Congratulations to our Junior varsity girls swim team on their win
over the Overland Varsity team yesterday - 134-43!

Also, good luck to our varsity girls swimmers this weekend. Some are
heading to a Cheyenne Mountain meet in Colorado Springs tonight and
tomorrow while 17 varsity girls are headed to the Coaches invitational
meet in Thornton Saturday morning and afternoon. Good luck ladies!

General Announcements:

If you turned in a permission slip to go to Alice Terry Elementary for the toy delivery, please plan to be at the bus in the circle drive tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.

All speech team members should plan to attend a short meeting today in C15 at 12:15.

State TSA Conference paperwork has been passed out and is due back to Mr. McMullen by this Friday!! If you are planning to participate in this year’s State TSA conference in February and didn’t receive your registration packet yet, you must pick one up from Mr. McMullen ASAP. Tonight is TSA “Open Lab” time where you may come to get started on your competitions. No activity is planned other than work time.

Attention, Juniors and Sophomores! The PSAT results are back! They will be available to pick up today. Please come and pick them up from the Guidance Office.

All Arapahoe students who bring their SBA card will be admitted to the games for free. There is a limited supply of pre-sell tickets – if we sell out, you will need to wait to purchase your ticket Tuesday evening at the door. Go Warriors!

Congratulations to the following students on their performances at Saturday’s Cherry Creek High School’s Winter Wonder Speech Tournament:
Karl Pierson earned sixth place overall in National Extemporaneous Speaking.
Blake Nielsen earned a superior ribbon in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Earning excellent ribbons were the team of Bronson Dowd and Lizzie Stephani in Public Forum Debate. Also earning an excellent ribbon was Peter Galloway in National Extemporaneous Speaking.
The tournament involved 34 schools and almost 600 competitors. Nice job!

All speech team members should plan to attend a short meeting Tuesday in C15 at 12:15.

Attention all Physical Education students: The 12 minute run make-up will be on Monday, December 12th at 2:30 on the track. This is the only make-up day! Be there!!!

Congratulations to Emily Reed who was selected to the 2011-2012 All-State Dance Team. Emily was selected by the Colorado Spirit Coaches Association and was one of only 10 girls chosen for this prestigious team. Emily, thank you for representing Arapahoe High School in such a positive way!!

Congratulations to Sophomore saxophonist, Dominic Martinez, for being selected to the Colorado All-State Jazz Band!!! Dominic was selected as Alternate Bari Saxophone in the jazz band this year through a very rigorous audition process. The All-State Jazz Band will be rehearsing and performing during the 2012 Colorado Music Educators Association Conference at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs on January 26-28, 2012. Congratulations Dominic!!!

Congratulations to Junior flutist, Melissa Merkel, for being selected to the Colorado All-State Philharmonic Orchestra!!! Melissa was selected as Principal Flute in the orchestra this year through a very rigorous audition process and she will be rehearsing and performing with the 60th Anniversary All-State Orchestra in Ft. Collins on February 9-11, 2012. Congratulations Melissa!!!

Thank you to all who participated in the AHS Toys for Tots toy drive. We received over 1,000 toys for the kids at Alice Terry Elementary and the Denver Indian Center, surpassing our 1,000 toy goal. We wish you all the happiness you are bringing to others. You are an incredible Arapahoe family. The wrapping party is today after school in the cafeteria. Please come help wrap. We appreciate you!

Guidance Department Presents the Tip of the Week . . . It is never too early to start thinking about final exam week, which starts December 13th. Remember to plan ahead & use ALL your resources!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Arapahoe Warrior Marching Band for two OUTSTANDING performances at the Denver Parade of Lights this past weekend!!!! The marching band performed music from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in front of thousands as they made their way down the parade route. In addition, the marching band competed against seven other high schools from around the metro area in marching, music, and lighting appearance and placed very high in all categories!!!
· Placed 3rd on Friday night in marching and music
· Placed 1st on Saturday night in lighting and overall presentation
· Placed 1st overall and took top marching band honors for this year’s parade!

Attention TSA . . . today is our next TSA business meeting after school in Room E10. Attendance at this meeting is expected! We will be passing out paper work regarding the TSA State conference! A graphic design competition will be presented and will help prepare you for the variety of contests regarding promotional graphics. Remember your dues if you haven’t paid them already….time is getting short to affiliate with the TSA National office.

Here’s an important reminder to new members of National Honor Society: Our induction ceremony is tonight at 7:00! Our mandatory dress rehearsal is after school at 2:30 in the theater, and it will last approximately an hour. Then you will need to be back in the theater between 6:30 and 6:45 for this important event.

Congratulations to the Freshman and Sophomore wrestlers. The Warriors won the Rangeview Raider Invitational and had three individual champions.

Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling team. The Varsity won second place on Saturday and had four finalists, with two champions. Tournament champions were Isaac Prudhomme and Michael Thompson.

Student Insurance coverage is available to all High School students thru K12 Accident and Health. Enrolling is easy and the premium is very inexpensive. We truly appreciate all of your contributions and so will the kids at Alice Terry Elementary the Denver Indian Center. We still need about 780 toys in the next 3 days, so show us your Warrior spirit and bring those toys in. You make it happen!

HO! HO! HO! AHS Toys for Tots has a goal of 1,000 toys for Alice Terry Elementary and the Denver Indian Center. For many of these children, this may be the only holiday gift they receive. We now have about 100 toys in the building. We need 900 more toys to meet our goal. We only have 4 more school days to bring them in. Watch for sales – the best way to shop, and start bringing your toys in tomorrow. You make it happen!

Just a reminder to students that checked out books from the library before Thanksgiving break, most of those books are due back. Avoid those book fines and get your books back to the library! Thanks.

Receiving excellent ribbons were Peter Galloway in U. S. Extemporaneous Speaking, Sage Scala in Poetry Interpretation, Kati Ansay and Kelsey Common in Public Forum Debate.

Receiving superior ribbons were Austin Davis in Poetry Interpretation, along with Lizzie Stephani and Sanjay Patil in Public Forum Debate.

General Announcements:

Students – I have always spoken with you openly so I want to share some important news with you. Yesterday, after school we held a full faculty/staff meeting at which time I announced my retirement from Arapahoe High School, effective the end of this school year. I will help with the transition to find a replacement for me next semester. I will continue to be your Principal throughout the rest of the school year but when the class of 2012 graduates I will leave too.
As you know, each of you is very important to me. I am so very proud of all our Warriors. Retiring is a difficult decision but we will have time to say goodbye later second semester. I knew you would want to hear this information personally from me.
Have a strong ending to this semester as you prepare for final exams and enjoy your holiday. Thank you. Have a terrific day.

YOU BETTER WATCH OUT, YOU BETTER NOT CRY, YOU BETTER NOT POUT, I’M TELLING YOU WHY…SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN. Yes…Santa is coming to bring a new toy for each boy and girl at Alice Terry Elementary and the Denver Indian Health and Family Services Center. Today is the kickoff for the AHS Toys for Tots. Help us make a child’s dream come true. Join us by bringing a NEW toy to the Attendance Office. Our goal is 1000 toys. We know Arapahoe can make it happen! Let’s make this a special holiday for the kids.

Auditions for the winter play Charley’s Aunt are today after school in the choir room. If you have not picked up your information packet yet from the theatre hallway, please do so. Sign up sheets for both auditions and technical crew positions are also in the theatre hallway. See Mr. Ahern if you have any questions.

Congratulations to the following students for their performances in this past Saturday’s Cherry Creek Classic Speech and Debate Tournament:

Peter Galloway earned a 4th place trophy in Int’l Extemporaneous Speaking.
Ben Chishold took home a 6th place trophy for his efforts in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.
Aaron Avery earned a superior ribbon for Poetry Interpretation.
Also earning a superior ribbon was the team of Nikki Latala and Lizzie Stephani in Public Forum Debate.

Today is Veterans’ Day and we are honored to have guest speakers in the Forum every hour who will share their stories of serving our country in the Armed Forces. Their experiences vary, but they share a common thread of bravery and commitment to freedom and the people of the United States. On this day of remembrance, we would also like to honor the nurses, doctors and medics who devoted themselves to saving the lives of wounded soldiers, and making the deaths of others less painful. You are welcome to come to the Forum during any of your unscheduled hours today.

Would you like to send a service member a holiday card to let them know they are being thought of? Then please drop a signed card into the collection box for Holiday Mail for Heroes at the cafeteria or in the library. Cards must be signed and contain no addresses or personal information. The cards can be commercial or handmade. Cards are sent to random service members and cannot be delivered to specific individuals. Cards do not need envelopes as envelopes will be removed prior to shipment. Collections will continue through Nov. 11. Thank you for considering those who are serving the nation this season.

The Business Department is offering the BT1 Proficiency Exam today from 2:30-3:00 or 3:15 – 3:45 in Room S2. If you are a strong typist and can pass this exam you can enroll directly in Advanced Business Technology 2 for your graduation requirement. Stop by the Business Dept. if you have any questions.

Friday, November 11, is Veterans Day. Please stop by the Military Heritage Board by the Security Office and see all our Arapahoe friends and relatives who have or are currently serving in our Armed Forces. During WWII, nearly 3 million teenage boys and girls went to work for the US defense. They deferred their educations to make victory possible, working long hours each day in dangerous places such as shipyards and airplane fuselage plants. Please remember their contributions this Veterans Day.

General Announcements:

This coming Friday, November 11, is Veterans’ Day. In honor of the men and women who served and are currently serving in the US Armed Forces, Arapahoe will be recognizing their commitment and bravery for the next five days. Please stop by the Military Wall of Honor and add the names of your family members who have served in the armed forces on the Military Heritage board designed by the Art Department and located by the Security Office in the cafeteria this week. If you have time on Friday, come to the Forum and listen to veterans speak about their experiences.

Would you like to send a service member a holiday card to let them know they are being thought of? Then please drop a signed card into the collection box for Holiday Mail for Heroes at the cafeteria or in the library. Cards must be signed and contain no addresses or personal information. The cards can be commercial or handmade. Cards are sent to random service members and cannot be delivered to specific individuals. Cards do not need envelops as envelopes will be removed prior to shipment. Collections will continue through Nov. 11. Thank you for considering those who are serving the nation this season.

Attention Speech and Debate Team Members: Everyone planning to compete in the Cherry Creek and Mullen tournaments should plan to attend Tuesday's meeting after school in C15 at 2:30. In addition to this, students entered in debate or student congress will meet after school today in C15.

Reminder . . . TSA club will meet after school today in room E10.

If you are a strong typist and can pass this exam you can enroll directly in Advanced Business Technology 2 for your graduation requirement. Stop by the Business Dept. if you have any questions.

Late Winter Sports Registration will take place in the Cafeteria beginning today thru Thursday, November 10th. Registration will be accepted each morning from 7:00 a.m. – 7:21 a.m. and then again in the afternoon from 2:16 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Please stop by the Athletic Office and pick up your registration paperwork today. Paperwork MUST be on file in the Athletic Office prior to the first day of practice on Friday, November 11th!


Hey girls… Are you interested in shooting, scoring, dribbling, and winning for the AHS Women’s Basketball Program this winter? Tryouts for the team are being held for the Varsity and JV teams from 2:30-5 and for the freshmen and sophomore team from 5-7 in the Arapahoe gym all this week. Please make sure you are registered to play by submitting your registration information to Ms. Weems in the athletic office by Friday. If you have questions about tryouts or times, please see Ms. Korn in the Math office or Ms. Hancock in the Language Arts office. A big thank you to everyone for making the Broncos Food Drive a huge success. We filled 340 boxes! We'll let you know as soon as we find out who won the competition. We're proud of all of you. Good work Warriors.

Here’s some important info for you about National Honor Society: Our monthly meeting for current members is today after school in the forum. This meeting will be a very quick check-in about volunteer opportunities and what’s going on in NHS. This meeting is only for current members, so please do not attend if you are applying for membership right now. For students who have submitted their NHS applications, letters were mailed out to home addresses on Monday, so you should be finding out about your membership status very soon. If you are accepted for membership, please take the required actions to RSVP for the induction ceremony as soon as possible.

This trip is an amazing opportunity to experience Washington D.C. and participate with kids from around the nation in examining issues. This is NOT your 8th grade trip, which was fun, but was primarily tourism. For those interested in this trip please attend an informational meeting today at 2:30 in Room C8. If you are unable to attend the meeting please see Mr. Hawthorne or Mr. Meyer in the Social Studies department during any off hour today. There is also a parent meeting for those interested on Thursday in Room N2 at 6:00 p.m.

Earning ribbons for excellence were Sage Scala in Poetry Interpretation, Ben Chisholm in Extemporaneous Speaking, and the team of Nikki Latala and Nathan Ducey in Public Forum Debate.

Students as many of you know it is Halloween on Monday. You are welcome to dress-up for the holiday, but please make sure your costume is dress code appropriate. Remember you cannot wear masks or have your face covered. Also, no weapons or facsimiles of weapons. Students will be asked to change if attire is deemed inappropriate or too distracting to the academic environment.

Hey Warriors! Tonight is the night you've all been waiting for...The annual DECA Dodgeball Tournament. The opening ceremony will start at 6 p.m. in the Main Gym. Come out and cheer on your favorite movie teams as they compete for the coveted title of Dodgeball Champion.

If you are playing on a dodgeball team remember that you are required to attend a rules meeting. The final meeting will be held in the Forum today at 2:30. Students who do not attend one of the meetings will not be allowed to play.

Warriors, this is the last week of the Bronco Food Drive. We still need cans and non-perishable food. Let’s fill those boxes in the classrooms and help Tackle Hunger! Let’s finish strong!

Attention juniors and seniors! Anyone interested in taking concurrent enrollment classes through Arapahoe Community College should attend a short meeting on Thursday, October 27th in the Forum during lunch. This program allows students to take college-level classes while still in high school and receive both high school and college credit. Registration forms will be available at that time.

Sophomores, the PLAN, a practice ACT test, is being offered this Saturday, October 29th. Today is the LAST day to register! Don’t forget to come to the Guidance Office and sign up! The cost is $10.

Congratulations to Nikki Latala and Lizzie Stephanie for their second place finish in Public Forum Debate at this past Saturday’s Kent Denver Novice Speech and Debate meet. Congratulations also goes to Angie Mock for earning a superior rating in Lincoln-Douglas debate

There will be a “working” TSA meeting tonight after school in E10. We will be signing up for competitions and printing the rules. If you are interested in TSA and haven’t received paperwork, come tonight to get it. If you are interested in attending the TSA Leadership conference in December, paperwork will be handed out tonight for this.

Attention Dodgeball Players! If you are playing on a dodgeball team remember that you are required to attend a rules meeting. The meetings will be held in the Forum today at 2:30, tomorrow at 5:30, and Wednesday, October 26 at 2:30. Students who do not attend one of the meetings will not be allowed to play.

Come down to the library and guess how many Halloween candies are in the glass pumpkin! The student whose comes the closest to the actual amount …. will win the jar full of candy! The winner will be announced Monday, Oct. 31st during the daily announcements. Happy Halloween from your AHS Library Staff!

Hey seniors! In an effort to prevent mistakes in the yearbook, we would like you to come to the yearbook room to make sure that your senior photos and biographies are correct. Please come to the hallway outside of E-8 from October 24th to October 28th to check for any possible corrections!

$1,000 could be yours! Have you served our community by volunteering your time? If so, you could be entered to win $1,000 and a trip to Washington D.C. Stop by the guidance department and visit your counselor to find out how to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Be sure to hurry! The deadline is November 1st.

The Guidance Center and Athletic Office will be hosting a NCAA/NAIA Compliance Orientation for all interested seniors and juniors in the AHS Forum tomorrow during 1st and 2nd lunches. Please sign up for this orientation on one of the sheets posted in the Guidance Center or the Athletic Office.

Athletics:

Congratulations to both cross country teams for their Regional wins on Friday. The girls defeated second place Columbine by an impressive 58 points, and the boys defeated Smoky Hill by 30 points. Great job Regional Cross Country Champions and good luck at State this Saturday.

Thanks to all of the chemistry students who made Mole Day a HUGE success. Hundreds of students arrived by 6:02 a.m. this morning to compete or cheer on their class teams in a MOLE-titude of events. Congratulations to the Grand Mole Champion Class - Mr. Hatak's 6th hour AP Chemistry Class

If you are applying for membership to National Honor Society, remember that application packets are due today, no exceptions. Make sure you turn in all four pages of the application, along with a $15 check for your application fee, to Mrs. Kazakoff in the guidance office by 3:00 p.m. today. Thanks!

It’s the third week of the Broncos Tackle Hunger Food Drive and we need every Warrior to help! We only have this week and next week to collect our goal of 500 boxes of food. Bring in your cans and non-perishable food items! We need them now! There are collection boxes in each of the classrooms. You CAN make a difference in the lives of people who need food!!

Hey chemistry students, don’t forget that tomorrow is Mole Day. Be in the main gym by 5:55 a.m. to make sure you don’t miss an EXPLOSIVE kickoff to the class competitions that you WILL NOT WANT TO MISS.

Now until October 28th you will receive a.50 credit off your fine balance for every non perishable food donation you bring in to the library. To ensure that you receive credit toward your fine personally hand your donation to any of the library staff. Help yourself while you help others.

The Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard will be performing in their State Quarter Finals competition at 12:15 PM on Friday, October 21 at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Colorado State University. This performance will qualify us to perform on Saturday, October 22 in semi-finals and finals competition!!! For more information about the State Championship schedules and ticket information, please visit the Colorado Bandmasters Association website at www.coloradobandmasters.org. We would love to see everyone there to cheer us on -- good luck and GO WARRIOR BAND!!!
