Students – do you want to have a voice in actions and decisions made at Arapahoe? Before enjoying a relaxing summer, here’s an opportunity we hope you will consider. The Arapahoe School Accountability Committee is seeking 3 students to serve on this committee for next year. The committee meets once a month during the school year and is a valuable experience and opportunity for you to make a difference at Arapahoe. Please consider joining SAC! Applications are available from Mrs. Minnotte in the Attendance Office. Application deadline is May 25th.
This Sunday, May 21st, our Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs will be performing with Canadian professional trumpeter, Bria Skonberg, at the Denver Jazz Club’s May Youth Jam Session! The UCD Claimjumpers will also be performing. The sets run from 2 until 5pm at the Westminster Elks Lodge. Tickets are just $7.00, and all proceeds will benefit The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs. Come find out why this combo won a 2006 National Downbeat Magazine Outstanding Jazz Performance Award!! This will be the final performance of the year for the 2005-06 Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs. So instead of last minute cramming and massive amounts of caffeine, come to the first ever Student Film Festival. That's right, after many delays and end of year projects; it's time to watch those films that a small part of you submitted. The fun starts at 2:30, today. Featured films include: The Volvo Diaries, Absolut Voder, and DDR: The Real Revolution. See you Thursday.

An intensive Chinese course taught through a simulated adventure for interested Arapahoe students will be held at Euclid Middle School the week of July 29 through August 5. The course will be taught by Dr. Robert Blair, Brigham Young University professor of linguistics. Additional information is available from the main office.
Students who still need to pick up their yearbooks can do so from 6-7 a.m., during 4th hour and at lunch as well as after school until 3 p.m. Books need to be claimed no later than noon tomorrow!!! Late fees will apply after Thursday.

Attention AHS Cheers: there will be no open gym for today due to the State Soccer playoff game. We will begin again on June 1st. Again, open gym for cheers for today, May 17th has been cancelled.
The Arapahoe Boys Swim & Dive team will be traveling to Fort Collins tomorrow and Friday for the State Competition. The warriors' team will be one of the largest represented teams there with 14 qualifiers. Congratulations and Good Luck to: Brock Logan, Chris Wiggin, Vinny Crispino, Eric Anderssen, Nick Anderson, Jeff Trefz, Dave Bough, Skylar Schaffer, Rob Newell, Ian Francis, Jeff Nadel, Andy Cozzette, Corey Riedel, and Eric Wallace

If you are unscheduled 6th hour on Tuesday, please come out and help plant in the garden along Dry Creek Road. It is not required but help would be appreciated! The planting will most likely continue after school.

Congratulations to the Boy's Swim team who took first place at Continental league championships this weekend. The Warriors performance was highlighted by the addition of four new state qualifiers. Jeff Trefz, Jeff Nadel, and Andy Cozzette all became state qualifiers in the 500 free. Dave Baugh swam a much sought after state time in the 100 breast. Outstanding swimmers were Rob Newell 1st place, 200 Im and 4th place 100 back, Chris Wiggin 2nd place 200 Im, 5th 100 back, Eric Anderssen 1st place in both 50 free and 100 free Ian, Francis 2nd place 100 breast, 4th place 200 IM, Vinny Crispino 2nd place 50 free, Nick Anderson 2nd place 100 free, Jeff Trefz 5th place 500 free, 5th place 200 free, Jeff Nadel 6th place 500 free, Rick Levy 8th place 100 fly. The warriors relay teams brought back a first in the 200 medley and the 200 free relays. Eric Wallace and Corey Riedel came in 4th and 5th with their diving scores. Way to go Boys. Arapahoe will be sending 14 boy's to the state competition on Thursday and Friday.
Arapahoe Boys Varsity Lacrosse plays Denver East tonight in the semi-round @ Englewood High School. Game is at 7:30. Adult price is $7 and students are $5. We need all the Arapahoe fans to come out and cheer your team on. A win tonight sends us to Invesco field Saturday for the State Championship. GOOD LUCK WARRIORS!!!

Outstanding swimmers were Rob Newell 1st place, 200 Im and 4th place 100 back, Chris Wiggin 2nd place 200 Im, 5th 100 back, Eric Anderssen 1st place in both 50 free and 100 free Ian, Francis 2nd place 100 breast, 4th place 200 IM, Vinny Crispino 2nd place 50 free, Nick Anderson 2nd place 100 free, Jeff Trefz 5th place 500 free, 5th place 200 free, Jeff Nadel 6th place 500 free, Rick Levy 8th place 100 fly. The warriors relay teams brought back a first in the 200 medley and the 200 free relays. Eric Wallace and Corey Riedel came in 4th and 5th with their diving scores. Way to go Boys. Arapahoe will be sending 14 boy's to the state competition on Thursday and Friday.
Arapahoe Boys Varsity Lacrosse plays Denver East tonight in the semi-round @ Englewood High School. Game is at 7:30. Adult price is $7 and students are $5. We need all the Arapahoe fans to come out and cheer your team on. A win tonight sends us to Invesco field Saturday for the State Championship. GOOD LUCK WARRIORS!!!

Come find out why this combo won a 2006 National Downbeat Magazine Outstanding Jazz Performance Award!! This will be the final performance of the year for the 2005-06 Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs. Please see any Dixie musician, or stop by the band office, to buy advance purchase tickets.
Are you interested in exploring the Chinese language? An intensive Chinese course taught through a simulated adventure for interested Arapahoe students will be held at Euclid Middle School the week of July 29 through August 5. The course will be taught by Dr. Robert Blair, Brigham Young University professor of linguistics. Additional information is available from the main office.

Moving on to compete in this weekends state championships at Jeffco Stadium are Adam Glenn, Nick Bailey, Travis Smith, Ben Clark, Dakota Palan-Johnson, Jason Woodland, and Jade Buresh. Adam Glenn set a new school record in the 800 with a time of 1:54.60 breaking his old record by almost 7 tenths of a second. Congratulations to all of the athletes that competed in the regional meet. Uniform check in for all tracksters not competing in the state meet we be this Tuesday after school in the cage area. Please have you uniform washed and placed neatly in your bag. If you do not show up Tuesday a fine will be issued in your name.

Goals were made by Ross Klein, Eric Law, Ben Johns, Tyler Snyder, Stephen Gerhard, Matt Paullara and Ryan Parietti. There was great goal tending as usual by Peyton Tyrie and Wes Gibler. WAY TO GO TEAM! Next playoff game will be Saturday @ Englewood High School 2:00 against Mullen. We need all the Lacrosse fans there to cheer your team on to victory. GO WARRIORS!!!!

Please join us for a great evening of wonderful music and celebration dedicated to the graduating class of 2006! It’s the Spring Band Concert in the Theatre starting at 7pm. Pre-concert ensembles begin at 6pm. Tonight’s featured soloists include Peter Mitchell on trumpet, and Tenor Saxophonist, Katherine Cameron. Concert Band, Symphonic Band and our National Downbeat Award Winning Wind Ensemble will all be featured on the main concert.

Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble for being named Downbeat Magazine's Best 2006 U.S. High School Wind Ensemble! This is the first time Arapahoe has received this honor. Also, The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs were awarded a 2006 Outstanding Jazz Performance Award! This is the first time Arapahoe has received 2 Downbeat national awards in the same year!! Arapahoe was the only Colorado high school recognized by Downbeat Magazine!!!

The U.S. Navy Top 40’s Band based in San Diego, California, will perform a free concert in the Arapahoe High School Theatre beginning at 8:30 am Tuesday, May 9th.
The week of May 7th is U. S. Navy week. This entertaining top 40’s band will put on a stunning concert performance. All styles of rock, jazz and popular music will be performed. Hope you can make it!
Anyone interested in joining the Muse staff for next year’s magazine should come to an informational meeting this Wednesday after school in C-17, that’s C-17 for anyone who would like to join the Muse staff for next year. We are looking for fun, creative people like you who enjoy watching something artistic grow and become a reality. Staff members can still contribute creative work to the magazine, and learn a lot about producing and publishing a journal of arts and literature. Don’t snooze, join the Muse, this Wednesday in C-17.
Athletics
Varsity Boys Lacrosse opens its State Championship campaign Tuesday, May 9th against Monarch at 7PM. The game will be played at LPSS. Come out and cheer wildly for the Varsity Warriors!!
Great job goes out to the J.V. Girls Track team for winning the league championship on Friday night with a total of 184 points. This was 65 points more than second place Regis. Individual league champions were Emily Lewis in the 1600 m. run and Aubrey Daley in the long jump. There will be a short meeting after school today to hand out awards from the meet and discuss uniform check-in.
The girl's varsity tennis team took 2nd place at the regional tournament last Friday. Here are the results: Molly Ray, 4th place; Lauren Craig, 3rd place and state qualifier; Suzanne Chang, 2nd place and state qualifier; Jenna Dornseif/ Celeste Lorenzo 2nd place and state qualifier; Leisha Bryant/Lauren Stemper 3rd place; Katie Maxey/Laine Pacetti 2nd place and state qualifier; Annie Lorenzo/Jenny Morris 1st place and state qualifier. The state tournament is this Thursday and Friday at the Gates Tennis Center. Come on out and support your tennis team.

Students wishing to leave early from the After-Prom: it is AHS’s policy that an Arapahoe Administrator or faculty member calls your parents prior to students leaving the After-Prom: Arapahoe High School does not make prior arrangements with parents through notes and phone calls. The girls JV soccer team advanced to the semi-finals of the Warrior Invitational Tournament yesterday by defeating Mullen, 5 – 0.
Is Leslie McGetrick in your class right now? High fives for her season and personal best golf score of a 76 at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club Tournament yesterday. She placed 4th overall! Other awesome scores came from Maria Gushurst, 92, Aubrey Dreessen, 94, and Christine Decker, 96. Way to go Lady Golfers!!

The Arapahoe Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team will be playing Cherry Creek in the regular season finale tonight at 7:00pm at Cherry Creek High School. Come out and show Creek some Warrior pride. First round of playoffs will be next Wednesday, place and time to be announced. Go Warriors!

Students wishing to leave early from the After-Prom, it is AHS’s policy that an Arapahoe Administrator or faculty member calls your parents prior to students leaving the After-Prom: Arapahoe High School does not make prior arrangements with parents through notes and phone calls. Please see Mr. Routh if you have any questions.
Prom Tickets are selling and selling fast!! They will be on sale through the end of this week. Friday 2nd lunch is your last chance to purchase tickets for $30. On Saturday night, they will be sold at the door for $35 a person. Remember to bring your student ID and to be safe on Prom Night!!
FBLA officer applications are now available. Be a leader, socialize, community service projects, great opportunities for scholarships! Get involved now. Pick up an application in the Business Department. Applications are due Friday May 12.
Come to tomorrow night’s Spring Jazz Concert and hear both of our big bands, along with the Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs. It will be a farewell concert performance for our class of 2006! The performance starts at 7pm in the cafeteria. Root Beer Floats, desserts and additional beverages will be served throughout the concert. Don’t miss a great evening of Jazz – hope to see you tomorrow night!
Athletics
The Arapahoe Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team will be playing Cherry Creek in the regular season finale tonight at 7:00pm at Cherry Creek High School. Come out and show Creek some Warrior pride. First round of playoffs will be next Wednesday, place and time to be announced. Go Warriors!
The girls JV soccer team defeated Douglas County yesterday 3 – 0. Sarah Barczuk, Briana Bailey and Amy Barczuk each scored.

The Arapahoe High School Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs will be performing a night of traditional jazz at Dazzle's Jazz Club (930 Lincoln Street in Denver) tonight. The cover charge is just $5.00 and reservations can be made by calling 303-839-5100. One set of music will be performed from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Hope to see you at Dazzle's tonight!!

Congratulations to JV Gold tennis. They completed their season with a 9-1 match record and finished second in the LPS JV tourney. The team's total game record in all of their matches was 92-26! The team of Erin Schulhof and Jennifer Grierson took first place at number 2 doubles in the tournament. The top records for the season were Stephanie Corder at 11-1, Annie Robinson, 10-1 and Erin Schulhof, 8-1. Thanks for a great season ladies!

Attention Juniors and Seniors with NON-Arapahoe prom guests. The deadline for your Prom Guest Request form is Wednesday, May 3. Forms are available in the Main Office, Attendance Office and the Dean's Office in the Guidance Center. All NON - Arapahoe guests MUST be approved for prom to be admitted to the After-Prom.
Students wishing to leave early from the After-Prom, it is AHS policy that an Arapahoe Administrator or faculty member calls your parents prior to students leaving the After-Prom: Arapahoe High School does not make prior arrangements with parents through notes and phone calls. Attention all girls interested in playing softball next year. There will be a brief meeting Tuesday, May 2nd in room N-5 right after school. Anyone unable to attend should see coach Fazio in the Special Services office.
The Warrior Girls Track Team won their fifth invitational on Saturday by out scoring state power George Washington High School with a score of 88 points. Meet champions for the Warriors were: Michelle Ripple in the pole vault and Denise Mattoon in the shot put. Keep up the great work ladies and good luck at the league meet this coming Saturday.
Congratulations to the JV girl’s golf team for their 3rd place finish in the last JV tournament of the season. Anny Lim tied for 3rd place overall with a score of 38 and Carrie Barker tied for 4th with a score of 39. Way to go JV Golfers!!
