Tonight is the Free Annual Holiday Band Concert in the theatre! Pre-concert ensembles will start performing at 5:50 pm, followed by the main concert at 6:30 pm. We will feature, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and the England Wind Symphony. We will be previewing our upcoming England Concert Tour performing group at the close of the concert. This will be the exact same program that we will perform in London's Central Westminster Hall and at St. John's in Smith's Square! Also, don't miss senior clarinetist, Nicole Jensen, performing her Weber concerto with the Wind Ensemble. And of course, the famous "Sleigh Ride" will be performed by our Wind Ensemble, as well!

Michael Hewitt won “Best Male Performer” award, Whitney Semin won “Best Individual Vocal” award, Katie Orlandini won “Best Scenic Design” Award. Laine Greaves Smith received “Superior Ratings” for Lighting and won the “Tech Olympics”. All Arapahoe Seniors who auditioned for college scholarships received callbacks and many were offered scholarships Again thank you for your support of the arts.

Way to go Warriors! The Wrapping Party was a huge success. More than 100 students came to help wrap nearly 700 toys in just 55 minutes! Thank you to all who are participated. You are incredible!
Congratulations to our Knowledge Master Open Team! Their efforts earned Arapahoe 6th place out of 19 Colorado High Schools. Please recognize Laura Brennan, Ben Horblit, Jon Karr and Alyse White.
Drama club would like to thank students, staff, and administration for their support. We attended the Colorado State Thespian Conference over the weekend. We just received word yesterday that our Warrior Marching Band did place 1st overall in the 2008 Parade of Lights! Arapahoe placed 2nd in Saturday’s Lighting/Decorating competition, putting them in 1st place overall!! Congrats Warrior Band!!!

There will be a Special Olympic basketball practice Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the AHS main gym. Also, Avalon Photography will be coming and taking pictures so all partners and players need to wear their uniforms that night.

HO! HO! HO! Thank you Warriors! We have collected 1300 toys – 300 more than our goal – and we are still counting. This is so exciting and it will make so many children happy. Thank you for all you do in caring for others.
The Wrapping Party is TODAY right after school in the cafeteria. Come help wrap toys for Barrett Elementary.
Congratulations to all members of the Warrior Marching Band for placing first in Friday's Music and Marching Performance Competition at the Downtown Denver Parade of Lights! The band won a cash prize of $500 at Friday's Parade, which was broadcast live on Channel 9!! Way to go Warrior Marching Band!!!
Congratulations to Junior Jazz Drummer, Kevin Matthews, for being selected to the 2009 All State Jazz Band! Kevin was evaluated to be the best large schools jazz drummer for Colorado!! This is the first time ever that Arapahoe has had a jazz drummer selected to this prestigious position. Also, congratulations to sophomore bassist, Andrew Ryan, for being selected as the All State Jazz Band alternate bass player!

Spanish club is sponsoring a scavenger hunt that starts today! It can be completed at any time and come to the world language off for a list of clues. Follow the clues for an exciting adventure and when complete turn your scavenger hunt form to Ms. DiSepio no later than Thursday December 11th. Your name will then be included in a raffle for the grand prize of a Chipotle gift card and the winner will be announced on Friday! Prizes are also available for those who finish the scavenger hunt first and second. Gracias!

Hey all you starving artists, time is running out to submit to the MUSE. If you’re interested in submitting, keep an eye out for the blue cups in every C classroom. They have information on how to get published. So if you have any poems, stories or artwork you want recognized, submit before winter break!

Congratulations to our Warrior Cheers and Toms! Friday night they competed at the 2008 CHSAA State Spirit Competition. In the 5A Pom Division, the Toms competed against 34 other teams, and did an outstanding job. They were one of only 6 teams to make the finals, and ended up 6th in the State!
Out of a field of 42 in the 5A Cheer Division, the Arapahoe Cheers, also one of only 6 teams to make the finals, did an outstanding job, and ended up the Runner-Up State Champions by only one eighth of a point! It was an exciting night at the Denver Coliseum, and the Cheers and Toms would like to say a HUGE thank you to the many students who came out to cheer them on. You were definitely an inspiration to the teams. Thank you for your support!!!!!! You can watch both the Cheers and Toms State routines on 9news.com. Congratulations again to the Warrior Cheers and Toms on a great State and competitive season! We are proud of you!

HO! HO! HO! We are so close to our goal of 1000 toys and more toys keep arriving. Way to go Warriors! We truly appreciate all of your contributions and so will the kids at Barrett Elementary and the Denver Indian Family Services Center. You may still bring toys to the Attendance Office next week.
The Wrapping Party will be held Monday, Dec 8 right after school in the cafeteria. Please come help wrap and get the toys ready for delivery. Last year we wrapped 600 toys in 45 minutes. We are counting on you. See you Monday.
Congratulations to our talented mathematicians! Thirteen students earned a high score on the First Round of the University of Northern Colorado Math Competition and are invited to participate in the Final Round on the Greeley Campus in January. Please recognize the following students for their superior efforts: Freshman – Bridget Louis, Sophomore – Jasmine Griffin, Juniors – Laine Greaves-Smith, Brian Guymon, Natalie Jones, Tom Roberts, Kyle Stachowiak, Seniors – Ryan Beckett, Kevin Fiorini, Thomas Newbold, Matt Schmidt, Patrick Wyman and Spencer Zepelin.

The girls swim and dive team won against Smoky Hill last night 104-82. The team was lead by Meg Perron, Devon Smith, and Morgan Turley, who all qualified for state, along with divers Beth Ambrozic and Dani Howe who also qualified for state. Come support the girls tomorrow at Arapahoe Relays at noon at the Arapahoe pool.

Way to go Warriors! We are close to our goal of 1000 toys. The toy box was overflowing this morning with basketballs and other fun toys. We still need about 200 toys and we have 1 more day to collect. Show us your Warrior spirit and bring those toys.

If you pass this exam you can enroll directly in Advanced Business Technology 2 for your graduation requirement. Stop by the Business Dept. if you have any questions.

The varsity boys and girls basketball teams will take on the Eagles of Heritage in a cross-town rival game today at Metro State College. The girls will play at 5:30pm followed by the boys at 7:00pm. Tickets will be available today during both lunches. Pre-sell prices are $5 for students and $7 for adults. No Arapahoe student SBA I.D. cards will be accepted. Everyone will need to purchase a ticket for these games. Purchase your tickets before you head down to the games – tickets prices are $6 for students and $8 for adults at the door. Go Warriors!

Sit back and enjoy the beautiful piano solo from Pride and Prejudice or revel in the excitement of selections from The Chronicles of Narnia. That’s tonight at 7:00 in the AHS theatre.

HO! HO! HO! AHS Toys for Tots has a goal of 1000 toys for Barrett Elementary and the Denver Indian Health and Family Center. We now have about 80 toys in the building. We need 920 more toys to meet our goal. We only have 7 more school days to bring them in. Help make a happy holiday for some less fortunate children. You make it happen!
Attention all students -- You will receive your 2nd Semester Schedules in your 3rd hour class today. Please see Mrs. Oeinck in the Guidance Center if you do not have a 3rd hour class today. Schedule Adjustments can be made for academic misplacement by appointment only with your counselor during your unscheduled hours. The Schedule Adjustment Period will run from December 2-4th and December 8-11th.

Tonight, starting at 7pm in the theatre, will be concerto performances by 9 of our finest band musicians! A panel of Colorado Symphony musicians will judge the 9 finalists, and the top 3 soloists will be awarded cash prizes, medals, and trophies at the end of the concert. A special performance of the Mower Flute Concerto as performed by Dr. Claudia Anderson from the Waterloo Symphony, will take place while the scores are being tabulated. You’re all invited to attend - the $5 tickets are available from the Band Office or at the door tonight.

The Fall AHS First Ever Student / Teacher Chess Tournament was a tremendous success and a great time was had by all! Congratulations to our winning chess players: 4th place – Alex Bishop, 3rd place – Parker Hoggan, 2nd place – Spencer Zepelin, and 1st place – Ryan Beckett. Thank you to all 36 participants. In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, we would like to recognize those Americans who sustained injuries or died in the defense of our nation. We would also like to honor the nurses, doctors and medics who devoted themselves to saving the lives of wounded soldiers, and making the deaths of others less painful. Please remember their contributions this Veteran’s Day week. Thanks.
In honor of our Veterans, Arapahoe TSA club will be collecting dollar donations at lunch today. All money collected will go directly to a local Veterans organization. Please help TSA by donating $1 and receive an American flag sticker.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, we would like to recognize those people who made and make soldiers’ jobs possible. During WWII, nearly 3 million teenage boys and girls went to work for US defense. They deferred their educations to make victory possible, working long hours each day in dangerous places such as shipyards and airplane fuselage plants. Please remember their contributions this Veterans’ Day week. Thanks.
In honor of our Veterans, Arapahoe TSA club will be collecting dollar donations at lunch through Thursday, to benefit our veterans. All money collected will go directly to a local Veterans organization. Please help TSA by donating $1 and receive an American flag sticker.

Tomorrow begins the first official day of CHSAA Winter Sports practice and you must be registered and have your pink card before you can practice tomorrow. The Third Annual Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition will take place in the theatre on Monday, November 17, 2008, beginning at 7 p.m. The following students are finalists and will be performing on November 17th: Vikky DeLaTorre (junior horn player); Jordan Flatt (senior clarinetist); Emily Haller (junior flute player); Emily Haskins (sophomore flute player); Nicole Jensen (senior clarinetist); Maureen Kosse (senior horn player); Wes Leffingwell (senior pianist); Kevin Matthews (junior marimba player); and Madison Munn (junior clarinetist).
The Arapahoe High School Wind Ensemble will culminate the evening by accompanying professional flute player, Claudia Anderson, on the Mike Mower “Flute Concerto.” Dr. Anderson is the flute professor at Grinnell College. In addition, Dr. Anderson is the principal flute of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony.
The judges for the 2008 Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition are a panel of 3 Colorado Symphony Musicians. Tickets for the Concerto Competition are just $5 and can be purchased from any of the finalists. They are also available in the Band Office at this time, and at the door, on the evening of Monday, November 17th.
Please check the Lost and Found table in the Cafeteria for any items you are missing, and the Attendance office for any small valuables.

Congratulations to the Arapahoe High School Cheers and Toms for their outstanding performances last night at the Centennial League Spirit Championships held at Eaglecrest High School. The JV Cheers finished in 3rd place in the JV division. The Toms placed second in the highly competitive Varsity Pom division, and the Varsity Cheers captured the 2008 Centennial League Championship in the Varsity Cheer division. In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11th, the Social Studies Department has invited veterans to come speak to Arapahoe students. These veterans are speaking all day long in the Forum, so if you would like to hear their stories or ask them any questions, please stop by the Forum during any of your unscheduled hours this coming Tuesday. Salsa Night at the Rio Mexican Restaurant is this Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 7:30pm. Come join famous salsa dancers like fellow students Jordan Hunt, Justin Miller, Tyler St. Pierre and John Moore. The Third Annual Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition will take place in the theatre on Monday, November 17, 2008, beginning at 7 p.m. The following students are finalists and will be performing on November 17th: Vikky DeLaTorre (junior horn player); Jordan Flatt (senior clarinetist); Emily Haller (junior flute player); Emily Haskins (sophomore flute player); Nicole Jensen (senior clarinetist); Maureen Kosse (senior horn player); Wes Leffingwell (senior pianist); Kevin Matthews (junior marimba player); and Madison Munn (junior clarinetist).
The Arapahoe High School Wind Ensemble will culminate the evening by accompanying professional flute player, Claudia Anderson, on the Mike Mower “Flute Concerto.” Dr. Anderson is the flute professor at Grinnell College. In addition, Dr. Anderson is the principal flute of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony.
The judges for the 2008 Arapahoe High School Band Concerto Competition are a panel of 3 Colorado Symphony Musicians. Tickets for the Concerto Competition are just $5 and can be purchased from any of the finalists. They are also available in the Band Office at this time, and at the door, on the evening of Monday, November 17th.

Congratulations to the Arapahoe High School Cheers and Toms for their outstanding performances last night at the Centennial League Spirit Championships held at Eaglecrest High School. The JV Cheers finished in 3rd place in the JV division. The Toms placed second in the highly competitive Varsity Pom division, and the Varsity Cheers captured the 2008 Centennial League Championship in the Varsity Cheer division. General Announcements
Even though the real election results have already been announced, we know that you are anxiously awaiting the more important results – those of the AHS Mock Election.
With about 100% of the ballots counted:
For the US House, Coffman defeated Eng 58% to 42%.
For the Senate, Shaffer defeated Udall 49% to 43%.
For the Presidency, McKinney received 1%, Nader has received 2.6% of our votes, McCain has 46%, and Obama has 47.2%.
None of the ballot measures passed at AHS. The only one that was close was Amendment 51 which would have given some additional tax money to programs for people with disabilities. Most of the ballot measure s received less than 40% of our vote.
Thanks for participating. And remember that the election isn’t the end of the game, it is only the beginning.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected to the 2009 Colorado All State Choir: Annika Erickson-Pearson, Brittani Farrell, Kevin Fiorini, Anna Hardcastle, Michael Hewitt and John Moore. They were selected from over 200 auditioners state-wide.

Congratulations to the Speech and Debate team who competed in Saturday’s Douglas County Invitational Tournament. Liana Boraas took first place in Dramatic interpretation, Amanda Noel took second place in Dramatic interpretation, and Lauren Haefliger took first place in poetic interpretation.

We will leave AHS at 3:00 p.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. It is first come, first served, so get your permission slips and cold, hard cash into Mr. Hawthorne in the Social Studies Department ASAP! Permission slips are due November 4th.

Congratulations to the Freshman Football team for their 33-13 victory over Rampart on Saturday. The victory moved the team’s season record to 7 wins and 3 Losses. Great season, men! Remember equipment check-in is today immediately after the team meeting in the forum.
All girls interested in basketball are welcome to attend Coach Burgin’s preseason camp for grades 9 through 12. The camp starts November 3rd and runs through November 11th. Juniors and Seniors will participate from 2:30 to 5:00 pm, Freshman and Sophomores from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Both camps will be held in the Main Gym.

Tomorrow morning at 9 AM come watch your Freshman Warrior Football Team battle the Freshmen from Rampart High School. The game will be played right here at the Arapahoe High School field. Link Crew is planning an after school field trip for leaders and freshmen to go to JumpStreet – an indoor trampoline park – on Thursday, November 6th. Cost is $12.00 and includes admission to the park, snack and transportation. We will leave AHS at 3:00 p.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. It is first come, first served, so get your permission slips and cold, hard cash into Mr. Hawthorne in the Social Studies Department ASAP! Permission slips are due November 4th.

Congratulations to the varsity football team for their exciting win over Smoky Hill on Friday night. They will host Rampart in a post-season game this Friday night, October 31st at 7:00 pm at LPSS. The Freshman team will play Rampart here at Arapahoe on Saturday morning, November 1st at 9:00 am. Go Warriors!
All girls interested in basketball are welcome to attend Coach Burgin’s preseason camp for grades 9 through 12. The camp starts November 3rd and runs through November 11th. Congratulations to all members of the Warrior Marching Band for placing third in the state at Invesco Field on Saturday night! Arapahoe received bronze medals for their outstanding performance. The Warrior Band's Finals Score of 80.40 was just 2.35 points away from 1st place! Arapahoe placed 1st in the Visual - General Effect caption, thanks to our superior color guard!!! The Warrior Band has now placed no lower than 3rd at any state championship competition for the 4th year in a row!!!! The band would like to thank all the students, parents and administration for their support throughout the 2008 competitive season.

Congratulations to the Freshman football team for their 21-14 win Saturday over Smoky Hill. The win pushes the team’s record to 6 and 3. The Freshman team will play its last game of the season here at AHS on Saturday at 9:00 AM. They will be trying to extend a 3 year freshman home winning streak. See you all there.
Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team as they advanced through districts on Saturday. They swept their pool and cross over match beating Fountain, Ponderosa, and Fruita in three games each. In the championship match, they lost a tough game against Grandview, but advance to regionals this Saturday. They are now one of the final 16 teams remaining in the state and play at Mountain Vista on Saturday. Great job, and good luck!

The Warrior Band's Finals Score of 80.40 was just 2.35 points away from 1st place! Arapahoe placed 1st in the Visual - General Effect caption, thanks to our superior color guard!!! The Warrior Band has now placed no lower than 3rd at any state championship competition for the 4th year in a row!!!! The band would like to thank all the students, parents and administration for their support throughout the 2008 competitive season.

Congratulations to the Freshman football team for their 21-14 win Saturday over Smoky Hill. The win pushes the team’s record to 6 and 3. The Freshman team will play its last game of the season here at AHS on Saturday at 9:00 AM. They will be trying to extend a 3 year freshman home winning streak. See you all there.
Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team as they advanced through districts on Saturday. They swept their pool and cross over match beating Fountain, Ponderosa, and Fruita in three games each. In the championship match, they lost a tough game against Grandview, but advance to regionals this Saturday. They are now one of the final 16 teams remaining in the state and play at Mountain Vista on Saturday. Great job, and good luck!

The boys’ soccer team advanced to the second round of state soccer playoffs, and will play Bear Creek here at Arapahoe today at 4:00 pm. Admission prices will be $5 for adults and $4 for all students K-12 as well as Senior Citizens. No SBA passes will be accepted at this game. GO WARRIORS!!!!

The Warrior Marching Band also placed first with their Drum Majors, Percussion and Color Guard!!! The band would like to invite all of you to cheer them on at their State Championships on Saturday.
