General Announcements

Attention all FCCLA Members: Please turn in all money from the sale of chocolate roses to Mrs. Rains by tomorrow March 1st! All roses must be sold and all money must be turned it to Mrs. Rains. See Mrs. Rains if you have questions. Please also plan to attend a quick meeting on Monday March 5th right after school to finalize plans for taking dinner and gifts to the homeless shelter on the 9th! See you there FCCLA!

Hey all NHS members, we will have a brief meeting today after school in the forum. We will discuss service opportunities and a read across America program.

Attention all seniors involved with the senior class gift. We will have a brief meeting today after school in room C1. We will be discussing t-shirt designs and possible gift ideas for the reservation.

Attention Warriors in Student Council: Don't forget to come to the poster-making party for Wish Week TODAY after school in the cafeteria! If you have sixth-hour off, you can help then too. There will be candy, and we need all the help we can get because Wish Week is coming up. Thanks Warriors, and I'll see you in the cafeteria later today.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DECA MEMBERS WHO COMPETED AT STATE. WE HAD 3 STUDENTS WHO WERE NAMED AS TOP PERFORMERS AND 8 MORE QUALIFIED FOR FINALS! ALSO, BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO NATALIE BROVSKY, KATIE MAXEY, AND MAGGIE TAKACS WHO QUALIFIED FOR THE NATIONAL COMPETITION IN ORLANDA, FLORIDA!!

Athletics

The boys and girls basketball teams have both advanced to the “Sweet Sixteen” round in state playoffs! The girls will play Dakota Ridge today at The Budweiser Event Center in Loveland. Game time is 2:30 pm. The boys will take on Monarch tomorrow, March 1st, also playing at The Budweiser Event Center in Loveland. Tip off will be at 4:10 pm. Admission prices will be $8 for adults and $6 for all K-12 students and Senior Citizens. Good luck Warriors!

Hey warriors! The Animals Deserve Rights Club is going to the Colorado Humane Society this Friday! It's a great way to earn service hours so talk to Ms. Durow or come to our next meeting today in W104 for more details! Anyone is welcome to join us!

Attention NHS members. We need five volunteers for Thursday’s parent teacher conferences. Volunteers will meet in C15 on Thursday at 3 and will be here until 8 pm. Please contact Ms. Gaffney in the Language Arts Department ASAP if you are interested in earning 6 hours of service credit for this experience.

Congratulations to our very talented mathematicians! Spencer Zepelin won 3rd place of all sophomores in the state of Colorado in the Final Round of the University of Northern Colorado Math Competition! This is quite an honor! Please also recognize Sean Egan and Tom Roberts for earning an Honorable Mention. Great job Arapahoe!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Arapahoe Speech Team for their success at the State Qualifying tournament this weekend. Earning slots at the State Speech and Debate tournament in March were Nathan Arnold, Ryan Foley, Justin Lambert, and Amanda Noel. Alternates include Shamita Punjabi, Will Hea, Isaac Adams, and Aaron Hill.

Congratulations to all members of the Winter Percussion Ensemble for placing 1st at Saturday's Sheridan Competition! Arapahoe was the top scoring Percussion Ensemble out of all classifications for the day!! Way to go guys!!!

Any volleyball player interested in playing volleyball next fall needs to attend a brief meeting tomorrow morning at 7AM in room W101! We will discuss spring and summer volleyball as well as sign up for leagues and tournaments. If you can’t make it, see Coach Syers ASAP.

A quick reminder from the Post Grad Center: Check the white board outside the Guidance and Post Grad Centers regularly for a list of colleges visiting Arapahoe. Check the visit schedule on Naviance, sign up and get a pass in the Guidance Center to visit with college representatives. Kansas State is visiting today; CSU Pueblo and Metro are visiting on Friday.

Those students taking the SAT Test Prep Class tomorrow need to enter the building through the Northwest Door near the Science Wing. The class will be in W201 and W202.

GOOD LUCK TO THE 41 DECA STUDENTS WHO ARE COMPETING AT THE STATE COMPETITION IN COLORADO SPRINGS SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY!

ATTENTION STATE DECA STUDENTS!! Our meeting has moved! We will now be meeting today right after school in room S1. You must come to get some last minute details and your state shirt!! If you can’t make the meeting please see Grantham as soon as possible!

Tonight is the Winter Jazz Concert in the cafeteria starting at 7pm. It’s free and will feature Jazz II, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs, and Jazz I. Dessert and beverages will be served throughout the concert. Join us for an entertaining, fun evening of great jazz!

Congratulations to Tom Roberts and Spencer Zepelin! They earned a very high score on the A Version of the American Mathematics Competition and have advanced to the next round, the American Invitational Math Exam, scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th.

Athletics

The Arapahoe Girls Swimming and Diving team placed 6th at the State Meet Saturday. Leading the way for the Warriors were top 8 finishers Carolyn Pasque in the 100 and 200 Freestyle, Kaeli Kluesner and Paige Newell in the 200 IM, Beth Ambrozic in Diving and Kelly O' Brien, Lindsey Mast, Haley McCoy and Sarah Eigner in the 200 Medley Relay. Additional top 16 placers include: Carliann Brashier (Bra-Sheer) in the 100 / 200 Free, Kelly O' Brien in the 50 free and 100 Backstroke, Haley McCoy in the 100 Fly, Kaeli Kluesner and Elizabeth Miller in the 500 Free, Paige Newell and Kelly O'Brien in the 100 back and Lindsey Mast in the 100 Breaststroke. Finally, the 400 Free relay team of Carliann Brasheer, Carolyn Pasque, Emily Thompson and Sarah Eigner placed 10th. Congratulations Warriors swimmers and divers!

All Boys swimmers and divers should meet in the pool after school for a team meeting.

Congratulations go out to Tucker Korus, Colby Klusener, and Devon Minshall for competing in the state tournament this weekend. Great Job Warriors.

Attention all Wrestlers: Equipment turn-in will be on Thursday, February 22, beginning 6th period and immediately after school.

Congratulations to all members of the Winter Guard for placing 1st at Saturday's Standley Lake Competition! Arapahoe scored a season high 77.4, 2.1 points higher than 2nd place Legacy! Our Winter Guard has now been recognized as the best in the state, for the 2nd competition in a row. Way to go Ladies!!!

Girl Golfers will meet at Heritage High School today for practice. All girl golfers must be at Heritage by 3pm in room 324 for the rules meeting. See Coach Abner if you cannot attend.

Girl’s basketball will be hosting the ladies of Littleton tonight with Varsity tip off at 7:00 pm. This will also be “Senior Night” so please come out and help us honor our senior players.

The boy’s basketball teams will be traveling to Littleton High School to take on the Lions. The varsity game will begin at 7:00 pm. Go Warriors!

Your Special Olympic Basketball team has improved to a perfect 6-0 record with a 56-30 win over the Southsiders on Monday night at AHS gym. There was electricity (and music –thanks to the AHS band) in the air and a good crowd in the stands to witness what started out as a close game. Spurred on by second half baskets by Marcus Doucett and Duke Rodgers, AHS pulled away to the final margin of victory. Senior participants (players and helpers) and their parents were honored at halftime. Thanks to you all for making this team a continued success story -especially this year! Our next practice for partners and players is Feb. 20th at 7pm.

Girls Tennis, Soccer and Golf registration will be held tomorrow, February 14th at 2:30 pm in Room S3. Registration paperwork is available in the Athletic Office.

Boy’s basketball will be hosting their final regular season home game tonight against Highlands Ranch. It is also “Senior Night” so please come help us honor our seniors before the game. Varsity tip off will begin at approximately 7:00 pm.
The girl’s teams will be traveling to Highlands Ranch to take on the Falcons. The varsity game will start at 7:00 pm. Go Warriors!

Congratulations to the Girls Swim and Dive team for winning the Continental League Championships! Congratulations to the following new state qualifiers: Devon Smith, Megan Perron, Sarah Eiger, Emily Thompson, and Emily Anderson! The girls swimming and diving team will be competing at state Friday and Saturday in Fort Collins! Thanks for all your support this season!

Seniors—please attend the senior class meeting on Valentine’s Day to work on the Cultural Exchange with the Arapaho Tribe. This is a mandatory meeting this Wednesday, after school in room C-1, for all who’ve been approved to participate and for those who are still interested.

Congratulations to Freshman Clarinetist, Phillip Strom, for being selected to the 2007 Concordia University Honor Band, in Nebraska. Over 210 high school musicians from 12 different states auditioned for this year’s Concordia Honor Band and Choirs. A select number of 51 outstanding musicians were selected to the 2007 Honor Band. Way to go Phillip!

ATTENTION DECA MEMBERS! There is a role play practice session today for the people attending state. This will take place right after school in Room S2.

Sign up for the Blood Drive during lunch hours this week. There are only 18 spots left. Students ages 16 and older can donate this year. Sixteen and seventeen year olds just need parent permission. The Blood Drive will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15th.

Students: Remember the deadline for registering for Career Day is Monday, February 12th. The Career Day is mandatory for all students at Arapahoe. Please make your selections and don't miss out on an exciting day.

We’ll be meeting in our usual place, C16, to share the work of proof reading and organizing the writing, viewing the art work and selecting our cover. We have lots of important work to do and we need you there. Rumor has it there might be pizza too. All Musers come to C16, today at 2:30.

Arapahoe’s Jazz II starts off the evening at 5:30pm, and our top jazz band, Arapahoe Jazz I, performs at 7:50pm.

The Sophomore, JV and Varsity Girls basketball teams will be hosting the mustangs of Ponderosa tonight. Varsity will be tipping off at 7:00 pm. The boys teams will be traveling to Ponderosa for their match ups. Varsity game time will be at 7:00 pm. Go Warriors!

To a roaring crowd of Warrior supporters, our undefeated Special Olympics basketball team played an unforgettable game against the previously undefeated South Suburban team. With a final score of 49 to 42, our Warriors maintained their undefeated drive! No game is without its MVP’s and last night’s game was no exception! With the talented skills of Tyler Clyatt, Kevin Stone, Chris La Crue and the shut down defense of Gabe Ericsan and the unsurpassed skills of all of our talented partners and players. Come support our Warriors at the next scheduled game against the Southsiders, Monday Feb 12th at 7:00pm, hosted by Arapahoe High School!

Chocolate roses have arrived. If you are planning to sell roses please stop by Mrs. Rains’ office and pick up a box anytime today or Monday. Also, we will have a meeting on Monday February 5th after school in room E2. If you are planning to attend Districts or State Conference you must attend this meeting. We will also be discussing our visit to the Sacred Heart Homeless Shelter in March.

Congratulations to the Winter Guard for placing 1st in open class at Saturday's Jefferson Show with a score of 73.4, more than 6 points higher than their closest competition! Way to go Winter Guard!!

Way to go FBLA! Congratulations to all that attended districts! Many of the members have qualified for state competition. There will be an Ice Cream Social February 12 for FBLA members. See you there!

Arapahoe Speech competitors participated in the Douglas County Invite Saturday. Finalists included Liana Boraas, Laura Garcia, Nathan Arnold, and Ryan Foley. Congratulations, Speechies!

The drive will continue through today, so please bring in all you can! There are boxes to place your donations in, in department offices and many classrooms. Please support Key Club and help your troops overseas.

Today teachers will be talking during 2nd hour about the upcoming 2007 Career Day to be held at AHS on April 10, 2007. If you have an unscheduled 2nd hour class, information concerning the Career Day will be available to you during 4th hour in the cafeteria this week. You will need to pick up the List of Careers and Instructions for making your Career Day requests. If you have further questions, see Ms. Messer in the Business Department.

All Student Council kids who are attending the Tri School Retreat need to be at the south cafeteria door entrance by 11:15 am today, ready to go.

It is once again time for the most exciting sporting events at Arapahoe High School. It’s the annual wrestling dual meet against Heritage High School at Sitting Eagle Gymnasium tonight. The Lower Levels will begin at 5:30, and the Varsity will begin at 7:00 pm. We are also raising money for the Berthoud Wrestlers that lost their legs in a car accident. Please come out and support wrestling in our community and state.
