General Announcements


Thank you to those who have brought in toys for the AHS Toys for Tots!  We have 250 toys today.  We need another 750 toys to meet our goal.  We have 7 school days to make it happen.  No need to wait until the last minute.  You can bring them in now.

Club yearbook pictures will be taken on Monday, Dec. 5. Check the posters in the halls for the time assigned to your club and then meet in the art hall 15 minutes before you are scheduled.

Hey guys!  It’s time for another community service just ‘cause meeting, this Thursday in room C-19.  We’re adopting a family for the holidays and we’re going to be serving dinner to homeless people, so we need you there!  It’s not too late to join!  Hope to see you there!

Juniors who plan on participating in Division I or II NCAA Collegiate Sports must see Mrs. Oeinck in the Guidance Center regarding the ACT State Assessment voucher before January 11, 2006.

Tickets are now on sale for Jazz I and The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs’ performance at Dazzle’s Jazz Club in Downtown Denver, on Monday, December 5th.  Professional Jazz Vocalist, Barbara Paris will be singing with Jazz I and the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra will perform following Arapahoe’s set.  Performances start at 7pm, and the cost is just $10, which will get you into the Dec. 5th event, as well as a future Dazzle’s jazz concert.  Tickets are now available from any Jazz I student, or they can also be purchased in the Band Office.

Attention new NHS members. If you were not present at the Induction ceremony, you may pick up your certificate from Mrs. Lobser in the Enrichment Room. The first NHS meeting for new members is scheduled for Wednesday, December 7th right after school in the Forum. We need all new members to attend this important and short informational meeting.


A reminder to all TSA members that we will have our TSA Holiday party slash meeting this Monday, December 5th from 2:30 to 3:15 in room E-10.  We will then gather to get our club picture taken at 3:35.  It is important for all club members to attend this fun meeting.  We will be setting plans for 2nd semester!!  Hope to see you there.  Please see Mr. McMullen for questions.




Athletics

Cross Country Runners who have not picked up their Arrowheads, and Statistic & Record Book, can pick them up in the attendance office.

Attention all girls interested in playing tennis in the spring:  there will be a mandatory meeting in room W103 today, at 2:30 pm.  This meeting is for all girls who are not currently involved in a winter sport.  Please see Coach Brayton if you can't attend.

Congratulations to Sean Kenney for receiving the DAR Award for Arapahoe High School.  Sean automatically receives 25 dollars and a nice luncheon for himself and his family.  Sean also will be taking a two hour essay exam and will be competing for additional scholarship money.

You’re all invited to join the Arapahoe Small Instrumental Ensembles in downtown Littleton on Friday evening for the Annual Littleton Candlelight Walk!  The music will start at 6pm, and Santa will process down Main Street from the railroad tracks down to the Melting Pot, starting at 6:30pm.  Our Brass Ensemble will perform in antiphonal fashion across from the Town Hall Arts Center.  As Santa reaches each block in the procession, a new block of beautiful holiday lights are turned on – don’t miss this fun, holiday event!!

Justin Lambert placed fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking.  Will Hea and David Shuck placed third in policy debate.

Students:  Here is some very important information to write down in your student planner.    The Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (NOVEMBER 22ND) you will go to your Thursday classes and NOT your Tuesday classes.    

An Annapolis Naval Academy Midshipman, Spencer Hunt, will be in the Post Grad Center to visit with students on Monday, 11/21 from 10:30 to 12:30.  If a Naval Academy education interests you, please come talk to Spencer on Monday, 11/21.

Attention Student Council Members!  Anyone interested in doing the Parade of Lights must have their registration forms in by this Friday, to Ms. Abner.  That’s tomorrow!  If you need a form, or if you have any questions, see Ms. Abner.

Jazz, Swing, Rock, New Orleans Traditional Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Salsa, and Latin – you’ll hear it all tonight at our Jazz Concert in the cafeteria!  All the fun starts at 7pm and it’s free!!  Dessert and beverages will also be served throughout the evening, and their free, too!!!  Come hear Jazz II, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs, and Jazz I.  This is your chance to hear the national Downbeat Award Winning Jazz I, who will also be featured at the State Music Educators Convention in January at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs!!  See you tonight for some great jazz in the cafeteria!!!

Congratulations to our AHS Toms for capturing the Continental League Championships for the third straight year!  The JV cheer team placed 2nd, and the Varsity Cheers placed 4th.  The Toms will be competing in the UDA dance regional competition this Saturday at Ponderosa High school.  Also, come support the cheers at their next competition here at AHS this Saturday.  Good luck, Cheers and Toms!  The Varsity Cheers and Toms will also be competing in the State Competition which will be held at the Denver Coliseum on Friday, December 2nd.

General Announcements

Students:  Here is some very important information to write down in your student planner.    The Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (NOVEMBER 22ND) you will go to your Thursday classes and NOT your Tuesday classes.    

Students – Arena Scheduling is this week.   Seniors will be scheduling today after school.   The juniors and sophomores will be scheduling tomorrow, November 16.   Remember – there are NO classes tomorrow.  Arena Scheduling begins at 7:30 tomorrow morning.   Please stop by the Guidance Center or the Attendance office if you do not know what time you schedule.   Thanks!

Attn:  All Students;  If your name appears on the fine list for bookkeeping or the library, your registration card was pulled Friday afternoon.  Your card will not be released for arena scheduling until all your fees and fines are cleared.  If you are on the salmon colored fine list posted outside the bookkeeping office and on the leadership office window in the cafeteria, you have a fine with the bookkeeping office.  If you are on the library fine list, you must clear your fine in the library.  If you are on both fine lists, you must clear your fine in the library and bring a library clearance slip to the bookkeeping office, and clear your fine with bookkeeping also ... then your card can be released for arena scheduling.  Thank You

Congratulations to the speech competitors at the Creek - East Turkey Speech and Debate Meet!
Shamita Punjabi advanced to semi-finals in Original Oratory Justin Lambert placed fourth in both National Extemp and International Extemp.; Josie Garry placed third in Dramatic Interpretation!

Amnesty members!  We will meet after school today in Mr. Rosenberg’s room.  Hope to see you there!

Due to after school arena scheduling, the speech Club meeting will not be held today.  Instead, we will meet Thursday afternoon after school.  Also, the DPS speech tournament this weekend is on Saturday, November 19th only. Participants will not be leaving school on Friday or competing that afternoon.

Hey Warriors!  Are you looking for something fun to do tomorrow, November 16th?!  Our Arapahoe Cheers and Toms work hard all year supporting our school, now it’s our turn to support them!   Come watch the Cheers and Toms compete in the 2005 Continental League Spirit Championships.  The competition is here at AHS beginning at 4:00 p.m. the cost is only $3.00 with ID.  That’s this Wednesday, November 16th in the large gym.  Good luck to both teams!

Today is Veterans' Day, and we welcome veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the current conflict in Afghanistan to AHS.  Originally known as Armistice Day, this holiday first commemorated the victory in WWI.  In 1954, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans' Day, a fitting tribute to all the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.  To further honor those veterans in your life and to show our support for their dedication and sacrifice for our country; please write their name on our Veteran’s wall poster located just outside the leadership office.  If you know what branch of the military that they served please add that as well.  Thank you!!

The Arapahoe High School Football Team will play its first playoff game this Saturday, November 12, 2005 @ 12:00pm at Jefferson County Stadium.  We will be playing Bear Creek High School.  Jefferson County Stadium is located at 500 Kipling Ave (just off 6th and Kipling).  The ticket gates will open at 11:00am, ticket prices are $5.00 for students K-12 & Senior Citizen (age 60), Adults $7.00.  No league passes will be accepted, if you have a CHSAA Courtesy Card make sure you bring a photo id.

Attention all girls swimmers and divers, a mandatory parent meeting is set to begin at 7PM tonight in the Forum. Also, today at 4 PM, we will begin performing time trials for swimming. Finally, diving will begin at 5:15 today and tomorrow.

Warrior Varsity Volleyball ended their season in hard fought regional tournament Saturday.  They battled Rampart, Chaparral, and Doherty to five games a piece and ended in a three way tie for second place.  The Warriors lost a playoff game against Doherty bringing an end to their awesome season.  The team ended with a 17-9 overall record which is the best in several years.  Congrats on a great season.  Varsity players, please meet in the gym immediately after school for uniform, warm up, and bag turn in.
See you then.  Also, don't forget the banquet at Glenmoor Country Club tomorrow night at 6:30 pm.

Athletics

Congratulations to the freshman football team on their 38-18 win over Hinkley on Saturday.  This win marks their 6th straight victory!  Great season Warriors!  Do not forget equipment turn in today after school.

There will be a meeting for all students wanting to participate in baseball on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00pm., in the tiered classroom.  We will be going over all of the off season workouts.

AHS Special Olympics Basketball team is looking for partners to play on the team.  Practices are on Monday nights from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Arapahoe.  Practices start in November and the season runs through the end of February.  If you are interested, please see Mrs. Pepe in room S6 to sign up.  If you have picked up an application, please turn it.  We are still looking for help.

Today is the First Day of Wrestling Practice.  Practice will begin at 2:45 in the New Wrestling Room.  Make sure you bring your pink card.  See you there!

General Announcements

OK, listen up Arapahoe whiz kids—yes I mean you!  Time to stop sitting on your writing, and send it out to be published in the Muse, Arapahoe’s magazine of writing & visual art.  It’s SO easy!  How easy is it?  On the Arapahoe Home page go to Activities, then Muse.  You’ll find a simple submission form online.  Piece of cake!  A cinch!  Invest two minutes of your time and you may be published in the ultra-cool magazine of the best high school in the state.   See your writing in print, where it belongs! Come on, you guys—you know you have a poem, essay, or story that’s worth sharing, so give it up for the Muse!  The first deadline for work is Friday, November 11th, so  GIT ‘ER DONE!! 

Attention all students ... Current fees and fines lists are being updated regularly from bookkeeping and are posted outside of the bookkeeping office and on the leadership window in the cafeteria.  You will not be allowed to participate in arena scheduling until all fees and fines are paid or cleared.  We are posting fines on a daily basis and will continue to do so through Thursday afternoon.  Your schedule will be pulled Friday, if you have an outstanding balance on your account, and you will not be allowed to participate in arena scheduling until your account is clear.  All course fees, athletic fees and activity fees that were invoiced and due payable in full October 31st; and all textbook, parking, athletic and supply fines must be paid in booking.  Library fines must be paid in the library.  Thank You.

Attention anyone interested in taking Sports Medicine:  You must sign-up for an interview with Mrs. Bradley in the women’s Physical Education office.  Your schedule must be signed by Mrs. Bradley in order for you to take the class. 

Attention Mathematicians! The University of Northern Colorado Math Competition is scheduled for today, November 4th after school in rooms N2 and N3. Refreshments will be served. Please see Mrs. Lobser if you are interested in participating.

Attention all swimmers, If you did not attend the training trip informational meeting last night, You must stop in and see coach Richmond immediately after school today. Otherwise, check your email for the hand outs.

Girls interested in trying out for Basketball we have open gym on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for all levels and we have the Weight Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 PM.  Try-outs are starting the week of November 7th.

Attention all freshman football players! Please bring all of your clean football equipment to turn in on Monday, November 7th, right after school. If you do not bring it in on Monday, you will be fined.
