General Announcements

Hey Warriors! Do you have a large supply of spirit and energy, and a desire to represent YOUR school?! If so, you may be just the person to join one of the Arapahoe High School Cheerleading Teams. Please plan to attend a MANDATORY Parent-Athlete meeting today, March 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the Forum. This is the only meeting, so if you plan to try out, you must attend. See Ms. Pramenko in the main office if you have any questions.

Seniors: Metro State College is hosting an Open House on Saturday, April 1st from 10AM to 2PM. This is a great opportunity to explore the Auroria campus and get your questions answered. For more information, come to the Post Grad Center.

The Denver Zoo is hosting its 6th annual High School Career Day on Saturday, April 22. This is wonderful opportunity for students to learn about careers for zoo professionals. For more information, come to the Post Grad Center.

Hey Arapahoe our 5th Annual Wish Week is coming soon! Arapahoe is partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make Carissa's dream of going on a Disney Cruise, and Rachel's dream of going to Hawaii come true. All the fun will last from April 3-April 7 and there will be lots of exciting ways to get involved. The CU Buffoons will be performing on Monday April 3 at 7pm in the auditorium. Also the Senior v. Faculty Basketball game is Thursday April 6 at 7pm in the gym with an extraordinary half-time show featuring the Special Olympics Basketball team v. the Faculty! Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults and will be on sale during the week of March 20! So be sure to gear up.

If you're a senior and are interested in a chance to play in the Wish Week Senior vs. Faculty basketball game, see Mr. Holman in the Math Office as soon as possible for more information.

There will be a lost and found table in the cafeteria this week. Please check the table to see if anything belongs to you.

The South Metro Regional Destination ImagiNation competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 25. The following students will represent Arapahoe: Matt DeDionisio, Alexandra Hall, Elliott Quant-Larkins, Keely Quinn, Sean Rohde, Janie Williamson, Katie Evans, Matt Evans, Carla Carroll, Amanda Lay and William Ho. Good luck to our DI teams!

Students who took the Practice SAT on Sat, 3/11, the feedback session is TONIGHT, Wednesday, from 7-8:30 in the cafeteria. Your test booklets and answer sheets will be returned and there will be discussion of test taking strategies.

Attention all baseball fans! Come support your varsity team as they take on Ponderosa at Coors Field, this Friday, March 24th. It’s free and a great experience for everybody. Talk to Nathaniel Weems, Scott Case, or Luke Hardcastle or stop by the table in the cafeteria at lunch if you want tickets. There will be a bus for anybody who wants to ride on it. It only costs two dollars. Sign up at lunch in the cafeteria if you would like to ride. The bus will be back at the school by 7pm. We’d love to see everybody out there!

Attention all girls basketball players. If you are interested in playing in the JAM league this spring and summer please get a hold of Ms. Korn THIS week in the math office!

The Arapahoe Warriors won the 39th annual Arapahoe swimming and diving relay championships Saturday. Placing first in relays were Nick Anderson, Dave Baugh, Ian Francis and Vinny Crispino in the 200 Breast stroke relay. Rob Newel, Nick Anderson, Ian Francis and Dave Baugh in the 400 Individual Medley Relay. Lars Baugh, Andy Cozzette, Vinny Crispino, Skyler Schaffer and Brady Smith in the 1000 Cresendo Relay. Finally, Cory Reidel and Eric Wallace placed first in the diving relay.

The Arapahoe girls track team won their first Invitational meet this past weekend at the Cherry Creek Relays with a score of 118 points to 73 point by second place Seirra. The first place pole vaulting team of Michelle Ripple, Maura Hurley, Emily Zeis and Jordon Youngblade broke a school record with a total of 32 feet. Congratulation to them and the 1600 meter relay team of Elese McClaire, Sanneke Neal, Carolyn O'Doherty and Chelsea Chen for running the fastest time in the state in this event. Great job Ladies Warriors.
Also our Non-Varsity team won again with a score of 107.5 point over second place Highlands Ranch's 32 points and Mountain Vista's 31 points.
Great meet ladies.

Attention Varsity Girls’ Soccer: There will be no game today and we will have no practice today. Practice will be as usual tomorrow.

Sophomores, and Juniors:
President's Leadership Class at the University of Colorado-Boulder is holding its annual Colorado Leadership Conference on April 21-23. We are looking for Sophomore and Junior high school students to attend our conference. The conference consists of workshops, guest speakers and social activities that the PLC first and second year classes put together and run. If you have any questions involving this conference please feel free to e-mail me at mitchell.hanson@colorado.edu or you can call the staff member in charge of the conference, Ryan Findley, at (303) 735-2577.

Congratulations to the Warrior Marching Band's newly selected 2006-07 Drum Majors - Juniors, Ellie Carley and Laura Liljegren!! Also congratulations to Junior, Will Gamache for being selected as our alternate drum major!

Congratulations to Winter Percussion Ensemble for placing 1st in prelims and finals at Saturday's Northglenn Percussion Competition!! Arapahoe had the highest score for the day out of 21 units - 90.4 points, which is a box 5, superior score!!!

Congratulations to Winter Guard for placing second at Saturday's Dakota Ridge Competition! Arapahoe scored an 83.5, which put them just 2.8 points out of 1st place!! Way to go ladies!!!

GIRLS GOLF practice and tournaments are cancelled for today.

Congratulations to the JV Girls' Lax Team for their 8-0 victory on Saturday against Thunder Ridge! Scoring for the Lady Warriors were Katie Gunning with 1 goal, Erin O'Brien with 1 goal, Marissa Adelstein with 1 goal, Jen Fezler with 2 goals and Lisa Richardson with 3 goals. Lindsey Mast had 3 saves in goal! The JV Lady Warriors are now 4-0 on the season. Good luck this week against Cherry Creek and Littleton/Heritage!

The Girls Black Lacrosse team defeated Denver East 15-2, and Smokey Hill 9-3 on Saturday. Scoring for the Warriors were Katherine Igo, Jordan Faesler, Leanne Chung, Emma VanVranken, Brittany Misegadis, Sammantha Shoemaker, and Becky Baltakis. Good job ladies, great defense. Ahoy Black team.

Congratulations to the boy’s track and field team on their second place finish at the Cherry Creek Relays this past weekend. Outstanding performances were turned in by Dylan Pierpoint with a personal best 5'10" jump in the high jump and Mac Nelson cleared a personel best in the pole vault clearing 11"0. Great job to everyone that competed. The best of luck this weekend in Fort Collins. There will be practice today! Check by the coach’s office after school for details.

All spring sports games and matches that were to be held today have been cancelled. This includes baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and golf.

Athletics

Your Arapahoe boys swimming and diving team beat Littleton last night by a score of 110-76 for varsity and 90-63 for JV. Qualifying for state included Brock Logan in the 200 IM and 100 free, Vinny Crispino in the 500 free, Nick Anderson in the 100 breast, Rob Newell in the 100 fly and Cory Riedel in diving. State qualifiers against Douglas County and Cherry Creek last week were Ian Francis in the 100 breast and Skyler Schaffer in the 50 free. Come out and support your Warriors at home this Saturday at the 39th annual Arapahoe relays. Diving begins at 8:30 AM while the swimming relays begins at 12 noon

Attention Sophomores: Sophomores are NOT allowed to park on the school campus for any reason. This is also true during the CSAP testing.

The Muse staff would like to remind students whose work was published in this year’s edition to pick up your free copy from Mr. Miles in the Language Arts office. Muse staff, remember we have a very important meeting today. We want to thank everyone, celebrate our accomplishment, and talk about what we still need to do this Spring. Come munch on some goodies this Wednesday and help us finish up!

Attention National Honor Society Members!! Juniors who are interested in becoming an NHS officer for next year should attend a short meeting scheduled for Today after school in room E-11. If you are unable to attend, please see one of the current NHS officers.

Attention Mathematicians! We are third place and only one point behind Cherry Creek High School in the Colorado Math League Competition. Please do your very best on the next CML! Go Arapahoe!!

Student Council Members and officers! Our meeting has been changed to Friday, March 17 at 6:45am.

Be sure to come Thursday night and enjoy a wonderful evening of music with our small ensembles, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble! The band concert will be held in the theatre with the main performance starting at 7pm. The concert is free, and will feature the very talented senior trumpeter, Bobby Cassara, performing a movement of the famous Haydn Trumpet Concerto. A second, equally talented, senior horn musician, Katie Dwyer, will perform a movement from the Second Mozart Horn Concerto. Don't miss it!

Athletics
Congratulations to the Varsity baseball team who beat number 3 ranked Columbine yesterday 3 to 1. The Warriors were led by great hitting from Cody Scott who hit a two run double and Payton Turner who hit a solo homerun. Nathaniel Weems threw a stellar game and got some great defensive help from Scott Case. Come support your Warriors as they take on second ranked Monarch at home on Saturday at 11 am.

The JV boys baseball game that was scheduled for today against Columbine has been cancelled. The game will be played on Friday, March 17th at Columbine. Game time is set at 3:45.

The girls JV lacrosse game that was scheduled for today against Air Academy has been cancelled. The varsity girls will still play at 4 pm at Newton Middle School.

“Attention all girl’s varsity and junior varsity tennis players: Everyone should meet at the Arapahoe courts today for team pictures. Please wear your team uniform and meet at the courts no later than 3 pm.”

The Arapahoe Boys Swimming and Diving team defeated Douglas County last night with a score of 93 to 87. The Warriors were led by Jeff Treftz who won the 200 an 500 freestyle, Ian Francis who won the 200 I.M. and the !00 Breast With a state qualifying time of 1:04.93. Finally, Aaron Kayan won the 100 backstroke. Come support the Warriors this weekend at the Cherry Creek Pentathlon, Saturday at 9:00.

Are you a typing whiz and good with Word, PowerPoint and Excel and haven't taken ICA yet? The ICA Proficiency Exam is being offered Tuesday, March 14th from 2:30 - 4:00 after school in Rooms S2 and S3. If you pass this exam, you will be able to enroll in Computer Apps 1 next year instead of ICA. Don't miss this important opportunity - stop by the Business Department if you have any questions!

Congratulations to all members of our Jazz Bands and Combo for achieving Superior Ratings at last Thursday's Mile High Jazz Festival! Arapahoe jazz musicians were awarded 31 outstanding musicianship certificates!! This was the best showing ever for our jazz program at the Mile High Jazz Festival!!! Way to go jazzers!!!!


Congratulations to all members of the Winter Percussion Ensemble who performed at Saturday's Legacy Competition. Arapahoe placed first with a contest high 88.1 points! Way to go Winter Percussion Ensemble!!

Congratulations to all members of the Winter Guard for placing second at Saturday's Rampart Competition! The Arapahoe Winter Guard scored a season high 80.7 points - this is a box 4 excellent category level!! Way to go ladies!!!

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Lady Warriors Lacrosse team for winning their opening game against East on Friday by a score of 3-2. Scoring for the Lady Warriors was Marissa Adelstein with 2 goals, Emily Fiske with 1 goal, and Jen Fezler with 1 assist.

Girls Golf will meet in room S8for practice today.

General Announcements

Attention all students: Due to CSAP testing in the library we will not be open for student use on March 14th, 15th and 16th until 12:30. Students will not be allowed in for any reason. This will be in effect Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Attention Sophomores: Sophomores are NOT allowed to park on the school campus for any reason. This is also true during the CSAP testing days, March 14-16.

Come join the Arapahoe Rescue Organization. This is the only organization in the nation run entirely by youth for search and rescue. We assist the Arapahoe County Sheriff Department and the Littleton Fire Department. We will be meeting Friday, March 10, 2006 during 4th hour, 10:30am to 12:10pm in the Forum at AHS. Attention all students: Due to CSAP testing in the library we will not be open for student use on March 14th, 15th and 16th until 12:30. Students will not be allowed in for any reason. This will be in effect Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Are you a typing whiz and good with Word, PowerPoint and Excel and haven't taken ICA yet? The ICA Proficiency Exam is being offered today, March 9th and next Tuesday, March 14th from 2:30 - 4:00 after school in Rooms S2 and S3. If you pass this exam, you will be able to enroll in Computer Apps 1 next year instead of ICA. Don't miss this important opportunity - stop by the Business Department if you have any questions!

Join us tonight for the Choir and Orchestra Concert in the theater. The music begins at 7:00 and the Arapahoe Singers, Orchestra, Choralettes and Concert Choir will be performing. Hope to see you there!

Attention Sophomores: Sophomores are NOT allowed to park on the school campus for any reason. This is also true during the CSAP testing days, March 14-16.

The Girl's Varsity tennis team opened their season in a big way yesterday defeating ThunderRidge 6-1. Winning for the varsity were: Lauren Craig; Suzanne Chang; Jenna Dornseif and Celeste Lorenzo; Leisha Bryant and Lauren Stemper; Katie Maxey and Laine Pacetti; Annie Lorenzo and Jenny Morris. We will host Regis tomorrow at the Arapahoe courts. Please come out and support your Lady Warrior tennis team.

They would like to invite you to an upcoming event for high school women. Friday, March 10, 2006, is Discover Engineering Day at CU at the CU-Boulder campus. Students will learn about engineering applications while being immersed in campus life.

Congratulations to the World Affairs Challenge team who took 4th in this year’s state competition. Nick Sebesta got 1st place in the global affairs challenge quiz with a perfect score!

Congratulations FBLA! Good Job on Friday at Districts. We have 12 state qualifiers and 22 more that made top ten. We will have a meeting after school today to talk about Friday so stop by. Again. Good Job.

Congratulations to the speech competitors At State Speech and Debate Qualifiers! Qualifying for the State tournament is Maryn Lewallen in International Extemporaneous Speaking and Justin Lambert, first alternate in National Extemporaneous Speaking. Shamita Punjabi was named fifth alternate in humorous interpretation.

Congratulations to the winners of the University of Northern Colorado's Mathematics Contest. The second round was held on the Greeley Campus in January and Arapahoe is proud to announce that Spencer Zepelin placed second in the state of Colorado! Sean Egan placed 5th and Claire Bassett earned an Honorable Mention. Great job Arapahoe!!

Yearbook and Team pictures will be taken Tuesday, March 7 immediately after school here at Arapahoe.

Congratulations to all members of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble who performed at last Thursday's CBA State Qualifying Metro Concert Band Festival. Wind Ensemble got close to a perfect score with a very high Superior Rating! They will advance to the State Festival. Symphonic Band received a very high Excellent Rating and will have a chance to advance to the final 18 bands at the state level. State seedings will be announced on Wednesday. Concert Band also had a nice performance, resulting in a good rating. Congratulations to all you band musicians!!

Congratulations to the Winter Percussion Ensemble for placing 1st at Saturday's WGI Regional Competition. This took place at Northglenn HS, with Arapahoe scoring an Excellent Box 4 Score of 82.6! Congratulations Winter Percussion Musicians!!

Also, Congratulations to the Winter Guard for placing 2nd at Saturday's WGI Regional Competition. This took place at Legacy HS, with Arapahoe scoring 76 points! Congratulations Ladies!!

The cast and crew of Arapahoe’s upcoming performance of the Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, are looking for a poster design! See the Theater Department for poster criteria. Submit your ideas to Mr. Earley in the drama department by 3:00 pm this Thursday, March 2nd!

Attention NHS Members! The next NHS meeting is scheduled for today, after school in the Forum. We will discuss the NHS fundraiser idea and plan for elections of officers for next year. Please plan to attend this short, informative and important meeting.

Good luck to all members of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble who will be performing at the CBA Metro State Concert Band Qualifying Festival at Denver School of the Arts tomorrow. The top 18 Colorado high school bands will advance to State, to be held at Pikes Peak Performing Arts Center in Colorado Springs on April 24th.

Interp competitors at the State Qualifying tournament in Speech need to turn in their interp pieces to Ms. Graham as soon as possible!

Tonight’s the night! Your Arapahoe Warriors boys’ basketball team will challenge Aurora Central to a battle tonight at 8:45 at the Manual High School Thunderdome. The girl’s team will take on the Eagles of Heritage tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm. They will also be playing at the Manual High School Thunderdome. Good luck WARRIORS!!!

There will be a spirit bus going to the boys’ basketball game at Manual High School tomorrow night. The bus will leave from the West Lot of school at 7:45 pm. There is no cost for this transportation so come on out and support our mighty warriors!”

Attention all Girls Lacrosse Players--There will be a MANDATORY meeting Monday, March 6 in the Forum at 6:30. This is for all Coaches, Players, and at least 1 parent for each player. There will be a general meeting at 6:30. There will be a lot of information given out that everyone needs to know. At 7:00 players and their parents will break out into separate meetings with the coaches for their specific team. Individual coaches will outline their plans for the season. At the meeting players will receive information about fundraising projects, and they will also receive picture order forms. Yearbook and Team pictures will be taken at 2:30 on Tuesday, March 7 at the high school. Parents need to be ready to volunteer for various duties for their player's specific team. We look forward to seeing EVERYONE on Monday at 6:30 in the Forum.
