General Announcements:

Students as many of you know it is Halloween on Monday. You are welcome to dress-up for the holiday, but please make sure your costume is dress code appropriate. Remember you cannot wear masks or have your face covered. Also, no weapons or facsimiles of weapons. Students will be asked to change if attire is deemed inappropriate or too distracting to the academic environment.

Locker tags will be taken down on Monday. If you would like to keep your locker tag, please make sure you remove it otherwise they will be thrown away.

What is the binary representation of 2,011?...[wait 2 seconds]…Time’s up! Interested in answering this question and others like it? CSU is hosting its annual Math Day competition Thursday, November 3rd. If you would like to participate please sign up with Mr. Thurmond in the Math office. Space is limited.

ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS AND SENIORS: The 2012 trip to Washington D.C. is here again! This trip is an amazing opportunity to experience Washington D.C. and participate with kids from around the nation in examining issues. This is NOT your 8th grade trip, which was fun, but was primarily tourism. For those interested in this trip please attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, November 1st at 2:30 in room C8. If you are unable to attend the meeting please see Mr. Hawthorne or Mr. Meyer in the Social Studies department during any off hour on Tuesday, the 1st. There is also a parent meeting for those interested on Thursday in Room N2 at 6:00 p.m.

Hey seniors! In an effort to prevent mistakes in the yearbook, we would like you to come to the yearbook room, E-8, to make sure that your senior photos and biographies are correct. Today is the final day to check for any corrections.

Hey Warriors! Tonight is the night you've all been waiting for...The annual DECA Dodgeball Tournament. The opening ceremony will start at 6 p.m. in the Main Gym. Come out and cheer on your favorite movie teams as they compete for the coveted title of Dodgeball Champion.

If you are playing on a dodgeball team remember that you are required to attend a rules meeting. The final meeting will be held in the Forum today at 2:30. Students who do not attend one of the meetings will not be allowed to play.

Come down to the library and guess how many Halloween candies are in the glass pumpkin! The student whose comes the closest to the actual amount …. will win the jar full of candy! The winner will be announced Monday, Oct. 31st during the daily announcements. Happy Halloween from your AHS Library Staff!

Lights, Camera, Dodgeball! Don’t forget that the DECA Dodgeball tournament is coming up tomorrow. Admission to the tournament is only $3. You don’t want to miss this red-carpet event!

Attention Dodgeball Players! If you are playing on a dodgeball team remember that you are required to attend a rules meeting. The meetings will be held in the Forum today at 5:30, and tomorrow at 2:30. Students who do not attend one of the meetings will not be allowed to play.

All students planning to compete in this Saturday’s Great Pumpkin Speech and Debate tournament at Rock Canyon must attend a meeting after school today at 2:30 in C15. Additionally, the varsity season begins in November. Students wanting to compete in November should also plan to attend this meeting.

Warriors, this is the last week of the Bronco Food Drive. We still need cans and non-perishable food. Let’s fill those boxes in the classrooms and help Tackle Hunger! Let’s finish strong!

Attention juniors and seniors! Anyone interested in taking concurrent enrollment classes through Arapahoe Community College should attend a short meeting on Thursday, October 27th in the Forum during lunch. This program allows students to take college-level classes while still in high school and receive both high school and college credit. Registration forms will be available at that time.

Sophomores, the PLAN, a practice ACT test, is being offered this Saturday, October 29th. Today is the LAST day to register! Don’t forget to come to the Guidance Office and sign up! The cost is $10.

Congratulations to Nikki Latala and Lizzie Stephanie for their second place finish in Public Forum Debate at this past Saturday’s Kent Denver Novice Speech and Debate meet. Congratulations also goes to Angie Mock for earning a superior rating in Lincoln-Douglas debate

There will be a “working” TSA meeting tonight after school in E10. We will be signing up for competitions and printing the rules. If you are interested in TSA and haven’t received paperwork, come tonight to get it. If you are interested in attending the TSA Leadership conference in December, paperwork will be handed out tonight for this.

Thanks to all of the chemistry students who made Mole Day a HUGE success. Hundreds of students arrived by 6:02 a.m. this morning to compete or cheer on their class teams in a MOLE-titude of events. Congratulations to the Grand Mole Champion Class - Mr. Hatak's 6th hour AP Chemistry Class

If you are applying for membership to National Honor Society, remember that application packets are due today, no exceptions. Make sure you turn in all four pages of the application, along with a $15 check for your application fee, to Mrs. Kazakoff in the guidance office by 3:00 p.m. today. Thanks!

The Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard will be performing in their State Quarter Finals competition at 12:15 PM on Friday, October 21 at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Colorado State University. This performance will qualify us to perform on Saturday, October 22 in semi-finals and finals competition!!! For more information about the State Championship schedules and ticket information, please visit the Colorado Bandmasters Association website at www.coloradobandmasters.org. We would love to see everyone there to cheer us on -- good luck and GO WARRIOR BAND!!!

It’s the third week of the Broncos Tackle Hunger Food Drive and we need every Warrior to help! We only have this week and next week to collect our goal of 500 boxes of food. Bring in your cans and non-perishable food items! We need them now! There are collection boxes in each of the classrooms. You CAN make a difference in the lives of people who need food!!

Reminder to juniors and seniors: Please attend the Financial Aid night meeting with your parents tonight at 6:30 p.m.

FBLA members . . . It is time to meet to discuss fun and games at trick or treat street. Our meeting is today after school in room E9. Come join the fun!

Did you know that a mole of sugar molecules will only make 55 marshmallows, BUT a mole of marshmallows would cover the United States to a depth of 776 miles! Chemistry students, don’t forget that Mole Day is this Friday and you need to be here by 5:55 am to be counted. See you in the main gym, it’ll be a BLAST.

Tickets for the People vs. Maxine Lowe are on sale. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased in the cafeteria at lunch. The performance dates are tomorrow through Saturday at 7 p.m.

Athletics:

Congrats to the volleyball teams for their sweep of Smoky Hill last night. All four teams--freshman, sophomore, jv, and varsity--were victorious. The Warriors play their last regular season game tomorrow night away at Cherry Creek. Games are at 4, 5, and 6:15. The winner of the varsity match will take 2nd place in league. Come on out and help cheer them on!

Good morning ABK fans. Tomorrow the guys will be playing Columbine here at AHS @ 4:00. It is the last home game of the regular season. The team is currently ranked 2nd in the state and will be gearing up for the playoffs next week. At tomorrow’s game the players are requesting that all fans wear black and bring at least one canned food product for our AHS Tackle Food campaign. As always, thank you for your support and see you tomorrow.

Congratulations to our Arapahoe Warrior Cheerleaders. They competed this past weekend at Chaparral High School in the AmeriCheer Regional competition. The JV team took 2nd place and Varsity took 1st place in their divisions. The varsity team also captured high point in the cheer division!! Come cheer on the Cheers at their Centennial League Competition coming up at 4:00 p.m. on November 1st at Eaglecrest High School.

Calling all Sportscasters! Have you ever dreamed about being a sports broadcaster? Do you think you have what it takes to entertain fans? If this sounds like you, then come tryout to be an announcer for the DECA Dodgeball Tournament. Tryouts will take place today at 2:30 p.m. in room S1. We are looking for a few exciting and enthusiastic students to help make this year's tournament a fun event.

General Announcements:

Hey Warriors – Let’s start the talk. Join us this evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the AHS Theater, where we will start to address the questions you have about suicide. A panel of professionals will be available to answer your anonymous questions. Bring your questions with you or submit them in advance in any of the boxes now in the cafeteria and library. This will be a dynamic discussion, which you won’t want to miss. Together we can start the talk and keep it going. You don’t need to have questions to attend; merely an investment in your fellow warriors, the community, and yourself. See you there!!

The TSA club will NOT meet after school today, but will meet next Monday after school in room E10. If you are interested in TSA and did not receive the paperwork last week, please see Mr. McMullen in E7 or attend next Monday’s meeting.

The Guidance Center and Athletic Office will be hosting a NCAA/NAIA Compliance Orientation for all interested seniors and juniors in the AHS Forum on Tuesday, October 25th during 1st and 2nd lunches. Congratulations to the girls and boys cross country Teams for their performance at the Centennial League Meet on Thursday. The Girls Varsity team won 1st place overall and the Boys Varsity earned 2nd. All JV and Open division runners also earned 2nd place finishes to wrap up their season.

All students interested in speech and debate and planning to compete in the Kent Denver meet on October 22 and/or the Great Pumpkin tournament at Rock Canyon on the 29th must attend today’s meeting after school at 2:30 in C15.

ALL students taking the PSAT tomorrow must have their AHS student ID number. Please have the ID number readily available. Thank you.

Congratulations goes to Aaron Bilek for receiving an excellent ribbon in extemporaneous speaking at Saturday's Regis High School's Novice Speech Meet. Nice job Aaron!

Congratulations to the Arapahoe Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard for their outstanding performance this weekend!!! The band and color guard performed at the University of Wyoming / Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps Marching Invitational in Laramie, Wyoming on Saturday and placed first out of nine performing bands -- they also took first place in many caption awards!!!

· 1st place – Overall Performance
· 1st place – Outstanding Percussion
· 1st place – Outstanding Auxiliary
· 1st place – Outstanding Marching
· 1st place – Outstanding Music
· 3rd place – Drum Major

The Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard will be performing in their State Qualifying Regional Competition TONIGHT at LPS Stadium. The band performs at 7:30 PM and their placement at this competition will determine their overall ranking in the entire state going into the State Festival on October 21 and 22. We would love to see everyone there to cheer us on -- good luck and GO WARRIOR BAND!!!

The first informational TSA club meeting will be today in Room E10 @ 2:25 This will be a brief informational meeting to find out more about this School, State, and National organization. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and tomorrow night is the THINK PINK volleyball match against Grandview. To show our support for this important cause, all of the players and coaches will be wearing pink to school and during the game. We are asking that ALL of the students and staff of AHS also wear pink to school tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4. Prizes will be given at the game for the best pink outfits! Also, pink items will be on sale in the DECA store all week and all proceeds will be donated. Games tomorrow night are at 4:00, 5:00, and varsity is at 6:15 pm.
