General Announcements

Need money for college? First Bank offers a scholarship to a Littleton Public Schools graduating senior who will attend a Colorado college or university. This scholarship is to provide assistance to students of low to moderate income families. Application is in the Post Grad Center.

Hey Everyone, Student Council elections are here again. I’m sure you have noticed the awesome posters all around the school. Don’t miss your chance to vote for who will represent you next year. Voting will be held on May 2nd and 3rd in the cafeteria from 7am until 2:30pm. You must also bring your student ID to be able to vote. So choose or lose. Go Vote!!

Any students that signed up for life guarding classes with Mrs. Leyden need to pick up enrollment forms in her office. Also, those needing CPR renewals need to stop by the office to sign up for a testing time.

Congratulations to the 2006 Southglenn Library Contest winners! Their artwork will hang in the Southglenn Library for one year. Athletics

Congratulations to the Arapahoe Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team!! They won the Continental League Championship Wednesday night when they defeated cross town rival Heritage 10-6. They are undefeated in League play. Scoring for your Warriors were: Tyler Snyder 1 goal, Stephen Gerhard 4 goals, Ben Johns 1 goal Matt Pullara 1, Eric Law 2 goals and Ross Klein 1 goal. Goalie Peyton Tyrie had another great game with 9 saves and Wes Gibler had 3. Last night was a huge team effort Great job guys. We are all so proud of you. Again Congratulations!

The girls JV soccer team defeated Littleton yesterday 7 – 2. Amanda Wojhan, Amy Barczuk, Natalie Maes, Haley Cook and Sarah Barczuk each had one goal and Lauren Moelenpaugh had two. Briana Bailey served up three assists while Lauren Durkin, Sarah Barczuk, Natalie Maes and Amy Barczuk tallied the rest.

The Freshmen/Sophomore Girls Track Team dominated their league meet yesterday here at Arapahoe by out scoring the rest of the league by 82 point. With their 200 points, here are our individual league champions: Elese McClaire in the 100 and 200 dashes, Emily Kirchhofer 1600 and 3200 m. runs, Cynthia Johnson shot and discus and Emily Thompson in the triple jump. Great meet ladies. The girls track team will have practice today to hand out awards and go over upcoming meets.

The boys freshmen - sophomore track team was victorious last night at their league championships. They scored 182.5 points nearly doubling the score of second place Thunder Ridge. Leading the warriors to victory were individual champions Reger Craigo 100m Dash, Jade Berush 400m dash and Jeff Hahl in both the 110 hurdles and the high jump. Congratulations to all who participated on their outstanding meet. The varsity team will be in action this Friday and Saturday at LPS competing in the Liberty Bell Invitational. Good Luck tracksters.

Forms are available in the Main Office, Attendance Office and the Dean's Office in the Guidance Center. All NON - Arapahoe guests MUST be approved for prom to be admitted to the After-Prom.

JV Black Lacrosse team put a huge win in the books last night against Regis. A very exciting game ended 5-4. Jesse Oeinck was all over taking the ball from Regis in their zone, Fano Santori's lightening speed kept the ball in our zone and great job to goalie Ryan Elliott with nine saves!

The girls JV soccer team defeated Rock Canyon yesterday 10 – 0. Christy Hillbrand, Lauren Durkin, Amanda Wojhan and Parker Calbert each had one goal. Haley Cook, Amy Barczuk and Erin Gilmour each tallied two. Assists were given by: Amanda Wojhan, Haley Cook, Lauren Durkin, Briana Bailey and Elizabeth Croot.

Come on out to the ballpark today! Your Arapahoe Warriors will be taking on Heritage at 4 pm for a great cross town showdown right here at AHS. Chipotle has donated coupons for free burritos to fans who get to see an Arapahoe Warrior hit the first homerun of the day. Go Warriors!

Prom 2006 is coming! The dance will be held Saturday May 6th from 8pm to 11pm at Invesco Field. Tickets go on sale today April 24th and will be sold until Friday May 5th, during both lunches. Tickets are $30 per person or $35 per person at the door.

Attention all students! STATE ACT TESTING will be Wednesday, April 26 for all juniors. Testing will start promptly at 7:25 AM. Freshmen, Sophomore and Seniors will have a delayed start. Classes will start at 11:30 AM and all Wednesday classes will be held. This is a very important exam for our juniors as most colleges and universities will accept these scores for entrance if you do well. Good Luck to all juniors on Wednesday!

JV Black Lacross posted ANOTHER win against Columbine last night in the snow,12-5. Our scoring machines Daniel Dodd, Miles Lepry, Dan Curtis and Ryan Wilcox. Our big defense playing short handed Jesse Oeinck, Matt Weems, Eric Romsdahl and Jason Ahbe. A reminder mouth guards gentleman!!!!!

The Arapahoe boy's swimming and diving team will compete against Pueblo Centennial today beginning at 4:30.

Saturday, the girls JV soccer team took care of Chaparral, 8 – 0. Lauren Moelenpaugh scored four goals including a natural hat – trick. Erin Gilmour scored two and Haley Cook and Lauren Durkin rounded out the goals. Lauren
Durkin also added three assists, while Haley Cook and Briana Bailey tallied the rest. Great work ladies.

The girls gold lacrosse team had 2 great wins this Saturday over Thunder Ridge and Columbine. Scoring for the Warriers were, Kelsey Craigo, Brittany Walker, Hanna Hoopingarner, Vennessa Dopler, Aubry Pullara, Shelli Marr, Julie Sorenson, Gracy Barfoot, Rachel Epstein, Kelsey Herhold, Liz Hallinan and Dannielle Bernal. Their goalie Shaley Redmann had a total of 9 great saves! Good job Warriers!

Attention girls lacrosse – the bus will leave for the games at Mullen today at 4 pm in the West Lot. The JV will play at 5:30 followed by the Varsity at 7 pm.

The girls JV soccer team defeated Regis Friday by a score of 4 – 1. Natalie Maes, Lauren Moelenpaugh, Amy Barczuk and Haley Cook each scored. Assists were given by Haley Cook, Briana Bailey and Lauren Moelenpaugh.

The Freshman boys Lacrosse team was awarded 1st place in the Mountain Vista High School 3rd level shootout this Saturday with 3 straight wins. Their dominating performance led them to an 8-2 victory over Foothills in the first game, a tight 4-2 win in the second against Smokey Hill and a fantastic triumph in the championship match against a strong and much larger in number, Cherry Creek team. In the final game, Josh Cook led Arapahoe scoring with 2 goals, and Sean Burke, Dan Callif, Dan Cleary, Trevor Munoz, and Luke Vogel all had one goal apiece with assists from Josh Cook, and Dan Cleary. On the other end of the field, Jake Fields was remarkable in net with seven outstanding saves. The Warriors controlled nearly every other aspect of the game with overpowering stats on clears, face-offs, and ground balls. Congratulations Warriors!!

The boy's track team had another outstanding weekend at the Last Chance meet hosted by Eaglecrest High School. Congratulations to the following 3 individuals who qualified for the state meet: Travis Smith in the triple jump 44' 7 ", Dakota Palan-Johnson in the Discus 154' 2", and Adam Glenn in the 800 with a school record breaking time of 1:55.23. This week Arapahoe plays host to the rest of the league on Thursday for the freshman / Sophomore league championships. Those will begin at 3:30 so come out and support your Warriors. Boys track do not forget today is picture day.

Congratulations to Levi McEwen, David Coulter, and Matt Ambrozic for qualifying to wrestle off for Team Colorado. Levi McEwen dominated his opponents, allowing only one point to be scored on him. Freestyle practice is cancelled today.

The JV Gold girls tennis team defeated Littleton 9-3. Their record is now 8-1. JV Black girls tennis ended their season with a 5-2 win over Denver School for Science and Tech. Their record ended at 4-3.

The girl's varsity tennis team took 4th place at the Phil Krous Invitational tournament this weekend. Molly Ray, Lauren Craig, Suzanne Chang, Annie Lorenzo and Jenny Morris all took 5th place. Leisha Bryant, Lauren Stemper, Katie Maxey and Laine Pacetti all took 3rd place. The number 1 doubles team of Jenna Dornseif and Celeste Lorenzo took 2nd place. Congratulations girls for your hard work! The girls' tennis teams play Douglas County tomorrow and Chaparral on Wednesday. Come on out and support your Warriors.

General Announcements

ATTENTION GRADUATING SENIORS—Seniors who believe they will graduate with High Honors or Honors, please listen carefully. If your cumulative GPA will change this semester by falling into or below the range of 3.5 to 3.79 or by falling into the range of 3.8 or higher you will have a change of distinction at the Awards convocation and the Graduation Ceremony. Please see your counselor or Mrs. Bresloff immediately if your cumulative GPA will be affected. If you have any questions, see your counselor.

All students interested in AP Science courses do not forget that your applications are due by today. Stop into the science office to pick up your blue AP Science application.

Students interested in working in the school store next year must pick up an application from the business office or any business teacher by today! Additional reminder: You must be enrolled in a marketing course to work in the school store. Questions see Mrs. Frasier.

Congratulations to Freshmen Liana Boraas (pronounced Lee awna Bore us), Mrs. Graham’s Language Arts student, for representing AHS in the Colorado Finals of the first Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest. Held at the University of Denver Newman Center on April 18, the contest was a production of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Colorado Council on the Arts. Liana recited from memory two poems to an audience including Denver Poet Laureate Chris Ransick and Colorado Poet Laureate Mary Crow, among other notables.

Prom 2006 is coming! The dance will be held Saturday May 6th from 8pm to 11pm at Invesco Field. Tickets go on sale Monday April 24th and will be sold until Friday May 5th, during both lunches. Tickets are $30 per person or $35 per person at the door. Remember all guest forms are due Wednesday, May 3rd.

Athletics

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team continues its dominance in conference play by defeating Rangeview last night 18-1, the team would like to invite you to the game tonight against Littleton High School, where the Warriors will revenge a disappointing loss from last year and attempt to remain undefeated in conference play, the game starts at 7 pm. The Seniors would like everyone to come early, at 6:15, for Senior night, lacrosse style, come and support your senior lacrosse plays and the boys' lacrosse team. The boys lead the state in goals scored, come help them defeat Littleton.

JV Black Lacrosse came out the winner against Heritage last night in a hard fought game 11-8. Plagued by injuries, Devon and David get better. Ryan Wilcox, Chase Kovari and Michael Griffin carried the top points for the game. Michael Griffin led the team with the most ground balls.

Congratulations goes to the Warrior boy's track and field team for their victory at yesterdays Track Clash Relays. They finished first out of six teams and came in first or second in 12 out of the 17 events. Great Job and best of luck this weekend at Legacy Stadium.

Congratulations to all Technology Student Association state competitors. Arapahoe Place 3rd overall in the state. In Robotics, Bryan Douden and Nick Turner placed 3rd. Ethan Grebe and Josh Sheeran placed 3rd in Technology Challenge. In CO2 Dragster Design, Austin Darricau placed 3rd, and Steven Beech placed 2nd. Arapahoe swept Transportation modeling with Brian Ward in 3rd, Austin Darricau in 2nd, and Steven Beech took 1st. Brian Ward took 2nd in Cad Animation Engineering. Arapahoe's Chapter Team of Claire Bassett, Steven Beech, Sean Kearns, Sean Purcell, Zack Rubenstein, and Brian Ward took 2nd. In the individual Chapter Team competition Claire Bassett and Zack Rubenstein tied for 2nd place. Finally, in Structural Engineering, Ryan Elliot and Austin Darricau placed 2nd, and Claire Bassett and Nick Turner placed 1st. Great job to all TSA members!! Our next meeting will be on Monday 24 April in room E-10 after school.”

Your Arapahoe Warriors swimming and diving meet barely lost an exciting and hotly contested and meet against Regis last night by a score of 97-89. Your Warriors started off strong setting a team and pool record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.21. The record setting Warrior foursome included: Rob Newell, Nick Anderson, Chris Wiggin and Eric Anderssen. Individual event winners for the Warriors included Vinny Crispino in the 200 free and 100 free, Chris Wiggin in the 100 fly and 100 back, Eric Anderssen in the 50 free, and Nick Anderson in the 100 breast.

The Girls JV soccer team defeated Rangeview yesterday 4 – 0. Natalie Maes, Amanda Wojhan, Christy Hillbrand and Molly Law each scored a goal. Assists were given by: Natalie Maes and Haley Cook.

The Varsity girls soccer played Rangeview last night and won 5-0. Goals were scored by Meredith Monson, Suzie Sittko, Lauren Cavarra, Mary Zapapas, and Lindsey Stein.

Tournament Champions!! The JV team finished in First Place out of 17 teams at yesterday’s competition. Hannah Gushurst scored a 42 to win the tournament and Lindsey Mercier, Anny Lim and Karla Kirby contributed to the team victory with scores of 46, 47, and 54. Good luck today ladies!!

The JV Gold tennis team defeated Cherry Creek yesterday 9-2. The JV Gold record is now 6-1.

JV Black Lacrosse trounced Gateway last night 16-1. Blake Bescanson led the scoring with 3 goal while Daniel Dodd took the most shots scoring 2 goals.
Big thanks to our great Defense Devon Minshall, Matthew Weems, Jesse Oeinck, Ryan Elliott goalie supreme being backed up by Daniel Curtis.

Congratulations to Leslie McGetrick, Megan Ray and Aubrey Dreessen for playing one of their best rounds of golf yesterday at the Pinery. Leslie McGetrick had the teams best score of an 88. Megan and Aubrey both shot in the 90’s! Keep it up ladies!!

The Girls JV soccer team defeated Thunder Ridge Saturday by a sore of 6 – 0. Scoring for ABK are: Lauren Durkin, Haley Cook, Amanda Wojhan, Molly Law, Natalie Maes and Sarah Barczuk. Assists were made by: Bri Bailey, Louise Timboe, Elizabeth Croot and Christy Hillbrand. Excellent work ladies.

The Warrior Ladies Track Team came away with their biggest victory of the season on Saturday by winning the 50th Robert F. Caviness Invitational with 122.5 points. The girls competed against nineteen other teams to win this meet for the first time in the schools history. Meet champions were: Katie Monnet in both the 1600 and 3200 M. runs, Michelle Ripple breaking the meet record in the pole vault and the 1600 m. relay with Elese McClaire, Carolyn O'Dothery, Sanneke Neal and Chelsea Chen. Keep up the great effort ladies.

This is a reminder to the girl’s varsity and JV tennis teams, we will meet the bus to Cherry Creek today at 2:30 pm out at the AHS courts. Please be prompt.

The Arapahoe boy's swimming and diving team placed first at the Mountain View Invitational on Saturday. Leading the way for the Warriors were the following event winners: Rob Newell, Nick Anderson, Chris Wiggin and Vinny Crispino won the 200 Medley relay. Chris Wiggin set a meet record of 51.61 to win the 100 fly and Dave Baugh, Brock Logan, Skylar Schaffer and Vinny Crispino placed first in the 200 free relay. Finally, Nick Anderson, Rob Newell, Skylar Schaffer and Brock Logan won the 400 free relay. Please support our Warrior swimmers and divers Tuesday at 4 PM. The girls Black Lacrosse team annihilated Wheat Ridge, 13-2 and Thunder Ridge 22-0 on Saturday. Scoring for the Warriors are: Leanne Chung, Kathryn Igo, Aly Day, Emma VanVranken, Kelli Shroder, Jordan Faesler, Maggie Takacs, Britany Misagdis, and Becky Baltakis. Black team will play today at 4 pm at Newton!

Congratulations to the varsity boys track team on their outstanding performance at this weekend Robert F. Caviness Invitational Track and Field meet. The boy's placed second out of 19 teams and in doing so beat some of the best teams in the state. Your warriors were led by first place finishers Dakota Palan-Johnson in the discus and Mac Nelson in the pole vault. Adam Glenn finished in second place in the 800m run and turned in one of the states best times 1.57.33. Your warriors will be in action again right here at Arapahoe high school this Wednesday when they play host to 6 other teams for the Track Clash Relays. That meet will start at 3:30 so come out and show your support.

Beginning in the fall of 2006, Mandarin Chinese I will be offered. It will primarily consist of learning about the culture of China. The speaking portion of the language will be taught at a basic level and will include common expressions and useful dialogues. Basic writing and listening skills will also be addressed. The Girls Varsity soccer team beat Ponderosa last night with a score of 3-0. Scoring for the Warriors were Lindsay Stein and Mary Zapapas. The girls look to take on Thunder Ridge tomorrow at 11.

The girl’s varsity tennis team lost to Heritage yesterday by a score of 1-6. All of the matches were close and the girls put up a good fight.
The lone winner for Arapahoe was our #3 singles player, Suzanne Chang.
Tomorrow, the Warriors go up against a strong field of teams at the Phil Krouse Invitational at City Park. Please wish your Warriors good luck!

The Arapahoe Girl's Non-Varsity track team won their meet yesterday by over a 100 point margin verses Heritage, Mountain Vista and Rock Canyon.
Out of the nineteen events, they won fifteen. First place finishers in the open events were: Marie Paul 100 and 300 hurdles, Devo Holland 100 m.

Come Audition for the 2006/2007 Arapahoe Colorguard. We are an award winning and very competitive team that has a fun family-like atmosphere! This week in your social studies classes your teachers will be passing out a survey and if you want your data to appear in the May issue, fill out the survey and return it to room E8 by April 18th. Athletics

On Monday of this week, the girl’s varsity tennis team lost a close match to Regis by a score of 3-4. Winning for the Warriors were: Molly Ray; Suzanne Chang; Annie Lorenzo and Jenny Morris. On Tuesday of this week the girl’s varsity tennis team beat Rangeview by a score of 7-0. Winning for the Warriors were: Molly Ray; Lauren Craig; Suzanne Chang; Jenna Dornseif and Celeste Lorenzo; Leisha Bryant and Lauren Stemper; Katie Maxey and Laine Pacetti; Annie Lorenzo and Jenny Morris. Come over to Heritage today to see your Lady Warrior Tennis team battle the Eagles.

Congratulations to the girls JV golf team on their 3rd place finish in the tournament on Tuesday. The team was led by Karla Kirby with a high score of 47. Anny Lim, Michelle Gutknecht and Carrie Barker also contributed to the teams success.

The girls Varsity also did a great job in the league tournament on Tuesday. Leslie McGetrick led the team with a score of 89 and Megan Ray and Larissa Hennemann both had low scores in the 90's. Way to go Ladies!!

Attention National Honor Society Juniors and sophomores with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Please see Mrs. Lobser in the Enrichment Room this week if you are interested in being trained to become an Academic Peer Coach for next year.

Beginning in the fall of 2006, Mandarin Chinese I will be offered. It will primarily consist of learning about the culture of China. The speaking portion of the language will be taught at a basic level and will include common expressions and useful dialogues. Basic writing and listening skills will also be addressed. The class will be small and is by audition only. If interested, please contact Mrs. Condon.

Congratulations to Junior, Lead Jazz Trumpeter, Colton Crandell, for being selected to the prestigious Mile High Jazz Festival All Star Jazz Band. This July he will perform on a KUVO Radio Show and at the CBA Summer Convention. Congratulations Colton!

Congratulations to the JV Lady Warrior Laxchicks for their 15-3 victory over Douglas County on Tuesday afternoon. Lisa Richardson, Emily Fiske and Diana Hentschel each had three goals, with Courtney Jones, Kelsey Gibbons, Marissa Adelstein, Karlee Bobzien, Katie Phenix and Chantal Bouveron each scored a goal apiece in the victory. Good luck to the JV Lady Warriors in their upcoming game against Kent on Friday.

The girls JV soccer team squeaked by Highlands Ranch yesterday 1 – 0. Amanda Wojhan scored the lone goal with an assist by Lauren Durkin.

Last night the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team defeated Douglas County by a score of 19-8. Scoring for Arapahoe were Kristen Hosek 5 Goals; Adison Rounds 4 Goals, 1 Assist; Chloe Adelmann 2 Goals, 1 Assist; Kate Spring 2 Goals, 1 Assist; Channing Ahbe 2 Goals; Katie Gerhard 2 Goals; Stacey Birlson 1 Goal, 1 Assist; and Alex Stoicoff 1 Goal, 1 Assist. Nice work, Ladies.

High scores from the team came from Christine Decker and Aubrey Dreessen who both had scores in the 90’s. Jenna Hennemann and Megan Ray also contributed greatly to their outstanding finish. Good luck today to the Varsity and JV teams!

The girls gold lacrosse team had a terrific victory over Smoky Hill on Monday with a score of 8 to 6. scoring for the Warriors were:

JV Lacrosse Black Team won another decisive victory over Ft Collins last night with 7 goal, three of those scored by Paul Komatz with a great assist by Eric Romsdahl. Goalie Ryan Elliot only let in 2 goals for Ft Collins. Congrats to our freshman who played outstanding ball Michael Griffin, Philip Englert and Beansie! Augie get better quick!!

Great Job AHS girls black Lacrosse team on your victorys against Kent Denver, 8-6 and Columbine 16-1. Scoring for the Warriors in both games were: Jordan Faessler, Emma Van Vranken, Brittany Misagadis, Ally Day, Katherine Igo, Maggie Westhoff, Maggie Takacs, Katie Graul, Amy Lingred, Ally Harden and Sarah Smith. The Black team is still undefeated!!
