Congratulations to the Special Olympics basketball team for celebrating a victory in their last home game last night. In a game that was dedicated to student Taylor Atkinson, who is in New York in a hospital and very sick, the Warriors defeated the Littleton Hawks 66-60. The Warriors did an outstanding job of playing team ball and exemplifying what Warrior pride is all about. Brady Hammond showcased superb sportsmanship, while others such as Justin Simmons and Nick Gonzalez showed off scoring and passing talents. Christy Nelson and Kevin Stone moved the ball around to help others score and play their best. Andrew Carlson scored multiple three pointers to ignite the home crowd. Tyler Clyatt played aggressive on defense as always. Mercedes Acosta and Billy Williams played the kind of solid all around games that the fans have come to expect from them. The Warriors next game is on Mon. Feb 27 at 7p.m. at Littleton High School we hope to enjoy the continued support of our outstanding fans that we have had travel with us to these next few away games. Please come out, there are only a couple of more chances to catch the most spirited team at Arapahoe in action. The partner players do an incredible job of helping and announcing and cheering and pretty much doing whatever it takes to support our team. Partners also please check in with Mrs. Pepe in S6 as soon as possible about playing in the Championship tournament.

The Arapahoe Warriors Special Olympic basketball team celebrated a victory over Heritage last night by a score of 64-52. The Warriors took an early lead and never looked back scoring at will against the Eagles. The team showcased their always improving offensive prowess scoring from inside, down low and from their ranged shots. In their biggest team showing this year ALL the players scored at least once. Also, showing off their hustle the Warriors showed what has become standard in stealing the ball from the opponents at critical times, often leading to fast-break points. Justin Simmons scored another career high in points last night, Billy Williams and Kevin Stone showed of numerous different shots that the Eagles couldn't stop. Also Andrew Carlson scored from deep, Tyler Clyatt had several assists, Mitya Yavich scored, along with Kelly Mues, Brady Hammond, Nick Gonzalez, Bobby Hengfus, Mercedes Acosta, Nicole Chiafalo, and Christy Nelson all contributed for the Warriors. Thanks to the partner players for helping to make things smooth as usual. Thank you for our supporters who travelled to our rivals gym to back us up and make us feel like it was our own. The Arapahoe Special Olympics Basketball team would like to thank the Warriors for “showing the love” and filling the stands last night at Heritage high school. Our next game is a home game on Tuesday, Feb. 21st at 5:30...We play the LPS Transition team.

The Arapahoe Special Olympics basketball played in another tight battle last night. They suffered a tough loss at home versus the South Suburban Stars, losing by a narrow margin of 35-38. The Warriors controlled the tempo of the game for the first three quarters, hitting all kinds of shots, dominating on defense, and winning the battle of the boards. In the fourth quarter their opponents took a lead the Warriors could not overcome. Defensively the Warriors have been improving all season, and this match-up they showcased their vastly improved rebounding skills. Justin Simmons scored a season and career-high in points. Mercedes Acosta starred again for the Nuggets, oops, the Warriors, by scoring, stealing the ball and leading the fast paced offense. A huge thanks again to the partner players and the raucous home crowd supporting the team. Our next game is at rival Heritage next Wed. 2/15/06 at 7pm.
