General Announcements

Pick Up Your School Pictures! If you ordered a package, you may pick it up during 1st or 2nd lunch on Tuesday in the East Hallway.

Attention juniors and seniors: If you received a letter inviting you to apply for National Honor Society, be sure to attend one informational meeting, either before or after school on either Wednesday, October 1 or Thursday, October 2 in room C-13. If you cannot attend one of these meetings, see Mr. Sale or Ms. Gaffney in the Language Arts office.

Attention National Honor Society members: Be sure to check the NHS web page for important info about upcoming volunteer opportunities and next week’s blood drive. We are still looking for helpers for the blood drive. Our next meeting is October 8.

Attention all Juniors! The PSAT is on October 15th at 7:15 am. Please go the Guidance Center to sign up for the PSAT. Bring $20 and your student ID. The last day to register is October 10th. Prepare for your future.

Athletics

There will be a Boys Basketball Booster Club meeting on Wednesday, October 1st at 7 pm in room E9. We will be discussing plans for the upcoming season.

This Thursday, Oct. 2, the Boys Lacrosse Club will have its first meeting at 7 pm in the Forum. The Informational Meeting is for the players and their parents. Families will meet the new coaches and learn about the program. Clothing will be available to size and orders made. Most importantly, the framework of the only fund raiser will be presented.

Any boys interested in being a partner for the Special Olympics basketball team, please stop by and pick up a yellow information sheet in S6.

Congratulations to the Warrior Marching Band for placing 1st in 5A at Saturday’s CSU Marching Band Showcase! This was the band’s first competition of the year – way to go guys!!

Juniors and seniors are invited to sign up for the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This test is an excellent vehicle for exploring your interests and career options. All students seeking a military academy nomination from Tom Tancredo’s office (6th District of Colorado) MUST complete the ASVAB. AHS will be offering the ASVAB on Thursday, October 2, at 2:45pm in N2/N3. Please see Mrs. Oeinck in Guidance to sign up.

Hello future sportscasters! Today is your chance to live your dream. Come try out to be an announcer for the 2008 DECA Dodgeball Tournament. Tryouts will be held today at 2:20 in S1.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program, fall academy will begin Saturday, October 18th for six consecutive Saturdays. Law Enforcement Explorers are young men and women ages 14-20 interested in law enforcement as a career. Many Explorers successfully completing the academy are eligible to work in all areas of the Sheriff’s Office to include patrol, detentions, crime lab, dispatch, and investigations. A representative from the Sheriff’s Office will be here Monday, September 29th during lunch periods in the cafeteria. If you have any questions regarding the program please contact AHS School Resource Office Deputy Englert.

Happy Homecoming Friday, Warriors! All Hail Arapahoe! Watch the Parade tomorrow morning at 10:00 am starting at the west parking lot. Then get your groove on at the dance from 8-11 pm in the Large Gym. Today is your last chance to buy HC Dance tickets for only $10. They'll be $15 at the door. You MUST have your student ID for entrance to the dance. Tonight is the legendary Homecoming Football game at LPS stadium. Be there by 7:00 pm and let's rock our team to victory! The parking lot fills up quickly so leave early and carpool if you can. Warriors, please have a blast but remember to BE SAFE this weekend!!!

The Toms have spirit! We are selling "spirit pops" in the cafeteria today during lunch. Each of these gourmet lollipops has an Arapahoe team spirit message and they're a steal at one for 75 cents or 2 for a dollar. Come support the Toms and get your spirit!

Attention all FCCLA members: This is a reminder that if you are planning to participate in the homecoming parade tomorrow morning please be in the west parking lot by 9:15 a.m. in costume with a bag of candy. Please park in the east lot and walk to the west lot for the parade. Please see Mrs. Rains today if you have questions.

Sophomores, bring candy to Mrs. Melin’s office for the parade, and remember to meet in the west parking lot on Saturday at 9 am and wear your Transformer shirts. Each fall military recruiting officers request information from Littleton Public Schools for 11th and 12th grade students. If you do not want your information shared with the military, a military opt-out form needs to be completed by September 26, 2008. Please see Mrs. Oeinck in the Guidance Office for the opt-out form.

Congratulations to the Boys Freshman/Sophomore Soccer team who defeated Cherry Creek 2-1; to the Boys JV Soccer team who defeated Overland 4-0; and to the Boys Varsity soccer team who defeated Overland 5 – 1.

Please come out tonight to support your Warrior Varsity Football team versus the Cherry Creek Bruins at 7 PM. Football tickets for the Homecoming game are on sale in the cafeteria today from 10:30 am to 12:15 pm. Arapahoe student SBA cards will be accepted at the game. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students grades K-12.

On Saturday morning come out to Cherry Creek High School to cheer on the Freshman Warrior Football team at 9 AM then stay to support the Junior Varsity Football team play Cherry Creek at 11:30 AM.

Attention any athlete not involved in a Fall, CHSSA sanctioned sport. You need to remove any items that are located in the varsity boy’s locker room. We are in need of the space and on Friday, September 26th, in the afternoon, locks and items will be removed from lockers not in use by a Fall athlete. Thanks

Congratulations to the sophomore volleyball team for their impressive homecoming win last night. They beat Grandview 25 to 11 and 25 to 14 to bring their overall record to 10 wins and 2 losses.

The boy’s varsity tennis team defeated Overland yesterday by a score of 6-1. This improves our record to 5 wins and only 2 losses. Come out to the AHS courts on Thursday to cheer on your tennis team as they go up against Eaglecrest.

Spanish club will be meeting after school today at 2:30 in C-21. We will be taking member roll for the school year and planning our next club event. In order to participate in our fun Spanish club activities, you must be a club member. Sign up now so you don’t miss out! If you can’t make it, see Ms. DiSepio for more details. Viva espanol!

Hey freshmen! Today is the Homecoming t-shirt decorating party. Meet right after school in the cafeteria to decorate your homecoming t-shirts for the pep assembly on Friday. Decorating materials will be provided but you must bring your own shirt. Shirts can be bought during lunch or at the party. So come and show your school spirit. Snacks will be served.

Homecoming Dance Guest forms can be picked up in the Attendance/Activities Office. Only Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are allowed to bring guests from other schools. All guests must currently be in high school or under the age of 21. All forms are due back to the Activities Office by Thursday, September 25.

BAM! POW! SWOOSH! Happy HOMECOMING week!!!! Warriors, it's prep time for an extra-strength epic Homecoming! Remember, each class receives points for participation for dress up themes and spirit activities. Informative posters are located on the bulletin boards throughout the school so stay updated and involved. We expect all of you to join in with the good times.

Congratulations to the Freshman Football team for their exciting 14 to 13 victory over Thunder Ridge on Friday. The team’s 4th quarter heroics helped propel them to a 3 and 1 record. Our next game will be Saturday morning at Cherry Creek kickoff is at 9:00 AM.

Attention National Honor Society members: If you would like to earn a service hour, plan to help stuff envelopes for new member invitations sometime today. Attention sophomores: Did you have Ms. Price for US History last year? If so, please do not forget to submit the book titles for the What Warriors Read campaign. You can email the titles to her or write them down and leave them on her desk. Thanks for your help in compiling the list.

It’s finally here. The day you’ve all been waiting for. Dodgeball registration packets are now available. Packets may be picked up in the Business Office beginning today. Only 20 teams will be allowed in this year’s tournament. Don’t miss out. Pick-up your packet today!

Congrats to Warrior Volleyball for their sweep of Smoky Hill last night. Freshman A, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity were all victorious over the Buffs. They take on Overland tomorrow night at home, with games at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:30. Come on out and support the team!

The boy’s varsity tennis team defeated Cherokee Trail last night by a score of 6-1. Congratulations guys. Come over to Heritage today to support your varsity tennis team. The JV team plays at Powell and AHS.

Boys’ JV tennis played 7 matches against Cherokee Trail yesterday and won all 7. That takes their overall record to 34-18. Come cheer on the guys as they take on Heritage today at the Arapahoe Tennis Courts.

The Swimming and Diving Team will be having their Sign Up Night tonight starting at 6 PM in the cafeteria. For all newly interested swimmers/divers, please come first to an informational meeting at 6 PM in the small theatre with Coach Richmond.

The sophomore volleyball team improved their record to 7 and 2 overall and finished in 2nd place at the Heritage tournament on Saturday. Special congratulations to Reann Langas and Lora Reardon for being selected to the All-Tournament Team. Great job ladies.

Congratulations to the Boys Fresh/Soph Soccer team as they beat Cherokee Trail 8-2. The team remains undefeated with 5 wins. They play at Grandview on Wednesday and Friday, 4:00 p.m. at AHS against Heritage. Go Warriors!

Congratulations to the Freshman Football Team for their exciting 21-20 win over Overland on Saturday. The Team rallied with 3 4th quarter touchdowns to secure the victory. The Freshman team record is now 2and1 with their next game here at AHS on Friday at 4:00 against Thunder Ridge. Come out and support these warriors.

The JV football team is now 3 and 0 after their 19 to 6 victory over Overland High School. This week the Warriors will face ThunderRidge High School. Good Luck!

Varsity Volleyball improved to 6 – 3 overall after a convincing win in three games against Arvada West on Friday night. Saturday, they earned a top five finish at the Eaglecrest Tournament. The Warriors won their second pool, losing only to top ranked Colorado Springs Christian. Congrats on a great day! Volleyball plays at Smoky Hill tomorrow at 6:30 and at home against Overland at 6:30 on Thursday. Come on out and support the team!

Congratulations to the JV softball team for an amazing come from behind win yesterday against Douglas County. The Lady Warriors were trailing the entire game until the last inning when the bats came alive and the girls rallied to victory. The Warriors defeated the Huskies by a score of 9 to 8. Good job ladies. Way to fight back!

Please take advantage of this opportunity by signing up in Naviance for colleges and then picking up a blue pass in the Guidance/Post Grad Center. Please limit visits during classes to 3. You may come to as many visits as you like during unscheduled hours. College visits begin on Tuesday, September 9, but most are scheduled the week of September 29.

Our Arapahoe Warriors Cheers had a great showing at their first competition of the year this past Saturday at Elitch Gardens’ Spirit Fest. The JV team took second place in their division, and two of our Varsity Stunt Groups took first and second place in The Varsity Stunt Division. Thank you to all of you who came to support the Cheers on Saturday!

Hey all you community service lovers, Key Club is having our first meeting on Monday, September 8th, right after school in room C16. We will be discussing the new service projects for this year and we hope everyone can be there!

It's time to rev up for TSA. Congratulations to Arapahoe TSA for taking a 1st place win in Technology Bowl competition this summer at the TSA National Conference in Orlando, Fl. The AHS team also took a 3rd place in Animatronics, and 6th in Electronic Research and Experimentation. Also, there will be a brief TSA Officers meeting Monday after school in E10 for any student interested in becoming a TSA officer for this 2008/09 school year!

For any Junior or Senior athlete who is planning on playing Division I or II athletics there will be a meeting on Thursday, September 11 during either lunch in the Forum to go over the changes in NCAA eligibility for 2008. Please sign up in the Guidance Center and we will print an eligibility transcript for you to work through at this session in order to check your eligibility. The signup sheet will be on Mr. Bast’s door in the Guidance Center. See you on Thursday and bring a pencil.

Seniors and Juniors: It’s Fall College Visit Season! Each fall, Arapahoe welcomes a large number of college representatives. Please take advantage of this opportunity by signing up in Naviance for colleges and then picking up a blue pass in the Guidance/Post Grad Center. Please limit visits during classes to 3. You may come to as many visits as you like during unscheduled hours. College visits begin on Tuesday, September 9, but most are scheduled the week of September 29.

Those interested in working behind the scenes on the Fall play please check callboard in the Theatre hallway. If you would like to interview for crew chief positions see Mr. Earley to set up an interview time ASAP.

Homecoming Dance Guest forms can be picked up in the Attendance/Activities Office. Only Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are allowed to bring guests from other schools. All guests must currently be in High School or under the age of 21.

Athletics

The Boy’s Varsity Tennis team defeated Grandview yesterday by a score of 5-2. Congratulations guys! Come out to the AHS tennis courts next Tuesday when we host Cherry Creek.

The JV Boys Tennis team played against Grandview yesterday and won their 2nd match of the season by winning 11 of 13 matches. Come and watch these guys compete against Cherry Creek on Tuesday. Congrats fellas!

Congratulations to the Girls’ Varsity Softball team on winning their 4th game of the season. The Lady Warriors defeated Rock Canyon by a score of 11-1. Come cheer on the team Monday at DeKoevend Park as they take on Douglas County and try to continue their winning ways.

Congratulations to the JV Softball team for defeating Rock Canyon yesterday. The final score was 21 to 1. Excellent offense led the Lady Warriors to victory. Come support your Lady Warriors on Monday. They will be facing Douglas County at 4:00 at the Arapahoe softball field. Good Luck Ladies!

Congratulations to the Freshman B Volleyball team in their win at Chaparral last night. Way to go Warriors!

Congrats to the Boys Varsity Soccer team as they defeated Douglas County 3 – 1 last night. The boys will play Palmer tomorrow at 11:00 at LPS Stadium.

Congrats to Warrior Volleyball for their sweep last night against Rock Canyon. All five teams...Fresh A, Fresh B, Soph, JV, and Varsity were victorious. Attention Seniors: If you are 18 years of age, or will be by Election Day – November 4, you are eligible to vote in this year’s Presidential election. Please stop by the table outside of the Guidance Office today during the lunch periods. Bring your driver’s license with you, see Mr. Booth’s secretary at the table to register and exercise your right to vote!

Arapahoe’s Magazine of Arts and Literature, the Muse, will be meeting after school TODAY, in the art room, E-11. We’re still open to new members coming, and we’re looking forward to meeting you. We will announce leadership positions and start dreaming up ideas for this year’s magazine. Come and join the Muse team in E-11 today!

Each fall military recruiting officers request information from Littleton Public Schools for 11th and 12th grade students. If you do not want your information shared with the military, a military opt-out form needs to be completed by September 26, 2008. Please see Mrs. Oeinck in the Guidance Office for the opt-out form.

Hey potential FCCLA officers! This is just a reminder that officer applications are due to Mrs. Rains today! Please turn them in by 2:30 this afternoon so officer positions can be filled and announced at our first meeting on September 15th. Please see Mrs. Rains if you have any questions.

Hey Habitat for Humanity members, we are having a meeting today right after school in room C18. We will be having cake to celebrate our first meeting. Hope to see you there!

The JV football team won their first football game against Eaglecrest by the score 24 – 8. This week they will be at Regis on Saturday. Good luck!

Congratulations to the golfers for finishing 1st place in the Centennial League tournament at Murphy Creek led by David Holtgrewe with a 2 under par 70 which was the best score out of 40 golfers and Nick Davis with a 73 which was the 3rd best score.
