General Announcements

Attention juniors and seniors: Are you interested in taking college classes while you’re still enrolled in high school? If so, you must attend an informational meeting in the Forum on Friday, November 3rd during your lunch hour. Required paperwork and information will be distributed, so your attendance is mandatory. Please see your counselor if you have any questions.

Attention Arapahoe Mathematicians!! The 2nd National Assessment and Testing Mathematics competition is scheduled for tomorrow, November 1st at 2:30 p.m. in room S-11. Snacks will be provided. Your talents are needed so please plan to attend. Please confirm your participation with Mrs. Blechschmidt. The University of Northern Colorado Mathematics Competition is scheduled for Friday, November 3rd, after school in room N-2 and N-3. Please return your permission forms to your math teacher or to Mrs. Lobser ASAP! The CSU Math Day Competition is this Thursday, November 2nd. Participants must return their completed permission forms to Mrs. Bretz as soon as possible.

If you like humans and are ready to jam, come to Amnesty International's 2nd annual JAMNESTY. The concert will be this Friday, November 3rd at 6pm at the Rockhouse. All proceeds go to planning our spring fundraiser which raises money for Project Education Sudan. Look for a table in the cafeteria this week for details and get ready to jam for a cause!

Muse Members; note that our next meeting is tomorrow, November 1st after school in room C16. We will have a poster party and discuss further plans for our magazine! Bring your planners! And, DO NOT forget to design a logo for our T-shirts! We vote next meeting! Anyone is welcome to join and submit work now! We want your lovely art, writings, and poetry!

Attention juniors: Terry Ruch (Roosh) will be here on Wednesday to give a presentation on preparing for college. Juniors will be dismissed to go to the auditorium by the loudspeaker after reporting to 5th hour class. Please bring a pen and paper for notes, as he will be giving out valuable information.

Do you want to win candy for that AWESOME costume your wearing today? Just your luck, today during both lunches you can enter into the Halloween costume contest. Come during lunch and show off your Halloween spirit!

AHS Special Olympics Basketball is almost ready to start! Any seniors who are interested in participating should come to room S6 and see Mrs. Pepe. If you have previously signed up, please come in for an application. Practices start Nov. 20. The season runs through the first week of March. We practice at AHS from 7-8:30.

Congratulations Toms, on winning the Midwest Spirit competition last Saturday. The Toms came a way with a 1st place in their division and the Grand Champion award overall. Next up for the Toms is League at Gateway High School on November 15th. Come out and cheer the Toms on. Go Toms!

As promised we would like to announce the winners for both the student and staff Halloween candy jars. The winner of the student candy jar located in the library is….senior Stacy Gibbons with a guess of 81. The actual number of candy in that jar was 81! Stacy was right on with her guess. Stacy please come on down to the library and pickup your candy pumpkin when you have a free hour! The winner of the staff candy jar located in the Main Office is Science teacher Ms. Lori Ierubino. Ms. Ierubino also guessed correctly with a guess of 78. Congratulations to both winners!

Do you have a heart for all sorts of animals? Come to the Animals Deserve Rights meeting this Wednesday in W104. Food will be provided and we are always looking for new members. You do not need to attend every meeting in order to be involved, so keep looking for updates and new upcoming projects!

Hey FBLA are meeting time had been changed for this week to Thursday after school in S1 for adopt a family. We will be making posters and organizing the adopt-a-family drive.

Hey Community Service Just ‘Cause members! There’s going to be a meeting this Thursday in room C19 right after school. The holiday season is almost here, so we have a lot to plan. See you at the meeting!

Athletics

Winter sports registration will take place next week at 2:30 pm in Room S3. Wrestling will be done on Monday, November 6th, boy’s and girl’s basketball will be on Tuesday, November 7th and girls swimming and diving will be on Wednesday, November 8th.

Cross Country runners are to turn in CLEAN uniforms after school today and Wednesday in the down stairs equipment room. Also, if you have not picked up your team jacket, do so today!

Boy’s soccer has advanced to the quarter-finals! The “big” game will be tonight at 7:00 pm at Littleton Public Stadium. The Warriors will take on the eagles of Heritage. Come out and cheer on our amazing team! Admission prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students. GO WARRIORS – BEAT HERITAGE!!!

Attention Volleyball Players: Varsity and JV players who practiced last week must turn in their uniforms today after school. Please meet in the gym and bring clean warm ups, jerseys, and bags!

And suddenly, to my surprise…
Take a break from all the “ghooling” madness of the holiday season and come check out the Library. In addition to having all the materials and studying tools you need to get ready for all of your “beastly” projects, we are sponsoring a holiday contest for all students! Come check out the jar of goodies located at the Circulation counter and make your best guess. The prize for the closest guess is the jar of goodies of course! The lucky winner will be announced tomorrow, October 31st.

Do you like Math? Got functions running through your head? Want to embrace the college atmosphere while competing with some of Colorado's finest math students? Then have we got a deal for you. Join us at CSU Math Day in Fort Collins on Thursday, November 2nd. Compete in a math exam for CSU scholarships. Teams challenge the brightest from the metro area. See your math teacher or Mrs. Bretz to sign up.

BOOM, BOOM goes the pumpkins! Channel 9 is highlighting some of Mrs. Marchino’s students Halloween demos for the 9news morning show on Tues October 31st. Come see the live taping of Steve Spangler highlighting science at AHS and join in the fun.

Seventeen students were awarded excellent and superior ribbons this Saturday at the NFL Rules Great Pumpkin Novice Speech and Debate Tournament. Novices rule! Now we begin the Varsity Season. Good luck to all speech competitors!

Attention all FCCLA Members: FCCLA will be having a meeting today in room E3 right after school. We will be discussing the completion of our Maxfund project, our adopt-a-family project, the upcoming field trip on Thursday for state conference training, as well as making plans for chapter activities for the holiday season. The boys Varsity soccer team defeated Durango 2 – 0 Friday to advance to the Quarterfinal round.

Great job girls for your 10th place finish at the STATE 5A Championships. You represented Arapahoe well. And make us all proud. The Warriors Scored 322 points for a 10th place finish. A total of 22 teams and 17 individual runners were represented. Representing the Warrior Team: Katie Monnet 11th -- 19:35.20, Emily Kirchhofer 46th-- 20:51.45, Kayla Balcier 50th – 20:57.10, Sarah Ray 71st – 21:12.00, Joardan Kiszla 144th – 22:44.10, Betsy Hancock 157th – 23:14.05 and Emily Lewis 167th – 24:50.40. Ladies we are proud of you and your fine showing – CONGRATULATIONS! Thanks to the parents and team members for your support.

Hey Warriors! Don’t forget, today the Wild Warrior Women are starting the diaper drive for the babies of the Arapaho Tribe. Please bring in diapers or new or barely used baby items. We are also doing a raffle at lunch. Tickets are $3. You can win a Chipotle are Starbucks gift card. Boxes for your donations are in rooms C8, C6, C4, N5, and in the Athletic Office. Don’t forget your diapers.

The PLAN test will be given on October 28, 2006 at Arapahoe High School from approximately 8:00-11:00 am. Interested sophomores should sign up for the PLAN test in the post graduate center. The test costs $20. Deadline for registering for the PLAN is October 26, 2006. No reading materials or extra paper allowed during testing.

Hey Warriors! Next week, Wild Warrior Women will be sponsoring a diaper drive for the babies of the Arapahoe tribe. You can bring diapers, or any new or gently used baby supplies, like toys or blankets. There will be boxes in every history classroom as well as the main office and guidance center. At lunch, we will be having a raffle. If you bring $3 or one baby item, you will get one raffle ticket. There will be one winner each day, so the more you bring, the better chance you have to win. All winners will receive a Chipotle or Starbucks gift card, so don’t forget your diapers next week!

Hey Key Club Members! Remember to come to our meeting on Monday, October 23rd, after school in room C16. We are planning a Trick-or-Treat Street and several other great community service opportunities and we need your participation. Also, anybody who signed up for the Spooktacular, please remember to wear dark clothes to the event.

Just a reminder, that there is no tailgating at LPS stadium or the parking lot here at AHS.

Now until tomorrow (10/18) you will receive a .25 credit off your fine balance for every non perishable food donation you bring into the library. To ensure that you receive credit toward your fine, personally hand your donation to any of the library staff members. Help yourself while you help others.

Good luck to all members of the Warrior Marching Band who will be performing in tomorrow’s Pikes Peak March of Champions! Arapahoe is the defending champion band!! The competition is at Garry Berry Stadium in Colorado Springs.
Your Warrior Marching Band will also be performing in the 2006 State Marching Band Championships on Saturday afternoon. Arapahoe’s Prelims time is 2:30pm at Hughes Stadium, in Ft. Collins, at CSU. The top 8 bands will then advance to the finals night show! Good Luck Warrior Marching Band!!!

Attention all students taking the PSAT tomorrow, Wednesday October 18th. You should plan to arrive at school no later than 7:15 am. You must bring your yellow ticket, your student ID, 3 #2 pencils and a calculator. Cell phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed in the testing rooms, nor will you be allowed to read or write in between testing sessions. Please do not bring any extra supplies. Please report to your testing room number listed on your ticket promptly at 7:15. Students assigned to room C22 will now be in room C25. Room assignments are also posted in the cafeteria. If you have any questions, please stop by the guidance office today.

Congratulations to the Boy’s Soccer team for clinching the Continental League Championship!! Tomorrow’s game against Heritage will be the last game of the regular season so come out in force and wear your black and gold!!! It is also Senior Recognition night AND Fan Appreciation Night. You may be the winner of a Chipotle gift certificate or other fabulous prizes. Tomorrow night, 7 p.m. at the stadium – be there! GO ABK!!
Congratulations to the freshman and sophomore cross country team for their outstanding showing at the Trailblazer Invitational@ Exposition Park in Aurora. The Girls Freshman Team Placed 1st in a field of 10 teams with a score of 15 points. Running for the Warriors were: Kayla Cederstrom 2nd, Sara Markisohn 5th, MacKenzie Monnet 8th, Jessica Bond 11th, Tesa Neal 12th, Shauna Maty 13th, and Emily Perry 18th. The Girls Sophomore Team Placed 4th in a field of 8 teams with a score of 77 points. The top 7 runners were: Tristin Johnson 43rd, Erin Lamb 54th, Sarah Keese 67th, Michelle Marr 77th, Kalyssa Moehlenpah 78th, Stacey Birlson 81st, and Kelsie Brumley 84th. The Boys Freshman Team Placed 9th in a field of 13 teams with a score of 116 points. Hey everyone! Today is the last day to buy a raffle ticket to be entered to win a 30-pound box of candy. Tickets are only $1 and can be bought during both lunches. All money raised will help Mrs. Krueger’s 6th period Intro. to Business class start up their own business. The drawing will take place today during 2nd lunch and the winner will be announced during tomorrow’s announcements. Don’t miss out, buy a ticket!

Congratulations to all members of the Warrior Marching Band for placing 1st and being named the grand champion band at the New Friendship Cup band competition on Saturday! At prelims, our band scored a season high 87points!! Arapahoe won the best music, best effect, and best color guard caption awards!! We also scored over 90 points in 3 music categories!! In the finals show, the Warrior Band won the best music and best effect awards. Another box 5, over 90 point score was achieved in music - general effect. Arapahoe's percussion section placed second in the finals competition! Way to go Warrior Band!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS go to the following students who won Excellent ribbons at the Overland High School Novice Speech and Debate tournament: Isaac Adams, Mitch Bateman, Kelby Burton, Sara Christensen, Ryan Foley, Lauren Haefliger, Sam Hustis, Courtney Jones, Leah Jones, and Will Underlich. What a spectacular performance by the Lady Warrior Cross Country Team placing FIRST with a low score of 64 points. The Boys also had a great day of running placing 6th in this 14 team meet. The girls’ varsity softball team defeated Coronado 5 to 1 in the first round of district playoffs. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to make it to the state tournament, losing to Cherry Creek in the second round. Congratulations on a great season ladies while setting many school records this year. A reminder to all varsity softball players, please turn in your uniforms ASAP to Coach Fazio’s office.

Starting today during both lunches we are selling raffle tickets. The winner of the raffle will receive a huge box of candy to enjoy and share with your friends. Tickets are only $1 – buy two and double your chances of winning.

Good Luck to all members of the Warrior Marching Band who will be performing at The New Friendship Cup Band Competition tomorrow afternoon. Apply if you are in the top 5% of your graduating class, scored 1200 or higher on the SAT OR 27 or higher on the ACT and have been a Colorado resident for your junior and senior years.

Congratulations to the Freshman B, sophomore, and JV volleyball teams for their victory over Littleton last night! The warriors take on Mountain Vista on Thursday night…thanks for your support!

Are you interested in technology? Do you like building things like CO2 cars, Architectural Models, Balsawood bridges? Do you have good leadership and problem-solving skills? Are you interested in Computer Graphic Design or Promotional Graphics? Do you like to compete locally and nationally? Then the Technology Student Association Club or, TSA club is for you. The next TSA club meeting will be today, October 10th in room E10. Also if you are running for office, please see Mr. McMullen before Tues!!

Some students have experienced difficulties when working on an attachment that they’ve emailed to themselves at school. When you download an attachment from your email, you want to save it to your server folder first, and then open it from your server folder. If you choose to open it from your email, the document gets saved as a temporary file in your web browser, and then gets deleted when you exit your web browser. Please always choose to save it first, then exit out of your email and open it from your server folder.

There were 27 bands in competition and Arapahoe won the General Music and Visual caption Award out of all competing units! In Prelims our band scored a season high 79.26 points with first place music scores. Percussion and Color Guard placed 2nd out of all 5A competing units! Then in Finals, Arapahoe placed first in music out of all 5A bands, and spread the gap from their closest competitor, Legacy!! The Arapahoe HS Warrior Marching Band is currently ranked Number 1 in the state!!! Be sure to come out to tomorrow’s State Qualifying Competition and cheer on your Warrior Band! Athletics

The Boy's Varsity Tennis team took 2nd place in their regional tournament last Thursday and Friday. Erik Johnson took 3rd place. Cole Conley, Kevin Law, Brian Craig, Dan Johnson, Eric Law, Ky Kocur, Ryan Beckett and Jeff Gunnell all took 2nd place and qualified for State! Jeff Maxey and Wade Schutte took 1st place and also qualified for State. Congratulations guys.

The Varsity Girls Team place 1st with a score of 76 points, in a field of l9 teams with 139 runners. The seven girls bring home this honor were: Katie Monnet 4th, Emily Kirchhofer 10th, Kayla Baciar 15th, Sarah Ray 21, Jordan Kiszla 26th, Betsy Hancock 36th, & Emily Lewis 73rd.

The Varsity Boys Team placed 6th with a score of 149 points, in a field of 23 teams with 166 runners. The seven boys running were: Chris Holt 18th, Matt Ryan 26th, Caleb VanEssen 28th Jason Kearns 33rd, Devan Wharry 44th, Brett Hillbrand 61st and Eric Gibbs 74th.

The JV Teams also had great races: The boy’s team placed 4th in a field of 16 teams and 125 runners. Scorers were: DOUG WINTER 1ST PLACE, Reed Thompson 10th, Scott McClelland 19th, Alex Reitsema 34th, Dan Marr 51st, Sheldon Slatter 60th and Phil Bourgeois 78th.

The boys Varsity soccer team defeated Gateway Friday, 5 – 1. The boys Fresh/Soph soccer team also beat Gateway Friday by a score of 7 – 0.

Congratulations to the Freshmen Football team for a big 21-14 win this weekend against Mountain Vista. The Win moves the freshmen record to 4 wins and 2 losses. It was a great TEAM effort. Great job Warriors.

General Announcements

Seniors: Boettcher scholarship applications are available in the Post Grad Center. You are eligible to apply for a Boettcher if you are in the top 5% of your class, scored 1200 or higher on the math and reading sections of the SAT –OR- 27 or higher on the ACT, have been a resident of Colorado for at least your junior and senior years of high school. You may pick up applications in the Post Grad Center.

Register to vote. All students who are already 18 years old and those students who will be 18 by November 7th should register to vote. Come to the table beside the Guidance Center doors today during both lunches to register. Bring your driver's license.

Juniors and seniors: College visits for today are: University of Northern Colorado at 9:30 in the Theatre; Willamette University at 11:45 in The Guidance Center Conference Room.

Donate! Donate! Donate! This month is the Bronco’s Wives Food Drive, and we need your help! Bring in non-perishables and canned food to all of the Bronco’s wives food drive boxes located in all classrooms, and help all of those in need this winter. Money donations are also acceptable. The food drive will run through October 20th.

Attention Warriors! Link Crew invites you to the ALL-SCHOOL tailgate this Friday! Get a hot dog, pop, cookie and chips for $2, plus transportation to the game! Help us cheer our team on to win against Mountain Vista! Meet us in the West parking lot a 4:00 p.m.

Athletics

For all you ABK Soccer fans, today at the stadium is ‘Fan Appreciation’ night. In recognition of your undying loyalty we will be giving away some fabulous prizes!!!! Please come out to the stadium at 7 o’clock to watch the Warriors rock the Regis Raiders!!!!!! Go ABK.

There will be a picnic for the Arapahoe Boys and Girls Swimming/Diving teams on Saturday, October 7th from 1-3pm at DeKoevend Park, Shelter B. Bring your footballs and frisbees. Lunch and drinks are provided. The girl’s senior picture for the yearbook will be taken at 12:30pm….don’t be late.

The Freshmen and Sophomore Cross Country Team had a very outstanding showing at the 13 team Northglenn Invitational. The Girls team placed 1st with 46 points. Scorers for Arapahoe were: Kayla Balciar 4th, Sara Ray 5th, Kayla Cederstrom 11th, Nicole Markisohn 12th and Jessica Bond 14th. The Boys Team placed 2nd with 94 points. Scorers for Arapahoe were: Chris Holt 4th, Jason Kearns 7th, Chris Berghoff 21st, Andrew Okazake 27th and Phil Krell 35th. THIS WAS ANOTHER GREAT TEAM EFFORT BY THE TEAM. All baseball players, you will meet in the weight training room at 2:30 today. Please do the circuit on your own.

Congrats to the Freshman A and Varsity Volleyball teams for defeating Chaparral last night and three and five games. They were great team battles to watch! Good luck Warrior Volleyball tomorrow night at home against Rock Canyon.
