General Announcements

Warriors, it is great to see so many of you participating in the spirit of Halloween. Just a reminder that you cannot have weapons or facsimiles of weapons, masks or anything covering your face that makes you unrecognizable. Be safe tonight and take care of one another. 

As promised, it is time to announce the winner of the student candy filled pumpkin jar in the library and the staff candy jar in the main office. And the winner is . . . senior, Kevin Dement with the correct guess of 111.  Please come to the library to pick up your prize!  The winner of the staff candy jar . . . is Mr. Swomley with the correct guess of 327.  We want to thank everyone who participated!  Congratulations Kevin and Mr. Swomley.

Today is the day!!  Student Council is collecting donations for Colorado Flood Victim Relief.  AHS is rising to the challenge from Lakewood High School to have all high schools in America raise $1,000. We are asking all students to donate $1 today.  Student Council members have collection cans.  

Attention all DECA members, don't forget there's a meeting after school today.  It'll be a scary good time!

Attention all Juniors and Seniors.  Do you have a 3.0 grade point average?  Have you taken three business classes?  If so, pick up an application for Arapahoe's newest organization, The National Business Honor Society!  As a nationally recognized business scholar, you will have access to scholarships, participate in service learning and have a new addition to your college resume!  Stop by the Business Department for more details 

Do you owe a library fine? Want to help someone in need? Bring nonperishable food items to the library to reduce your library fine. For each food item brought in, your library fine will be reduced by fifty cents. This is a great way to take care of your library fines and help someone else at the same time.

Attention all Arapahoe Students . . . we are calling on you to help others in our community who are in need.  We will be collecting non-perishable food for the students and community at Field Elementary through tomorrow.  Please help us support the Food for Field drive by bringing cans or non-perishable food to the boxes located in each classroom. The winning class will receive a prize. We will also be hosting a raffle during both lunches.  Please bring two non-perishable items in exchange for a raffle ticket. The winners of ten Deca Dollars will be announced tomorrow. Show your support for the community and make sure to donate!

Seniors:  Scholarship applications are arriving daily and some have deadlines coming up soon. Check on Naviance. There is something for everyone.

Athletics

As the Warriors soccer, football and volleyball teams enter playoff competition, the Spear broadcast team will be there to cover all the action. Boys soccer on Wednesday night, football on Friday evening and volleyball on Saturday morning. Watch all the games and matches live or on demand on the Spear! Go Warriors!

Anyone who would like to participate with the Unified Basketball team or Unified Cheer team, please come to an introduction meeting Tuesday November 5, in Room S6 starting at 2:30. If you are not able to make it please see Ms. Hernley in room S6 on Wednesday November 6. Bring your friends and prove that a Warrior always takes care of one another.

The AHS Swim Waiver will be given Thursday, November 14th and Friday, November 15th at 6:00 a.m. You must only attend one test.  Space is limited to the first 20 students. You must pre-register with Mrs. Leyden in the women's PE office or email her at: jleyden@lps.k12.co.us.  Test criteria is on the AHS home webpage.

Hey Warriors!  Do you want to be a part of a championship team at Arapahoe?  Our award winning Winter Guard is starting up this week!  If you want to be part of the action, learn to spin a flag, dance and perform, please attend our info meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the AHS band room!  You can also talk to Mr. Funk or Mr. Bailey for more information.  Go Warrior Winter Guard!

The Winter Percussion Ensemble will be holding their first informational meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the AHS band room.  If you are interested in learning how to play in the drum line or front percussion ensemble and have the opportunity to perform around the state with our award winning Winter Percussion Ensemble then please attend this informational meeting.  You can also talk to Mr. Funk or Mr. Gust for more information.

FBLA competition sign-up will take place today at 2:20 in Room E9.  All members who wish to compete must sign up for a competition. Have questions about what events to sign up for? Come to our meeting to get all of your questions answered and find the best event for you.  

Warriors...make your voice count and help revitalize the You Matter Club!  Come to the first You Matter Club meeting today after school in the Guidance Conference Room.  See you there!

Warriors, following their exciting week last week, featuring a concert by Katie Perry, Lakewood High School is challenging all high schools in America to raise $1,000 to donate to flood victim relief. Arapahoe High School always rises to a challenge. We are asking all students to bring $1 to donate to Flood Victim Relief this Thursday. Student Council Members will have cans to collect donations. Lets show our support by raising well over $1,000!

Lady Warrior lacrosse players . . . it is time to register for spring lacrosse.   With our talented coaching staff and multiple teams, it will be great season.   Tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the AHS Library, we will hold spring girls lacrosse registration.  Come join us and feel free to check out the AHS Girls Team website at  http://girls.ahslax.org   Go Warriors!

Please come and join us to be part of our march to "March Madness" and a championship. We have four levels to fill, Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior Varsity and Varsity. So, regardless of your experience level, you can find a spot to experience the excitement of Arapahoe Lady Hoops! Check the Girl's basketball website at: arapahoeladyhoops.com, for the Pre-season camp schedule.

"Pink Cards" for Winter Sports will be distributed in the Cafeteria today from 2:15 pm - 2:45 pm.  Online registration must be completed and a current physical must be on file in the Athletic Office before student-athletes can receive their "Pink Card". Registration is completed online at www.ahswarriors.org.

Tomorrow, Arapahoe High School has the privilege of hosting the Colorado Supreme Court.  Because of this, the library will be closed that day to student use in order to provide a place for a breakfast and luncheon for the justices and their clerks. The library staff realizes this will be an inconvenience and ask that you plan ahead for your study needs. Rarely does a school get such an opportunity to witness our legal system in action firsthand. Your flexibility and understanding is appreciated.

Once again it’s time for the annual Halloween Candy Jar Count in the Library!! Come down to the library and guess how many Halloween candies are in the glass jar!  The student who comes the closest to the actual amount will win the jar full of candy!  Only one guess per day, please.  The winner will be announced on Halloween during the daily announcements. Happy Halloween from your AHS Library Staff!

Congratulations to Mr. Kuhlman and Mrs. Smith for placing in the top 10 out of 200 runners in the 10k race at the Stride last Sunday. Mr. Kuhlman placed 3rd overall and Mrs. Smith finished 2nd in the Women's division. Wow! Also congratulations to students Nick Lipski and Nick Spencer who finished 2nd and 3rd out of over 1,800 participants in the 5k run. Thanks Warriors for participating in the Stride and thanks to Link Crew, DECA, and Key Club for volunteering your valuable time to make it a success.

General Announcements

Congratulations to the Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard for an AMAZING set of performances at the CBA State Marching Band Championships this weekend!!!  Overall, the band and guard finished 5th in the State of Colorado in 5A competition with a score of 76.35!  Congratulations on an outstanding season!

The AHS Speech and Debate Team finished the novice season with a strong performance at this past Saturday’s Great Pumpkin Tournament held at Castle View High School. The team earned eight superior ribbons along with two excellent ribbons. Members receiving superior ratings included:

·   Josie Lee and Sarah Jenkins in Dramatic Interpretation
·   Maddison North in Poetry Interpretation
·   Sanat Mehta in National Extemporaneous Speaking
·   Alise Kernan and Caleb O’Hayre in Lincoln Douglas Debate
·   The team of Brent Cary and Evan Pierpont in Public Forum Debate
·   Addie Finch placed first overall in Original Oratory having taken first in all three rounds of her competition.

Yasmine Lame earned an excellent ribbon in Original Oratory as did Laura Friedrich in Lincoln Douglas Debate.  Well done team!  The team plans to take this momentum into next Saturday’s varsity meet, the Cherry Creek Classic, the first varsity meet of the season.

Sophomores, don’t forget about the opportunity to take the PLAN, a practice ACT test, on Saturday, November 2nd!  Today is the last day to register. The cost is $15.

Athletics

Congratulations to the Varsity volleyball team for winning the Rangeview Tournament this weekend. They went 4-0 on the day, defeating Strasburg, Castleview, and Platte Valley in pool play.  In the championship match, the Warriors beat Fossil Ridge in five games, handing them their first loss of the season.  Arapahoe ends the regular season with a record of 20-2.  Regionals will be played this Saturday, November 2nd.  More information to come.

Arapahoe cross country capped off a great season this weekend in Colorado Springs.  The boys team placed 3rd in the state and the girls team finished in 16th place.  Emily Wolff closed out her high school season with an individual 10th place finish.  Great way to finish Running Warriors!

The Heritage co-op gymnastics team had a great performance at the Region 1 competition held on Wednesday, October 23 at Cherry Creek High School.  With an impressive 6th place team finish, Arapahoe gymnasts Annika Bobb, Brooke Dreier and Courney Cissel finished 21st, 26th and 27th in the All-Around exercises and Annika took a 29th place in the Floor exercise.  Congratulations to all members of this gymnastics team!
