Kloewer on being selected to perform with the 2011 Carnegie Hall Honor Orchestra. Tim will represent Arapahoe High School this weekend in New York.

Congratulations to all Arapahoe TSA members who competed against approximately 700 other students from around the state in this weekend’s State TSA conference. You were all fantastic! Congrats to the following students who placed top 3 in their events: Troy Witonsky -1st Place in Career Comparisons, George Darling – 1st Place in CO2 Dragster Design, Emily Haskins – 1st place in Essays on Technology, Nash Jekot &Emily Haskins – 2nd place in Debating Technological Issues, George Darling, Ethan Bilek, & Nicholas Sabo – 2nd place in Technology Bowl, and Michelle Jewett & Nicole Jewett – 3rd place in Biotechnology Design. Way to go!! Special thanks go out to Paul Fritter & Sean Fritter for running for state officer positions, AHS is proud of both of you! Special congratulations to Paul Fritter for being elected as the 2011-2012 State TSA Sergeant at Arms!

Congratulations to the Warrior Wrestling Team. The Warriors finished fourth overall and qualified four wrestlers to the state meet at the Pepsi Center beginning Thursday. Qualifying for the Warriors are Seth Hardcastle, Jeff Rice, J.J. Rohde, and Joe Ziccardi. Good Luck!

Come support Boys Basketball tonight as the JV and Varsity teams play at Cherry Creek. The JV game begins at 5:30 pm, with the Varsity team scheduled to tip off at 7:00. Go Warriors

"It has been a winning week for Lady Warriors Basketball, nice job Ladies! Don't miss Friday's home game against Cherry Creek. It is Senior night and fans are bound to be treated to some very exciting basketball! JV has a score to settle, the game begins at 5:30 so come cheer them on to victory. Varsity takes the court at 7:00. They have a record to defend and will battle to defeat Cherry Creek for a second time, so be sure to come and show your Lady Warriors your support!"

Congratulations to the girl's sophomore basketball team. The got a great win in the second round of their Centennial League playoffs against Mullen 43 to 36. Now, they are set to play against Grandview on Saturday at 1:30. Great Job ladies and good luck this weekend.

The Colorado All-State Orchestra Concert is this Saturday at CSU. The concert begins at 4:00pm. Our very own Andrew Ryan and Melissa Merkel are performing with this prestigious ensemble.

General Announcements

Tonight is the night for cool jazz!! Euclid Middle School is hosting the LPS District Jazz Showcase, featuring all of the jazz bands in our school district. Admission is free, and the performances will run from 5:30pm until 9:00pm. Our Arapahoe Jazz Ensembles will be performing at 6:50pm and 8:10pm. Concessions will be available for purchase.

The Colorado All-State Orchestra Concert is this Saturday at CSU. The concert begins at 4:00pm. Our very own Andrew Ryan and Melissa Merkel are performing with this prestigious ensemble.

Congratulations to the girls' sophomore basketball team. They won their first round game in the Centennial League Tournament against Overland 61 to 27. Their next game will be against Mullen on Thursday at 7 pm.

Congratulations to the Freshmen Girls Basketball team for their 1st round win in the Centennial league “Freshmen” tournament last night over Eaglecrest 51-30. The Freshmen Lady Warriors will face Golden in the Semi-finals on Thursday night at Mullen. Nice job Ladies!

Spring Sports Registration will take place next week! Boys and Girls Track on Tuesday, February 15th; Baseball & Boys Swim/Dive on Wednesday, February 16th; Girls Tennis, Soccer & Golf on Thursday, February 17th. All registration will take place in the Cafeteria during lunches. Make sure to stop by the Athletic Office and pick up your registration paperwork this week!

Attention all FBLA members that are attending districts, we will have a mandatory meeting today after school in room E9 to discuss all of the district information including dress code. See you there!

Auditions for the spring musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying will be held this Wednesday and Thursday after school in the auditorium. The dance auditions will held on Friday in the auditorium. For more information see Mr. Ahern, Ms. Parmenter, or Ms. TenEyck.

The win moves the Lady Warriors league mark to 9 and 1 and maintains their 1st place position in the Centennial League. Hey NHS members, listen up… Our National Honor Society meeting from last week has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 16,after school. We have some important information to share with you about upcoming activities, so please plan to be in the forum by 2:25 on Wednesday!

The win moves the Lady Warriors into soul possession of 1st place in the Centennial League. Our JV Ladies won 59-56. Great Job Ladies! The Varsity and JV are in action again tonight here At Arapahoe against Smoky Hill, JV at 5:30 and Varsity at 7:00. Come out and support your Lady Warrior Hoopsters.

Attention All Freshmen and Sophomore Girls Basketball players: Your practice today will be from 2:45-4:45 in the Main Gym.

The boys sophomore basketball team will practice today after school in the Auxiliary Gym beginning at 2:30.

The Arapahoe Swimming and Diving team placed 2nd in the Centennial League Championship meet on Saturday. The following individual swimmers qualified for the state meet: Rachel Getz, Jordan Shomaker, Ellen Johnston, Morgan Dickie, Georgia Burns, Hillary Redmond and Alyssa Countway.
All “A” League participants will need to attend a very important follow-up meeting afterschool.

There will be a boys lacrosse pre-tryout meeting tonight in the AHS cafeteria at 7:00 p.m. Please plan on attending this meeting with a parent if you want to play boys lacrosse.

Due to the inclement weather we experienced on Wednesday, February 2nd, Arapahoe High School has re-scheduled our 2011 National Signing Day Ceremony. The event will now take place this afternoon at 3:00 pm in the school Forum. We hope you will be able to attend this special event!

It’s time to brush up your Shakespeare! Tickets for A Midsummer Night’s Dream are on sale during lunches. Tickets are $5.00, and the show continues tonight and tomorrow night. All tickets are reserved seating. Come see this unforgettable production!

Integrated Science students: If you are a Tuesday lab student, there is no need to come to make up lab. However, there will be a regular make up lab on Monday February 7, after school. This will be for Lab 4-Fruitvale.

Tomorrow morning the diving preliminaries start at 8:30AM. The finals for the Centennial A League Championship meet start at 3:00PM tomorrow afternoon. The Arapahoe Debate team had wonderful success this weekend at the National Qualifiers for Student Congress. Senior Cassie Davis was honored as presiding officer of her house and Junior, Kati Ansay, was voted best speaker in Senate and is going to be representing Colorado at Nationals, this summer, in Dallas, Texas.
