General Announcements

Today marks the beginning of Safe Schools Week, and today is Wellness Day.  Stop by our table in front of the Guidance Center during lunch today for more information about health and wellness.  Wear yellow on Wednesday – stay tuned for details!

Congratulations to the Warrior Marching Band who competed in the 2013 Douglas County Marching Invitational on Saturday!!!  In prelims competition, the band placed 2nd overall with a score of 77.45.  In finals competition, Arapahoe placed 2nd overall and 1st in 5A competition with a score of 78.05.  Arapahoe also took home the award for High Visual Effect!!!  The band would like to invite all students, staff, and administrators to the 2013 CBA State Championships!!!  Arapahoe has secured the #4 placement going into State this coming weekend and will be performing at 11:00 a.m. in semi-finals.  All performances will be held at Hughes Stadium at Colorado State University in Fort Collins on Saturday, October 26.  We hope to see you there!!!

Remember, if you're applying for membership in National Honor Society, applications are due today by 3:00. You need to deliver your application and $15 application fee to Mrs. Kazakoff in the Guidance Office, and if you're able to drop it off earlier in the day, you can save yourself from standing in a long line after school. Thanks!

Arapahoe High School will host a regional college fair on Monday, October 21 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Sitting Eagle Gymnasium. Over 50 Colleges from Colorado and neighboring states will attend. Plan to come and talk to representatives from colleges that may be of interest to you.  Please park on the west side of the building.  Doors will open promptly at 6 p.m.

Sophomores, don’t forget about the opportunity to take the PLAN, a practice ACT test, on Saturday, November 2nd! Register in the Guidance Office now through October 28th. The cost is $15. 

Attention dodgeball players! All competitors participating in the DECA Dodgeball tournament must attend one of the rules meeting held today at 2:30 in Room E9 or tomorrow , October 22nd at 5:30 in the Forum. Remember it is MANDATORY for every member participating on a team to attend one of these meetings. If you do not attend a rules meeting, you will not be allowed to play in the tournament.  This Wednesday is the annual DECA Dodgeball Tournament.  You won't want to miss this exciting, once a year event.  Admission is only $3. Come out and support your favorite NFL football team as they battle on the court. 

Hey Warriors, did you miss the Informational TSA meeting last week?  No worries, just come to the next TSA meeting this Thursday, October 24th at 2:25 in Room E6.  Be ready for some thinking as we'll be competing in our first Problem Solving competition!!  See Mr. McMullen for questions.

Are you comfortable using technology such as Google Drive and the Science Techbook? Have you ever helped a friend get connected to wireless? Do you like to help your fellow students? If so, you might be a perfect candidate for AHS's version of the Apple Genius Bar. Please see the AHS web page for more information and a link to the application form. Deadline is November 4th.




Attention all Arapahoe Students . . . we are calling on you to help others in our community who are in need. October 21-November 1 we will be collecting non-perishable food for the students and community at Field Elementary. Please help us support the Food for Field drive by bringing cans or non-perishable food to the boxes located in each classroom. The winning class will receive a prize. We will also be hosting a raffle during both lunches.  Please bring two non-perishable items in exchange for a raffle ticket. The winners of ten Deca Dollars will be announced on Friday the 25th and November 1. Show your support for the community and make sure to donate!

Athletics

Congratulations to all four volleyball teams for their sweep against Overland Friday night.  A special congratulations to the Freshman team who were champions for the second year in a row at Saturday's Grandview Tournament.  Varsity has one more week of regular season games before Regionals.  They play on Saturday at Rangeview in their end of season tournament.

The Arapahoe boys and girls cross country teams will be heading to state competition on Saturday.  The boys team defended their regional championship on Thursday and the girls team, led by regional champion Emily Wolff, came in fourth. Great job Running Warriors and good luck at State.

Attention Boys and Girls Swimmers and Divers.  A reminder, the swim clinic begins today and runs through Thursday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. for a three-week period.  There is a $25 cost for each week that you attend the clinic.  The clinic is recommended but optional for all swimmers.  Boy swimmers, you can use this experience as a way to transition into a club swim team in preparation for the start of boys swimming season.  Please pickup signup materials in Coach Richmond's office.  

“Pink Cards" for Winter Sports will be distributed in the Cafeteria on Wednesday from 2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.  Online registration must be completed and a current physical must be on file in the Athletic Office before student-athletes can receive their "Pink Card".   Registration is completed online at www.ahswarriors.org.

Attention all girls interested in playing basketball this upcoming season. The Girl's Basketball "Pre-Season" camp begins Wednesday, October 30th from 2:30-5:00 in the Auxiliary Gym. Please come and join us to be part of our march to "March Madness" and a championship. We have four levels to fill, Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior Varsity and Varsity. So, regardless of your experience level, you can find a spot to experience the excitement of Arapahoe Lady Hoops! Lady Warrior Lacrosse Players,   It is time to register for spring lacrosse.   With our talented coaching staff and multiple teams, it will be great season.   On October 30th at 7 00 p.m. in the AHS Library, we will hold spring girls lacrosse registration.  Come join us and feel free to check out the AHS Girls Team website at http://girls.ahslax.org.   Go Warriors!
